In the summer of 1977, Don Hoffacker's Air Conditioning & Heating opened its doors to begin providing residents in Montgomery County with quality service and installations of new heating and cooling equipment. The firm seeks to employ only qualified individuals, who are continuously educated and trained on new products arriving on the residential market each year. We pride ourselves as a firm having been recognized time and again by local media, as well as a very prominent consumer organization, as a business providing service and installation procedures which are top rated for both price and quality.

The first person that came out was late by an hour but he did apologized and gave a legitimate reason which was driving from Virginia to Maryland during rush hour but he quickly got to work and diagnosed the problem which was the fan on the heat pump and said he did have the part on hand but he can order and have someone else come the next day and install it and that is exactly what happened the guy came out and installed it the next day and it was fixed.

Yes, the service call went fine.  The tech arrived between the time frame he was supposed to arrive and was thorough with the check. The technician was professional and answered all of my questions.  He was honest and didn't try to upsell any services.  In the past, I have been told I needed to do certain things to the A/C system in order for it to run more efficiently.  I did what the technician recommended but later told by another technician that it was not needed.  Needless to say, I didn't stay with that HVAC company.  I will definitly use Don Hoffacker again.

Called because our 25 year old A/C stopped working and asked for a quote for a new system. Technician quoted a reasonable price compared to another quote, and after listening to the symptoms said that a coolant charge might fix it. Decided to try the coolant charge option and it has worked for a couple of days so far. Coolant was just over $100/lb with no other service charge.
I was impressed with the straight forward approach of the sales rep/technician and the absence of any hype or high pressure tactics.

UPDATE 12/18/14 - HAD A VERY BAD FOLLOW-UP EXPERIENCE WITH DON HOFFACKER'S - THE NEW THERMOSTAT THAT THEY INSTALLED WITH THE A/C KEPT RESETTING IN THE PAST COUPLE OF MONTHS SINCE THE HEAT WAS TURNED ON.  WHILE DON HOFFACKER'S DID NOT INSTALL A NEW HEATER, THEIR NEW THERMOSTAT STILL CONTROLLED MY OLD HEATER AS WELL.  I CALLED THEM ON SUNDAY 12/14/14 BECAUSE MY HEATER HAD GONE OFF AT NIGHT AFTER THE THERMOSTAT RESET TO 62 DEGREES.  THIS HAD HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST FEW WEEKS AND MY HEATER WOULD NOT TURN ON UNTIL I MANUALLY TURNED UP THE HOLD TEMPERATURE ON THE THERMOSTAT.  I NATURALLY THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE THERMOSTAT.  WHEN I LEFT A MESSAGE WITH THE ANSWERING SERVICE, I EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM EXACTLY AS IT WAS - ALSO CLEARLY STATING THAT WE ONLY HAD A NEW AC AND THERMOSTAT INSTALLED BUT NOT THE HEATER!  A SERVICE GUY CALLED BRIAN CALLED ME THAT VERY AFTERNOON AND SAID HE WAS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND IF IT WAS OK TO COME AND CHECK IT OUT.  I SAID SURE BECAUSE I COULDN'T HAVE THE HEAT SHUT OUT ON ME ARBITRARILY, ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT.  BRIAN DID NOT MENTION ANYTHING ABOUT A SERVICE CHARGE OR EVEN AN EMERGENCY SERVICE CHARGE AND I DID NOT ASK EITHER BECAUSE THE THERMOSTAT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY .  BRIAN CAME AND QUICKLY ASSESSED THE PROBLEM WAS WITH A LOOSE WIRE IN THE HEATER AND TIGHTENED IT BACK.  THEN HE STARTED WRITING ME UP FOR AN EMERGENCY SERVICE CHARGE AND I SAID "WAIT A MINUTE - YOU NEVER TOLD ME THERE WOULD BE ANY CHARGES OR EVEN GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE?"  HE SAID TO TAKE IT UP WITH THE OFFICE AND LEFT.  TODAY WITHOUT ANY FOLLOW-UP CALL DON HOFFACKER'S SENT ME $140 NVOICE IN THE MAIL.  I WAS SO UPSET I CALLED THEM BACK AND SAID THEIR CONDUCT WAS EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL AND REFUSED TO PAY.  I ALSO TOLD THEM THAT I WOULD UPDATE MY PREVIOUSLY GLOWING REVIEW WITH THIS EXPERIENCE.  I HAD PAID THEM $4090 TO INSTALL A NEW AC/THERMOSTAT AND WAS SO HAPPY WITH IT BACK IN THE SUMMER THAT I TOLD MY WIFE THAT I WOULD PROBABLY INSTALL A NEW HEATER THROUGH DON HOFFACKER'S NEXT YEAR.  BUT AFTER THIS SHABBY SERVICE CALL EXPERIENCE - I HAVE CHANGED MY MIND.  NO MORE DON HOFFACKER'S FOR ME!

I am not sure the exact cost, I think it is in this ballpark.  We get 2 service calls per year.  We have also had them make repairs to our system.   Service is excellent, they are always on time and the gentlemen who come to home are very pleasant and clearly communicate any concerns about the system.   I highly suggest this company!

Hoffacker's came out and looked at the old system.  They gave me an estimate for a new system based on the size of the house.  They gave me 4 options for systems.  While researching the options, the estimator was available to me to answer questions about the systems.  At the same time, I was having repair work on the utility closet.  Hoffacker's was very courteous in working with the contractor's schedule so that there was no break in the work.  Once I chose a HVAC system, the ladies in the office were prompt with scheduling.  They also assisted me with the financing options.
After my contractors did the initial work so that Hoffacker's crew could remove the old system, it literally took them 30 minutes to remove the furnace and air conditioning compressor.  After repairs were made to the floor around where the furnace would sit by my contractor, Hoffacker's crew came back in and installed the new system.  They were also able to install the compressor at the side of the house as requested.  The guys were courteous, efficient, and cleaned the work area before leaving.

Glen was the technician and had to go into the attic, he said it was the circuit board that was malfunctioned. He had to go out to the truck to get the part; he gave me the pricing, which I did believe was marked up too high, since I checked the prices online, but I agreed to it anyways. When he got done, I asked where the broken piece was, he said he left it by the unit so the next person can see what was wrong with the unit; also refused to go back up and get it. I even asked if he wrote on the unit his name and date, he replied no. Also when he was done, he came down out of the attic and there was a mess of insulation left on the floor and he refused to put the insulation back into the opening of the attic and did not close the swing to the attic door back up, he said I can have my husband do it. Also, my child is highly allergic to the insulation, which again, he did not clean up. He just proceeded to write me a bill.

I called the office later on to speak with someone about what had happened. When I called they said the person that came out was a service manager. I was shocked that he was in management due to the experience I had with him. I wanted to speak with either the owner or manager of the company and was informed they would leave a message for them, I never heard anything back, so I called the next day. I still did not hear anything back. The unit was working after he left, but I am not sure of what he actually did.

After this experience, I would not recommend them to anyone!

"In response to the somewhat confusing complaint on behalf of [Member Name], who is making this complaint some FIVE months after the fact. I offer the following. On December 4, 2013 (@4pm) we received a call from [Member Name] requesting service for a problem with the upstairs system in her home "providing very little heat". She also stated that she our repair coupon form "Angie's List" which we did honor. She was given an appointment for the very next day with an arrival time between 10am & 1pm. Our technician Glen arrived at 12:pm. on December 5, 2013. Even though in the attic, this repair normally would have taken no more than 45 minutes from arrival to departure! Instead, this repair took TWO HOURS and FIFTEEN MINUTES!! Generally with three to five minutes a technician has determined what type of customer he will be helping. Rarely, but it can happen, they will want to leave right after the first three minutes. . . .and this is exactly how our technician felt on this day shortly after entering the house. The entire two hours and fifteen minutes were consumed by very suspect behavior and they entered and re-entered the attic numerous times only to interrupt our technician with interrogative types to question and answer sessions. Our technician was treated very poorly by the individuals that live here. We arrived as scheduled and left them with heat. FIVE MONTHS LATER WE RECEIVED A COMPLAINT which I consider . . . suspect. Thank heaven this is not the norm or we would not be in business! The technician requested that he never be sent here again and a computer entry was made "we never go back here". This technician has been with our firm for twenty-two years. We wish we could hire ten more just like him. Our technician entered this home at the owner's request. He should have been respected, given answers to his questions and left alone to make the needed repairs in a timely manner. None if that happened in this house! Shame on these two individuals. P.S. You can buy just about anything on the Internet and buy it for less. But the knowledge to figure out a problem and FIX it (in 45 minutes) . . . . you cannot!"

They gave me an estimate of $6500 for replacement of the HVAC system which I thought was pretty high but it needed to be done because it was in the middle of the summer heat.  I appreciated the honesty and attempt of the company to try to save me money.  The estimator's honesty and willingness to help and not take advantage actually heavily weighed into my decision to go with the company.  The company finished within a day and the HVAC worked great and still does!

They were a very good team. Each worker new his job and got to it. I have a very small furnace room but that did not seem to bother them. At one time they had two men in the furnace.  Even though they were busy they took time to answer any of my questions. Also there price was the best out of 3 from Angie's Lists.

I've used this firm in two different homes since 1985.  I have also referred them to several friends who have all also continued to use the firm's services.  They do not advertise because they do not have to.  Word of mouth is sufficient to keep them plenty busy.  I have a one-year maintenance contract which covers the spring and fall routine check-ups.  A few years ago, we needed a new furnace.  I got bids from four companies, including this one.  I told each of the firms that I was obtaining other bids.  Also, one year, we had no heat,.  They came out quickly and repaired the board in the furnace.  Don H.'s firm came in much below the other three.  I have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone.

Hoffacker and its crews are terrific.  On the phone and in person they have been very patient and helpful, evaluating my situation - not just their billing opportunities, diagnosing my needs and providing efficient and cost-effective solutions.  Dennis gave me a lot of time on the phone, and Craig Fields treated me as if I were the most important customer that they had this year.  The installation was clean, professional, and expertly done by a crew that included Mike Duncan and Steve Brown.  We've heated the new space with the new ducts extended into ceiling and floor registers as well as a toe-kick and enjoyed the envy of guests who marveled at how cozy are new space feels.  Mike and Steve did a great job and are excellent ambassadors for this top notch contractor.  I recommend them and Hoffacker's enthusiastically.
