Description of Work: We built a major $30k+ wooden staircase with twist rails and a curving 25ft balcony. H&R's craftsmanship is unparalleled They came in ahead of schedule and at budget. If you are looking for true craftsmen and skilled finish carpenters, this is your firm. They are not the cheapest, but they make up for it in timeliness and skill. We could not be happier with their work- we now have a showcase architectural feature for our home which will last for generations. I would recommend them to anyone. If you're in an estate property, consider them first. They will not disappoint.

Description of Work: I can't recommend Hooshang highly enough! He came out on a Saturday evening to give us an estimate for about 3 1/2 feet of stair rail--a clear example of his incredible work ethic. We were impressed and signed the contract that night. He did not have the samples I was interested in and drove to his supplier in a snow storm to get them. We picked out what we wanted and the rails were installed as soon as the supplies came in. He took great care to cut and lay the carpet around the bottom plate and even fixed some trim which had come off when we pulled some of the carpet up. We got oak posts/rails and wrought iron ballusters and am very happy with how they look and the high-quality job Hooshang did. Initially we wanted a more contemporary look but it was going to cost $1800 buying the supplies online and doing it ourselves or $2500 to have it done. This seemed exhorbitant to me for 3 1/2 ft. While the rails are little more traditional than I like, they do go with the house (colonial) and will probably be more appealing to buyers when we sell. Overalll, I am very happy with the look, price and quality. Do not hesitate to hire Hooshang for your new stair rails!

Description of Work: Two workmen spent a day constructing a difficult curved rail for the stairs. It is very sturdy, but there should have been more discussion about the brackets (shape and placement) as well as the spray paint. I asked for silver and the paint color is more of a metallic light blue. I wanted circular plates and they used rectangular. Again, this was not a simple project. The overall job is good, the rail serviceable, but the details not up to par with the rest of the house.

A truly pleasant experience. HR contacted us immediately, came for an inspection, gave us an estimate, and started work immediately. His work is not just competent and functional---it rises to the level of artful. The end result is absolutely stunning to the eyes, and is an amazing example of craftsmanship. In fact, a subsequent contractor who came to inspect our skylights was very impressed when he saw HR's work. As in most of these types of houses, our stairwell is the focal point of the room upon entering the house. I simply could not be more pleased with HR as a professional, and his work as a artesian. We plan to build an internal stairwell to our currently unconnected basement, and I intend to insist that the GC use HR for the stairwell portion of the project.
Description of Work: Completely replaced oak stairwell banister and handrail in three-story Capitol Hill row house. Also replaced bottom five steps and landing on first floor, and shored up stair support as needed.

The workmanship was excellent. He called me back within hours of my phone call and came over to give me an estimate. His price was half of the other quotes I got. He was able to do the work within a week. It came out beautiful. He was professional in his clean up as well. Overall excellent!

Mr. Rashidi was wonderful to work with. He promptly returned my call to set up an appointment to see the job. He came out at a time of our choosing and gave us a price on site. He gave us different options based on our questions and suggested how he thought the job should be done. His suggestion was actually the less expensive of the options. The rails were constructed on site and installed. The finished product exceeded my expectations. Mr. Rashidi was prompt, did the job very carefully and the job site was left clean. In wish I had more work for him to do.

Requested a quote for railing and someone from the company emailed me a request for linear square feet and photos. So I go across town to measure and take photos. Then sent measurements and photos to information@hrstairs.com... and nothing. No response whatsoever. Perhaps the job was not the right fit. How hard is it to say "not interested". Email is the perfect customer service tool. You can send any type of response from a variety of devices in a matter of seconds.

From beginning to end, we enjoyed our experience with Mr. Rashidi. I interviewed and had estimates in my home for seven other recommended stair builders. Mr. Rashidi was the last person we interviewed. Although his price was the highest, Mr. Rashidi's knowledge was immediately apparent, and his recommendations solid. Having been the victim of poor stair construction from an economical stair builder in the past, we did not put price as our primary consideration. Because Mr. Rashidi did most of the work himself (he had help lifting the very heavy stairs built off site into our home), traveling an hour each way to come to our home, and working for eight days, we do not consider his price too high. In fact, his work is the best we have encountered in many, many home projects that vary from kitchen, bath reconstruction and adding a conservatory. We treasure the stairs he built. Our one regret is that Mr. Rashidi does not sand, stair, or paint his stairs, so we are searching for a craftsman stainer and painter who will do justice to Mr. Rashidi's stairwork.
Description of Work: For our split-level home, H.R. Stairs built and installed two sets of oak stairs with oak treads and paint-grade risers and brackets. He furnished and installed a continuous hand rail and curving baluster around the wall that descended into lower floor. His carpentry and finishing skills are excellent. The previous stairs leading to the lower floor were too steep, so he built and installed a more gradual descent and a beautiful curving final step into the level below. He installed the balusters so skillfully that the stairs themselves look wider and are easier and safer to use. Mr. Rashidi is a master of his craft.

This business is owned and operated by Mr. Rashidi. He does the work, not day laborers or others. His estimate and price were by far the best of all bids. He knows the current safety code. He uses quality materials and does outstanding work. Top quality. I am extremely happy with the job. The oak was perfect. This upgrade really improved the house. He is also neat, courteous, and totally professional.
Description of Work: Mr. Rashidi put in handrails and balusters on the stairs of my split level. He added safety features to comply with the local code requirements. The finished work was so smooth little sanding was needed before finishing.

I initially contacted Hooshang with the intention of repairing a badly constructed, straight run of stairs leading down to the basement in our 1950's house. He returned my message promptly and scheduled a time to come out and see the staircase. After looking at the staircase, he advised me that it would be better to replace it entirely, since retrofitting it with the missing skirt boards was going to be problematic, and in his opinion we wouldn't be happy with the results. He strongly encouraged us to consider a new staircase, since it would solve the problem of the missing skirt boards, and be much better constructed with no squeaks. He gave me a verbal estimate for replacing the staircase, since I wasn't ready at that point to make a decision. Well over 2 months past, and I had a hard time finding stair specialists who were interested in either a repair or replacement job in my area. Most had elaborate web sites showcasing very fancy work, whereas we just needed straightforward quality work. I called H.R. Stairs and Rails again, and Hooshang came back out to the house, took measurements and provided me a written quote for replacing the existing stairs with red oak stairs using pine stringers and skirtboards, as well as installation. Over the next two weeks, H.R. Stairs and Rails built the staircase offsite, and arrived on time to install on Saturday morning. I was especially impressed that they kept the appointment to install even though it was snowing, and 6 inches or more were forecast for the day. Hooshang and his crew of 3 helpers were courteous and quickly got the staircase inside and started installation. In an hour they had the staircase installed, had cleaned up, and were ready to go. The stairs look great, don't make a sound, and we couldn't be happier with them. We're even considering having them do the stairs to our upstairs level as well. Hooshang was very professional, very courteous, and I'd absolutely recommend him and his company to anyone who needs stair work.
