Don Hoffacker’s Air Conditioning & Heating

Our air conditioner broke. We called Hoffacker who we had used in the past. They came within a few days and told us the air conditioner had a bad leak and needed to be replaced and gave us an estimate. Even though this is their busiest time of year they came within 3 days and installed the new unit. They were very professional and did a great job.They covered the floors with drop cloths and cleaned up afterwards. I would definitely use them again. Our new air conditioner works great, much better than the old one. It is more energy efficient and better for the environment.

It went well. Punctual with quote and installation. Worked around some complicated space issues for the installation.

We needed to check if 19 years old a/c can be started in the house that we just bough. After finding out that we do not have working a/c, the company was great in making appointment for the next day (that was Saturday) so we did not have to suffer hot weather without a/c. Technician arrived when they say he would, He worked quickly and left no mess. He gave us estimate for the a/c unit replacement as well. Since the a/c works, we decided to keep the old one for now, so we made another appointment in a week for the company to come and service the outside unit. The technician again was very polite and quick. We definitely will be using this company the future.

The Estimate Rick was prompt and professional. His estimate was far more detailed than all but one other company, and on the low end of the estimates received. He did have to reschedule his initial visit, but went out of his way to reschedule promptly around my schedule. He even made a second trip to advise me on preparing for the installation. The Installation A three-man crew came out to install, arriving about 8:15 for an estimated 8-10 am arrival. The started work promptly and were finished shortly after 1:00 pm. They were courteous and informative. Overall I am extremely satisfied.

My air conditioning (I have a heat pump) was not functioning properly. It had been freezing at peak-demand times and hardly cooling at all so far this spring. We bought a foreclosed home about 18 months ago, and had no idea what condition our heat pump was in or how old it was. I called Don Haffacker's and scheduled an appointment for 2 days later (they had an opening the next day, but I had to delay a day so I could be home). Mr. Lee arrived approximately 25 minutes before the 8 - 10 AM appointment time. He was very courteous and helpful, and very patient. When I tried to open the door to the basement, it locked from the other side. Mr. Lee was kind enough to remove the pin from the door hunges and open the door, then rehang it for me. That was definitely not required of him, and I so appreciate his extra effort. After investigating the problem, he added refrigerant to my heat pump and made some recommendations (buy and insert a new filter, get the coils cleaned during a future service call, which I will schedule with Don Hoffacker's), then explained some things about my system. He also checked out another heat pump that a previous owner had installed (DIY) and was not functioning. I am very pleased with the service and professionalism of Mr. Lee and will definitely work with Don Hoffacker's again.

The person came and did a thorough test on the system. He determined that we had to changed our furnace for sure. I asked him if we could wait for 10-15 days as we just moved in (2nd day). He said absolutely not and turned off the furnace in the middle of winter and left. He wrote a quote for a new furnace in his truck and came back, gave it to us and left. Basically tried to extort us thinking a new home owners would not know how to handle the situation and cave in. I did not know how to turn the furnace back on at that time and had to sleep without heat in the new home that night. Next day I figured out how to turn it on. Got it inspected with another company and they said it is fine, just old as every other household in our neighborhood. 5 years after this, my furnace still runs fine and have not given us any trouble. I was just visiting my reviews and looked at this. I didn't know better at that time but now that I look back at it, he was completely unethical about the situation.

Made appointment. Serviceman appeared on time. Assessed problem and replaced part for short-term fix. Made recommendation for long term repair. Explanation of work done and proposed work clearly written on bill. Service manager available next day and able to answer questions after speaking to serviceman who performed the work.

They put in a heat pump in 1998 and we have used them since. They are very qualified people and seem to know what they are doing in both heating and air conditioning. All the employees have been with the company for a long time. They offer helpful hints to prevent the problem from occurring again. The air conditioner builds up algae in the drainpipe during the hot months and they offered tips to keep the line clear so it wouldn't cause bigger problems in the future. We've had the problem a couple of times and putting Clorex helps to keep the pipes clear. I compared rates back in 1998 and their rates were lower than another company.

We've only seen them once. They showed up when they were supposed to and did what they were supposed to do. They didn't leave a mess. We needed it done and got it done.

Very quick appointment, work done very professional. I will use them again.

Overall, we are very happy with the service we received from Don Hoffacker's Air Conditioning & Heating. They were responsive to our needs and respectful of us and our house. The crew was professional, friendly, and communicative. Tim H. was our on-site supervisor and he was at our house everyday to manage the work and keep us informed about the progress. They provided us with air filters that we were not able to find elsewhere. One small issue was that we had to go through several iterations of the contract to get it sufficiently detailed for us. This wasn't difficult or problematic; it just took a few days to get worked out. In the end, the service was good enough so that this process was not really necessary. The contract could have simply said "new ductwork" and it would have turned out fine.

They have a quick and efficient service.

This was an exceptional experience. My father is 86 and his furnace was malfunctioning. I live in Philadelphia, and found Hoffackers through Angie's List. I called them on New Years Day, asking for service on Monday (it wasn't an emergency), and asking them to communicate with me rather than with my dad. They called twice to confirm the timing of their visit, and were right on time. Mike did the repair, but more to the point, he called me afterwards to say that my dad seemed ill. It turned out that my dad had a serious infection and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. I would not have known if Mike hadn't called me. I am forever grateful. Thank you Mike!

We needed a new humidifier installed so I called several HVAC companies for quotes and they all were $750-$800. Based on this, I made my choice based on reputation instead of cost, and Don Hoffackers did a great job. They were on time, did nice work, left a clean work area, and were very professional. They walked me through all of their work, showed me how the system was connected etc. I was very impressed with how professional they were and would recommend them again.

Don Hoffackers is really a first-rate business. They were always prompt at returning calls, extremely courteous and responsive throughout the bidding and installation process, knew their products (unlike other contractors from whom I solicited bids), did not try to over-sell me on the most expensive system (indeed, I chose to buy a more expensive system than they initially recommended to me), came exactly when they said they would both for the quotation and the installations, worked diligently and neatly, and took the time to explain everything to me before they left. I was very impressed.

The experience with the owner was very good while the experience with the technicians was just about good. The owner was very good and patient. It was a huge job, worth $6000, and he provided a lot of information. They arrived without the equipment they needed although we had discussed the job 3 different times with the office. When they showed up to work, I asked them if they had brought the ladder, and they said that they weren?t informed about that. They didn?t have the basic stuff. I had to supply the ladder and some other tools. I would have to use them again because they didn?t finish the job.

They were very professional. They called before they came and called to apologize that the full service couldn?t be done on the day they thought it could be done. It is an old furnace, and they had to specially order the part. They didn?t push us to replace the entire furnace. I felt that the price was fair for the time he spent and the piece of equipment that was actually purchased. The heating works and so we are very happy. It is a good company, and we would use them again.

Everything went great and I would definitely rate them highly on everything. I will absolutely continue to use them.

After reading the glowing reviews here, I contacted Don Hoffacker's for a quote. Frank came out the next day and provided me with a quote after having examined the existing equipment. They even came out and recharged the failing AC to hold me off until the new units were installed the following week at no additional cost. Hoffacker's was very prompt, professional, competitively priced. On the day of the installation three service technicians came in early and started work right away. They all had been working on HVAC installations for over 15 years and knew their stuff inside out. They had no problems with me hovering around and providing satisfactory answers when I had questions. They were very professional and provided detailed explanation of how to operate the new HVAC system. The new system has now been working flawlessly for the past couple of months and appears to be properly sized (although no manual J was performed). I am very happy with the work they have done and am planning on having them replace my water heater.

Service technician did thorough job of explaining his work, gave me a number of tips on heat pump maintenance, since I have never had one before. Suggested replacing of igniter on gas furnace, gave reasons why, but no pressure, just information and pricing. Also pointed out possible minor oil leak on air conditioner connections in basement, he cleaned the area, told me what to watch, once spring maintenance check comes around may have better idea of what problem may be, in meantime, simply keep eye on it, especially since the A/C worked well in very hot and humid weather. Showed me the humidifier and explained it, which he did not have to do, but showed his professionalism. Decided to purchase/install the igniter today, based on cost of installation now instead of parts & labor for "no heat" service call. Also suggested "water alarm" to pick up at Lowes or Home Depot, so that if the humidifier or A/C would start to leak, would not have items stored in furnace room damaged by water. They seem very focused on preventive maintenance to keep systems running for the long-term.

I called the company to perform service on my heat pump. I believed that the coolant was low and need to be recharged. I was given an appointment time of between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM the same day. The representative came to my house and my 28 year old son took the representative around to our back yard. The gentleman walked into the yard looked at the heat pump turned and left. He told my son he could not help me. He never attempted to diagnose the problem.

We have been customers for over 20 years; however, when it came time to replace our furnace, we sought three different companies' bids on the work. This firm came in the lowest. The work was done by a team who completed the whole job in under four hours. The system has worked excellently. We got the most efficient model of heat pump to take advantage of the government tax incentive. While it is difficult to tell for sure about electricity usage due to the cooler than normal spring and summer, it does appear that we are saving money. But in addition, to our surprise, we are also noticing a lower water bill! We have determined that the old humidifier was using far more water than we realized. The electronic air filter has also made a noticeable reduction in dust in the house. We are quite pleased.

Our recently installed (APR 09) AC/Furnace had quit working. They came out the next day and determinted that it was the pump for the condensation basin. They replaced it free of charge.

They are prompt, responsive and courteous. They come in and do what they have to do. The quality of their work is very good. I have been satisfied with their service.
