 + 0 moreOur AC was not working. They informed me that re $79 I spent from Angie's list would go toward the diagnostics and any repairs. They were able to identify the problem and fix it plus they refilled the coolant and put in a dye to track any leak. Overall, they seemed very nice and competent. I am not sure if the cost was reasonable as I have no comparison; however considering I had a similar issue last year, it seems expensive. Our AC is wirkjng fine now.
Description of Work: Run Capacitor 440V - 10 MFD A_ARC_A1002 (.17/0) Replace the run capacitor 440V - 10 MFD. A run capacitor supplies a motor with the power to start. It is almost like a battery or jump starter for an electrical motor. Replaced when defective or below manufactures recommended specifications. 440v capacitors replace either 330v or 440v type capacitors. Includes replacement of the capacitor, and test of the system. Many components can not be tested until a defective capacitor is replaced. 1-Year Warranty Refrigerant Charging of up to 3 lbs. of R410 A_ARF_A1012 (.34/0) Refrigerant Charging of up to 3 lbs. of R-410. Includes entire check of the indoor and outdoor system as air flow, indoor coils can effect refrigerant pressures. Includes installation of new R410 refrigerant into the system. When you purchase an offer like this, there is a feeling that the service provider may use it as an opportunity to try to sell you something extra, even if you don't need it.  + -1 moreThe service went okay. The technician recommended I not use the coupon for what I had originally purchased it for. He thought the water heater drain may be compromised if he tried to drain it. I ended up having them clean the kitchen sink drain. He was knowledgeable, polite and courteous. It was nice to see him wear booties in the house which none of the other plumbers have done. I had no problem scheduling the deal and they were great at following up with me.

 + 1 moreWe have used Wheat in the past for HVAC and water filter installation and asked them to come to do some minor plumbing repairs including replacing a leaking seal between the tank and bowl of a toilet and tightening a faucet that was loose from the counter in our kitchen (something that would have taken 15 min with a long neck wrench) Bottom line... the tech said he would only do the work if we replaced every fitting and part of the toilet which was not needed and refused to help us on the sink suggesting instead a complete new faucet installation which we did not need. The total quoted me $800!! I had him do the toilet work because I had company coming and was time constrained, but felt I was railroaded into doing work that was not needed at excessive cost and was very unhappy. I did not feel as if the tech was customer service oriented at all, just economically motivated. I finally called Michael Wheat to tell him the story. His response was gratifying. He made it clear that the tech should have offered us the option of the simpler repair without the blanket warranty and sent a second tech out at no charge to take care of our faucet at no charge. He also offered to review the billing for the toilet. It was good to know the problem was a training issue and not a change in selling approach. I was very pleased with management concern and responsiveness and will use them again.

 + 0 moreScheduling was fine, and the technician they sent out was perfectly polite. But their pricing is absurd, and both the technician and the person I later talked to in their office were completely unwilling to discuss it in any detail. They quoted me over $1000 to replace the expansion tank on our boiler. An expansion tank like ours costs about $40, and replacing it just involves unscrewing the old one and screwing the new one on. I could probably do it myself, though I'd rather have a professional do it. Sure, they may have needed to drain the boiler system--but they had a separate line item for that, another $400. I couldn't get any clarity from their office person, just a lot of "this is a big job, it's complicated." I called around to another HVAC contractor (highly rated on Angie's List), who had a flat rate of about $350 for the job. This was all very frustrating, and now I'm out $125 for their diagnostic, and have to find someone with non-crazy pricing to do the work.

Advised I needed extra work and that I should do so before returning to complete necessary work. In answering my questions I had a much bettering understanding of how my logs worked. The only thing I would suggest is a slightly more diligent clean up.

 + -1 moreObviously was an expensive proposition to replace all these systems in 1 year but the contractor grade versions kept failing. They were fair, honest, and did great quality work. Only reason not all A's is the price was on the high side but that generally comes with high quality. We got to know their staff very well over this process. They worked thru high heat in our attic for the 2nd zone system. Even had the owner come out to do some measurements in preparation for one of the installs. Good, honest bunch of folks. I would highly recommend getting an annual service contract with them as it results in preferred scheduling if any service issues arise.
Description of Work: Replaced Main furnace, air conditioner, and second zone furnace & heat pump. Have annual service contract now.

We've also have an annual contract that provides us with semi-annual check-ups and priority in emergency situations. Yesterday we woke up to a very cold house and a furnace that seemed stuck on pre-ignition mode. I called the service dept and was told they'd rearrange the day so we could get a repair technician that day. I was called back a short time later and given a time window for a technician to come to the house. It ended up being a very simple fix, but we were pleased with the technician's thoroughness and professionalism. On a day when the outside temps were well below freezing, I was very happy to have Wheat & Sons as my service provider.

 + -1 moreGood. The fellow was nice and professional. I do wish he had cleaned the area afterwards with a strong cleaner, as the soot/dust from the work was still there - not tons, but enough. Also, he wasn't able to re-attach the spring for the flu/vent, although he tried. He promised the office would be in touch. Once that happens, and that if fixed, I'll be able to change the grade for the work.
Description of Work: Cleaned and checked the FP, restarted the pilot and showed us how to do it in the future, re-attached the flu vent adjustment system. Also ran some diagnostics to be sure everything was safe and working well...
