Don Hoffacker’s Air Conditioning & Heating

I have been using them since I moved into my home about thirty years ago. It is a locally based company, that I believe was just Don when it first started. It has become a very large operation. They are very efficient and competent.

They are on time. They are courteous and very conscientious. Their technical knowledge is good in my opinion. Their pricing is perfectly reasonable. I have had no complaints with them and I would recommend them to anyone. They have also once replaced the capacitor on the unit. I would rate them as highly as I could rate anybody and I wish that all of our contractors were like them.

The service man at first was not pleasant, but I mentioned I found them on Angie's List. After that the service man was nice and explained everything in great detail. They were a bit on the high side, because they were the only company available on a hot day.

Our experience was fantastic! I called to set up an appointment for estimate and they said they had a guy in the area and he could be out in an hour. The person they sent wasn't a salesman, but one of their service techs, Dave, who was knowledgeable, friendly and explained all of our options in detail. He went through what would and wouldn't be a good idea based on his many years of experience to optimize our home's efficiency. He gave us a quote that was very reasonable for a bryant evolution system. We had priced out 7 other companies, all from Angie's list; this price was in line with most and much better than some for a better quality system. The installers came out within 4 days of the estimate and were very professional. They were clean, respectful and finished all the work (which was a lot) in one day. They showed me and my wife how to use the new (rather intense) electronic thermostat. The price was exactly what was quoted. They followed up by phone the next day.

I started by pulling together a list of items to use for evaluating HVAC companies, based on some web research. I then contacted 4 companies based on their listing for the manufacturers that were the highest rated(again web research). The Hoffacker's salesperson came over within a couple days to look at our current situation and provide an estimate. He clearly was very knowledgeable(as was 1 of the other 4 companies that came over)and helped me to work through my options. I requested estimates from 3 companies(2 weren't licensed in MD, 1 never responded)but the only estimate I ended up getting was from Hoffacker's. I probably should have gone out and asked for 1-2 more estimates, but I decided to go with Hoffacker's. They indicated they would arrive between 9-11 am and arrived at about 9:15. They asked a few questions and jumped right in. It took a total of about 5 hours of work for 3-4 guys. The cleaned up and spent some time going over the new furnace and what needed to be done for upkeep. I also got a thank you note from the president of the company!

Unlike other companies which shall, in the interest of commity and goodwill towards all, remain nameless, Don Hoffacker's agreed to come out on the same day I called -- which was crucial, because we were becoming *extremely* cold. The technician arrived punctually, promptly diagnosed the problem, and then quickly fixed it. He was polite and professional throughout. All in all, a wonderful experience. Highly recommended.

They are very professional. I don't get the feeling that they are trying to find something wrong to charge me for. I get the feeling they are just doing there job and are very honest. I will continue to use them.

They were very professional, and they showed up on time. I wasn t there at the time they installed it, but they were good about not damaging the floor and the carpet. There was dirt underneath the unit when they removed it, but there was no trail of dirt when I got home. Two weeks after they installed the unit, it wasn t working, so I called them and the next day the guy showed up. It s worked ever since.

Woke up on a Saturday morning with no heat. Called them and they had a tech here within 3 hours. He diagnosed the problem quickly. Didn't have the replacement part in his truck, but had one in the shop. Returned within 20 minutes and fixed the problem.

As a requirement to sale of my property, the buyer requested I have the coils on the heat pump in my condo unit cleaned. I used Angie's List and selected Don Hoffacker's. I called on the Monday before Thanksgiving to arrange a time for them to perform this service and was astonished when they offered the Friday after Thanksgiving as an option. Because of the pressure to have the service performed before closing, I naturally agreed to this date. I advised on this first call that I would arrange permission with the front desk to grant access to my unit as I would not be there. On Wednesday they called to ask how they would get in. This despite the fact that I'd already advised on my original call that I would arrange their entry with the front desk personnel. On Friday morning (early!!!), they called to advise that they don't service my building. While the representative from the company was pleasant and apologetic (in fact, they were all pleasant), I still feel that overall this was a service failure. Proper training of those that schedule such appointments would have prevented me from making an appointment in the first place. Then, they actually called back to see how they could gain entry. A clear indication that the work order had been reviewed a second time and still not a word that they'd be unable to perform the work. I lost a week of precious time and operated under the happy misassumption that it was taken care of and the work would be performed. While the work itself might have ultimately been top notch, I'll never know. I was still left an unhappy and unserviced customer. The service aspect of this company's operations could use some attention.

The company did not perform the actual work, since this was emergency response and they didn't have immediate availability.

They are very good. I have dealt with a few other HV/AC companies and they are the best I have used. They showed up on time and finished in the alloted time frame. I would highly recommend them.

They were great. They were very professional, they were reliable, they showed up on time. Used them in the past, I would use them again and definitely.

I have been using Don Hoffackers for a number of years to service both my condo and now my house's units. I've felt the guys were always honest and never tried to sell me unnecessary stuff, except once when our A/C broke, and the guy said the whole unit was toast. I told him about the home warranty we had (they weren't the contracted dealer) and asked him to specify what was wrong so I could file a claim, plus I wanted a quote for new systems to compare against the warranty people in case they were cheaper than the warranty sham once they got you for upgrading to a decent systems, etc. I got the quote and called to ask about it, and talked to one of the senior guys there who said "it doesn't sound like your system is broken-can I come out this afternoon and look? no charge". He came out and identified a part that was broken-$100-and explained how it was misdiagnosed but, profusely apologized and got the tech on the phone who actually did the work and explained what he did wrong. Yes, the young guy was wrong but their internal levels of review caught the error and they made good on the error. He even said "I see no reason to replace a perfectly good system that can be fixed, when it is possible and economically feasible". I'll keep going to them.

They were a great company. They came out and did a very professional estimate and when I compared them to 3 other companies they were the best value even though they were not the cheapest. The men that came out and did the work were quick and they ran me through everything they did when they were done.

Even though this was a brief interaction, I felt that they were very courteous, friendly and helpful.

I awoke one morning to find my A/C was not functioning (mid-August). My home was for sale and I had prospective buyers coming at 7:00 PM that evening, so needless to say, I was a nervous wreck. I joined Angie's List at the suggestion of a friend at work and searched for an A/C company. I came across Hoffacker's Air Conditioning and Heating. I was at work and my husband was out of town. I called them at 11:00 AM, and set-up a 3:00 PM appointment. My dad came over to meet the repairman. He was very polite and experienced. He could have easily taken advantage of us but didn't. It was a minor repair that he fixed immediately. I came home to a nice cool home and had no problem showing my house that evening. He even left the broken part so we could see what he'd replaced. I couldn't believe I was able handle this in a matter of hours. There are still good, honest people out there and Hoffacker's is among them. These days, it's a great feeling to be able to put you trust in a company. Not only will I continue to use them, I've told everyone I know this story so they can enjoy the same level of service I did.

I had heard nothing but great reviews about this company but we did not have an ideal experience with them. The quality of the work was good, but the professionalism was horrible. They literally were shouting to one another from the main floor to the basement. I politely asked them to be quiet since I had a sleeping baby. The crew had mocked me to the sales guy and I found out through my husband. They were pretty noisy while in the basement, but did stop with shouting from one level to another after I asked. They left dirty Pepsi bottles behind. The sales guy, Glen, didn't mention that a high efficiency furnace would have an ugly cone shaped vent that would be routed directly outside next to our sliding glass door. If I had known, we would have paid extra to move it away from the door. Frank had come out to fix the thermostat and tracked oil from the road onto our carpet in the basement. I guess that could happen to anybody, but it was just another annoying piece of the pie that reminds us of the experience.

I liked everything, I thought they were terrific. They were on time, their prices were good, and they have a real personal touch which I like. They also are obviously experts in their field. All in all I was very pleased.

They were prompt and clean and did everything he said he would do and did everything they said. They were very professional and cleaned up there mess when they were done.

A clean-cut, well-spoken man arrived early and waited until the scheduled time before coming to my door. He asked for a description of the problem, determined that the outdoor AC unit might be the reason that one of our two air conditioners wasn't working and immediately found a blown capacitor. This was, he said, most likely due to the recent severe thunderstorms, and then he explained how to prevent it from happening again (turn off the power to the AC at the fuse box during the storm). I asked how much he said $89 for the service call and approximately $150 for the capacitor. He replaced the capacitor and gave me the bill for $256.

During a recent heat wave, our 10 year old A/C unit would run but not cool. I got an appointment the day I called. The technician was prompt and efficient, quickly identifying the problem and taking care of it. He was efficient, professional, knowledgeable and courteous. He explained the pros and cons of heat pumps versus A/C units without being pushy or trying to sell me on a new unit (which he said that we would not need for a number of years). I would definitely use this company again.

They weren't trying sell us something, but were focused on satisfying our needs. Called before they came, they were excellent communicators. They finished the job within a day. They were very tidy and cleaned up after themselves.

I got estimates from two other companies. Hoffacker treated me the most professionally and also gave the lowest estimate. One company insisted that I would have to replace my electric furnace with a heat pump or the system would not work. Hoffacker recommended the same for long-term economy, but when I declined in the interest of short-term economy they assured me it would work fine and were happy to write up the estimate. The man from the third company was professional enough until I told him I chose Hoffacker, and then he became rather unprofessional. -- The other two companies both have a twelve-month no-payment/no-interest plan; Hoffacker was able to give me six months. -- I had to have the work done on a Saturday. I called on Tuesday to set up the appointment and they were able to come out the very next Saturday, a lifesaver since we were having a 90-degree heat wave. -- Three guys arrived promptly at 8am and were very efficient, organized and knowledgeable. They lugged the equipment in and out without me even having to move my furniture to make way. They were happy to explain everything they were doing. They pulled out the old tubing and wiring and ran the new ones in without having to make a hole in the ceiling. -- They didn't make a mess, nothing I couldn't clean up quickly with the Hoover. They carefully put everything they had moved back in place, including the clothes dryer which is rather difficult to move without disrupting the vent. -- I have a brand new thermostat that I really like and they left it in place and just gave me their new one to keep as a backup. -- The whole job took barely three hours and I was able to work while they were here. -- Best of all (and I have had a lot of trouble with other contractors on this) they were careful not to let my dogs out the gate as they were coming and going. -- These guys are fabulous.
