My elliptical was never repaired. This is a small husband and wife business. Chris is the repairman and his wife does the business portion and schedule appointments. Chris is personable and seems to know what he is doing but was not able to locate the screw needed to make the repair. The original visit was Jan 6, 2017 and paid $125.00 for the visit. The diagnosis was that I needed a replacement screw which needed be ordered by his wife. He said it wouldn't take long and he would drop by to install once the screw arrived. Received email with itemized invoice attached which listed $41 for part (screw), $15.99 shipping and $85 installation. Received email that my installation appointment is 1-30-17. Turns out it was the wrong screw. Chris stated they would put in a rush order for another screw. They never found the correct screw. Waited another 4 weeks for Chris to come out to try to find an on hand screw to fit my machine. Received a couple of emails stating they were "looking for an appointment time" for me. I finally gave up on 3-5-17 and told them never mind and to please refund me for the part. They agreed but we will see what happens. I think customer service is of low value for them and they apparently need help responding to customers in a timely fashion. Everything is a very slow process. I spent 2 months with them and no results.

Sadly, I seem to require a lot of service visits from a lot of different types of folks. My experience with Chris was so unusual in its professionalism that I'm prompted to write my first ever review. Scheduling was easy, done by email. He arrived early, and was very gracious about the fact that I arrived at my house 10 minutes late. He was extraordinarily knowlegeable, and focused the whole discussion on the "is it worth fixing?" question, which was the main issue. I was happy to pay $125 for an hour of his time.

Pricing on website was unclear; $115 fee for site visit is not applicable to any repairs performed in the future, it is just to come out, and is charged for each subsequent visit on top of the cost of parts. By the time I was done, I had paid as much as the treadmill cost just to have the rear roller replaced. Any parts ordered must be paid for in advance by check through the mail, after an estimate is emailed, causing unnecessary delays. I could have ordered the part on Amazon and have it come more quickly and used a credit card. Technician was friendly on initial visits, but when he had to return to investigate a problem, he would not even say hello to me at the door. I would recommend for a simple, straightforward repair that can be completed on the initial visit, but not for anything further.

They made me pay a service fee to come out. Then I nneded to pay about $400 for the parts needed. I found out that was double the cost of the parts. The technician told me he couldn't fix it. Then he left without letting me know. He left the parts with me without offering to return them for a refund. When I called to talk about the problem, the guy yelled at me and hung up on me. I am out $473.44 and no way to recoup it since I don't know how to return the parts I paid for. Beware. I have been robbed of nearly $500!
Description of Work: This company was to fix my Octane Elliptical. They made me pay a service fee to come out. Then I needed to pay about $400 for the parts needed. The technician came out, said he couldn't fix it and left me the parts which I found out he charged double the cost. So I am out $473.44 and no offer to return the parts. Needless to say the elliptical is not fixed and I have been robbed of nearly $500!

Response from Atlantic Fitness Repair
Hello, this is Atlantic Fitness Repair and we would like to take the opportunity to respond to this review. We deeply regret the outcome of this repair, and would like to take this chance to rectify the situation to the best of our abilities. This customer requested that we come out and diagnose her machine in order to complete needed repairs. We quoted the complete service fee beforehand (standard policy), and then came out and preformed the diagnostic. We found while on site that the customer needed parts to complete the repair, and an exact estimate was provided beforehand per standard policy. During this point of the repair and unknown to us at the time, the customer had contracted her personal trainer to come out and attempt to service the machine after our initial service visit to diagnose. This person was not a fitness equipment repair provider, and not authorized to service Octane Ellipticals. This person attempted to service the machine under his own diagnosis and was unsuccessful. The customer then contacted us to let us know she wanted to proceed with our estimate and go forward. The customer did not mention that she had her personal trainer attempt to service the machine since we had provided her with our estimate. We came out to complete repairs and install the parts ordered, and immediately found things off/wrong within the unit since our initial visit. The personal trainer had attempted to replace some wire harnesses, as well as work on the console and the tension motor. The way we became aware of this was by calling into the manufacturer while on site, and discovering that the personal trainer had ordered parts and tried to install them, and had since returned them to Octane. Upon discovering this, the tech on site discussed this with the customer and went over with her in detail that having a non-authorized person attempt to service the unit after our initial diagnostic had now changed/added what was needed for repair. Components that weren't damaged or in need of repair prior to the trainer's attempt were now in need of further diagnostics and repair. The customer was very upset by this, and in an effort to work with her we did NOT charge her for the installation service call as a courtesy ($105.00 discount). We did inform the customer that a new diagnostic was needed to locate the now new electrical short caused by the non-authorized service persons attempt at service, at which time the customer declined to proceed. We regret deeply that this customers repair has taken this turn of events, and to further complicate matters - the customer was indeed inadvertently overcharged for parts by us. During the time this customer's repair was active, we were in the process of moving our headquarter offices and we were using temporary help for some of the office duties. The person who prepared her estimate was unfamiliar with the differences between the various manufacturers wholesale/retail price lists (they differ from manufacturer to manufacturer), and prepared this customers estimate in error. This is of course unacceptable and in no way an excuse. The overcharge was in the amount of $100.70 (one hundred dollars and seventy cents - $55 for one part & $40 for the other part + tax), and a refund in this amount has been issued to the customer with our sincerest apologies for this mistake. We take full responsibility for this error, and again we apologize for this. In addition to issuing the refund for the overcharged parts and waiving the second service call fee - we are also willing to extend to this customer a heavily discounted diagnostic call to re-asses her machine, as well as a heavily discounted service visit to install the newly needed parts. Our only goal is completed repairs and happy customers. We will do everything we can to work with our customers, as we are a local family business and our customer's satisfaction is the most important thing to us. We are always happy to provide independent third party verification of ALL parts prices we quote (we'll provide manufacturer price lists/contact info upon request for any estimate we provide). We deeply regret this negative review (it's our first), and we will do everything we can to provide this customer with a positive outcome from here on out. We will work with any and all of our customers in every way possible, and to reiterate our company policy: We always quote the entire service call fee prior to coming out (no surprises or added billing - we quote flat fees), and we always provide a full and complete estimate for all parts costs including shipping before the customer pays anything. We will happily provide price sheets/manufacturer contact info so any customer can verify parts prices independently. We appreciate our customers very much and will do everything we can to insure a positive outcome in every situation. Sincerely, The Atlantic Fitness Repair team

I needed repair service for my Image 10.6QL treadmill. On 02 Oct I called Atlantic Fitness Repair (AFR) and described the problem to them (the treadmill was hesitating/skipping while running on it) and told them I had previously ordered replacement belts (walk belt and motor drive belt) . They promptly provided an estimate ($225) and set an appointment for 09Oct (when I would be home). I was given at 2 hour appointment window 12:00 – 2:00 and Chris arrived around 12:30. I did receive an appointment confirmation reminder the day before. I reviewed with Chris the symptoms and then he went to work. He diagnosed the issues (worn belts), performed periodic maintenance. I was working up stairs and could hear that after Chris did the repairs he spent some time running on the treadmill to ensure the problem was corrected prior to having me check it out. He then asked if I would check it out to ensure I was satisfied. He also took the time to go over some basic items with me (such as new motor drive belt would make a small sound until the belt seam smoothed out) how to lube the walking belt. At no charge he also repaired a storage bracket that had broken off. He provided an invoice and I was charged the quoted rate with no hidden charges (I did opt to purchase some belt lube). Even the purchase of the belt lube was pleasant, was not a hard sale, Chris was quick to point out that I could easily purchase it elsewhere (but for me it was convenient). Very pleasant experience, they were responsive, knowledgeable, and prompt.
