SMITHWRIGHT HOME IMPROVEMENT SERVICES, LLC
About us
Smithwright Home Improvement is a general contracting company providing a broad range of home improvement and home repair services in the Suburban Maryland area. I am a company of one and use subcontractors only when absolutely necessary. 99% of the work I take on is performed by me. Smithwright Home Improvement is licensed with the Maryland Home Improvement Commission since 2004 under license# 89597. I've done mostly flat-fee work under contract with the home owner. Small projects, or handyman related work, bills out at $80/hour with a 3 hour minimum. Angie's List customers receive a 10% discount off labor charges that invoice over $500.00. Discounts do not apply to materials cost which are in addition to labor charges. I do not add any additional costs to materials. You pay what I pay. My business, up to now, has grown strictly through referrals from satisfied customers. In the 20 years since I started this business, I have served hundreds of home owners in this area doing everything from simple drywall work to building large room additions and decks. I pride myself in delivering results that far exceed my customer's expectations. (Please note, the nature of my work can make it quite difficult to take phone calls during the day. The last thing I want is to offend anyone by not picking up or not returning phone calls. Please contact me via text at 410-707-5542 or email at [email protected] as well and I will try to respond to you within 24 to 36 hours. Thank you!).

I have other request and will definitely utlitize Mr. Smith again for my upcoming service needs.
Outstanding service!
"No excuses Mr. [Removed member name]. It's truly been a stressful and exhausting g season thus far but not an excuse for my lack of professionalism. I sincerely apologize and regret my part in causing your frustration"
Bill was very easy to work with. He came out to do the estimate and was on time (more about that visit later). He did not ask for any deposits, even though he had to purchase materials. He also does not mark up on materials.
We did have to reschedule the actual work due to last-minute schedule conflicts but he was very accommodating on the rescheduling.
He was here for two solid days for this work. Part of this time did entail purchasing what he needed. We were happy with the work that was done.
I do want to say that Bill gets MAJOR PROPS for agreeing to be a participant during his estimate visit for a training session with our new dog. She is a rescue, and has significant issues with protection of the house. She has bitten a few people and we are working now with a behaviorist. So it turns out that the behaviorist's first visit coincided with Bill's estimate visit. He agreed to help out. Our dog has made good progress, but on that first session she was pretty intimidating. I know he was unnerved, but he was a real trooper. We did board the dog for the two days Bill was working here.
There were two items we wanted Bill to do, but he was unable to complete: new light covers for the suspended ceiling in the basement, and a new range vent cover for the exterior of the house. Apparently standard sizes have changed :-( so he is off researching where he can find the right parts. Since we had the same issues when we tried to do these tasks ourselves, I would certainly not ding Bill for not completing these tasks.
As for price, I think he was competitive. We actually had called someone else from Angie's List first. They did not come out to give us an estimate but gave us a quote based on what I told them in a message. My husband thought that was too much, so I called Bill. His price was pretty much the same, but at least he came out to see the actual work needed.
