I think they were very good and professional. We were very happy with the end product because it has not given us any trouble. The work was done right to spec and quality but they were slow. We had an issue with that so it took longer than we were expecting.

The skill and quality of work by Myx and Hector is outstanding - they clearly know the craft of plastering and how to repair and restore original plaster work. Their work was far better than we had hoped in a day and age when other contractors would have removed entire sections of the original walls & ceilings and installed drywall rather than attempt a restoration using classical plaster and lathe techniques.
The work involved repairing and restoring water damaged ceilings and walls in our entry foyer, and living room where a roof and gutter leak had caused the surface of the plaster to separate from the base layer. In some places, there were deep cracks (from earthquake) which were stabilized prior to applications of materials to resurface and restore the plaster. Crumbling coved ceiling mouldings that could not be replicated in modern materials were carefully sealed and resurfaced.  We also added repairs to a large section of wall and ceiling in the master bedroom to the original work order that we thought would be beyond our budget to have repaired. But on talking with them further, realized that it could be done efficiently while the crew was already there for the other rooms. The total cost was very reasonable. 
From initial phone call to obtain an estimate to completion of work, our experience was pleasant and professional. They were most respectful of our concerns about scheduling around the needs of our elderly father. They took care about protecting furniture and belongings with tarps and isolating the work areas. They cleaned up everything at the end of each work day. 

Boyd was one of two companies I contacted. The other firm came several days later, but submitted their estimate more quickly than Boyd. It was also a lower estimate, and included several options for the work, and a separate estimate for painting the ceiling after repair, which Boyd included only after they sent the first estimate and I asked them so I could compare the two. The ceiling was done (by the other company) about 6 weeks ago and this week, I got an email from Boyd asking if I was still interested in having the work done. Based on my neighbors' recommendations and the Angie's reviews, I am pretty sure they would have done a good job, but their follow-through at the beginning discouraged me.

Boyd's was recommended by real-estate professional as long-standing company well known for both large and small jobs.  50+ year old ceilings had sagged after earlier flooring and storage in attic caused downward pressure.  Master plasterer himself, 25+years w/ company, appeared for the estimate, then set appointment 2 months later to accommodate my travel.  He appeared promptly arranged date w/ helper, proceeded to finish main job in 3 days, followed in 1 wk. for touchup of dried plaster.  Work was paint-ready, and finished beautifully by later contractor.  Cleanup was immaculate.

Every thing went as planned. The workman show up on time. He work quietly and completed the task in  a timely fashion.

Because of Doug and his responsiveness, the sale of this townhome went through as planned and for well-under the sight-unseen estimate (which was, admittedly, high). I would recommend DL Boyd to anyone.

The price was reasonable and I would refer them to others. They were punctual, prompt and everything was beautiful when they were done; it is hard to find people today who know how to plaster. I will use them again in the future.

D L Boyd removed water-stained plaster and re-plastered a portion of our vaulted living room ceiling that had been damaged by a roof leak.  The work included a curved portion of the ceiling, making it unusually difficult.  The workman did an excellent job, beautifully blending the new plaster into the existing plaster so that the repair is invisible.  He protected the rest of the room and the furniture from any plaster dust and spills, and made sure that all was perfectly clean before he left.  We've used this company for plaster repair previously (on our dining room wall), with similarly outstanding results, and we'll call on it again if we need plastering done.

They are in such high demand that it takes a while for them to get to you. Also, their work is weather dependent and that caused a couple of delays. Their work was outstanding. The exterior of my home is not a true stucco, but what is called "ELFS." We bought the home as a short sale and the damage was to the wall by the garage. They were able to repair it to like new condition. They are expensive, but the quality of their work in undeniable.

It was a decent quote.  It wasn't the highest quote, and it was in the middle.  It was reasonable.  They were very professional.  They sent out an estimator, and he seemed to be very professional.  I had to call them back.  I didn't have any problem with them.  They were on time.  They did what they said they were going to do.

Went well. We were told up front in April that it wouldn't be until July that they could get to our job because they were backlogged from the previous season, but they were able to do the work in June. The wait was well worth the final result.

The worker was very efficient, knew what he was doing, explained it well to me, and answered all my questions. I had removed all of the paint and wallpaper on the three living room walls, which exposed lots of nail holes and other defects. He filled the holes, skim coated where necessary (which was most everywhere), and sanded. Upstairs on a bedroom ceiling that was sagging because the plaster had detached from the lath, he removed the plaster where it was detached or loose, leaving two sections each about 2-feet-square that were bare to the lath. He then used metal lath and plaster to repair those sections. The work took two full days, and at the end of each day, he left my floors cleaner than they had been when he arrived. 

They were excellent; prompt, very professional, clean and did an exceptional job. They patched about a 4 foot square section of plaster and the patch blends perectly with the rest of the wall.

The quote was reasonable for the work that has to be done. The estimator had years of experience and was very professional. He was an older man and was very wise. He had worked for the company for 40 years. He did not try to suggest something just to make money for the company. He was honest and had integrity. He responded right away. I think I am going to use them.

Friendly and precise estimator. Quality pretty good. One worker worked diligently, and the other was on the phone a lot and somewhat bossy with the other worker. He didn't put switchplates back on, and when he mixed the plaster he dripped it on my sidewalk and porch.

They were amazing. I have a historic home that?s old stucco with a couple of different kinds of stucco. They matched it perfectly and they did a spectacular job. I can?t imagine a stucco repair place doing anything better. I would use them again and again and recommend them to friends. They were very communicative, they were on time, they communicated in a timely manner, the staff was friendly, they all spoke English, and they definitely knew their craft. The price was pretty steep.

I can only comment on the process from my first contact, their estimating process, and quote. It took a while to get a response and a while to get someone to come out to work do a take-off and finalize a quote. That took too long. However, I think the estimator was thorough. The quote was not detailed enough for me: I had to ask a lot of questions to get an understanding of exactly what they were proposing to do--which was not completely what I was asking for. The people are professional and polite. Their pricing was 2 or 3 times a "fair price". One problem is that they are "overqualified".They do historic preservations and work with REAL stucco and I have synthetic stucco. Their workmen are more "craftsmen" and therefore they have to charge more for their labor. This is my opinion.

The worker was very professional and skilled. The porch was left very clean.

Both my boyfriend and I contacted D.L. Boyd, Inc. on separate occassions to schedule an estimate for stucco work. I used the on-line form. D.L. Boyd sent an automatic response and stated that some one would contact me soon to schedule an appointment. No one ever called. My boyfriend called directly to schedule an appointment. One hour before the scheduled appointment, someone from D.L. Boyd called to cancel. They said they would call to reschedule. No one ever called back. I refuse to hire a contractor that can't keep/make appointments.

They specialize in vintage buildings and I highly recommend them. They do exceptional work that is hard to find anywhere else. The initial estimate was for 350.00 but since they completed the job so quickly they only charged the minimum fee. They were on time and did a wonderful job with clean up.

I thought the plasterer did an excellent job. He allowed me to watch and explained what he was doing as he went along. He answered all of my questions and was extremely knowledgeable. I was fascinated to learn how the process worked. He was very patient with me.

The job was completed very well and they price they gave us was a good one considering the extensive damage to the stucco that was done and what they had to finally repair. The paint job they completed matched very nicely and we highly recommend their services.
