I am so pleased with the great work that Robert did at my home yesterday. The project was to install four new dedicated 20A lines for my home theater. The hard part was finding a way to keep the power cables hidden from view. Robert and I discussed a convoluted route, which led at one point through an overhead narrow shaft that led across the width of the garage and the adjoining room to a closet in the house. The shaft was open from the closet, and was already being used for other cables. But the shaft was long and dark and full of obstructions. The reason for using this shaft was that otherwise the cables would be always visible both in the garage and in the room in the house. Robert worked for a long time using long flexible rods to fish the cables through. But he kept being blocked by the obstructions in the narrow passage. The point I want to emphasize is that Robert showed great patience and perseverance, and kept on trying when many other electricians may well have quit. But eventually, with a lot of work, Robert was able to successfully get the cables to the other side of the shaft, where they could be grasped and drawn through. I want to commend Robert for his great work. Now the cables are fully and carefully laid and connected, neatly and cleanly fastened, and the wall plate has power with four 20A circuits. The best part is that except for the wall plate on the wall in the home theater area, and the four new 20A circuit breakers in the circuit breaker box, virtually none of this work is visible. In every way Robert was exemplary, and he is a great credit to Holt Electrical. I interviewed other electricians before selecting Holt Electrical, but I wonder if they would have had the patience and perseverance that Robert showed in a tough and demanding situation. This was a job well done.

They did a fantastic job. They had to cut the interior wall and were very careful to put the drywall back so there was no gapping holes. I would highly recommend them and I would definitely hire them again.

The electrical work went very well, but the job was very expensive. I bought a Angie's list • $2,050 for an electrical panel "heavy-up" to 200-amp Cutler Hammer 42-circuit panel board and it came out to -$4,584.00 which is 150% of special's price. This was well over my budget. I was very happy with the quality of the work.

They were excellent - easy to schedule, came on time as discussed, courteous, friendly, worked quickly and professionally, cleaned up after themselves, and finished quicker than I expected. I quoted out several vendors and theirs was among the most affordable. I will definitely be using them again if needed.

Holt was the only electrical contractor that promptly and substantively answered my Angie’s message and didn’t force me to call them. The communications were very quick throughout. Arrived on time, work was professional, representative was professional. Our electrician of choice from now on.

Great service from beginning to end. We really appreciated Maurice’s expertise and he did a thorough job explaining all of the steps. We had overage Fees for several items, which was disappointing, but understandable.

I needed to replace the original electrical panel that was installed when my house was built in 1973. I knew what type and brand of electrical panel that I wanted based on my own research. After reviewing companies on Angie's List, I contacted 2 companies to provide me with an estimate. The first company provided me an estimate when it came out to fix an electrical outlet. At the time, Holt had a deal on Angie's List so the company sent someone to examine the scope of work and provide me with an estimate of any additional work that would be required but not included in the deal. I also asked for an estimate for some additional work not related to the heavy-up. I liked the fact that I could make an informed decision about the cost of this project and not be surprised later with additional charges. Holt, as well as the other company, listed all the proposed work on a written proposal. Both companies answered any questions that I had. Holt proposed some work because there was a possibility that the inspector may require it. I was told that if the inspector required the additional items to be done that the price listed would not change. Therefore, I chose to wait on those items because I did not feel it was necessary. The other company did not suggest any additional work based on potential issues with the inspector. Ultimately, I chose Holt because the price was a little less than the other company because of the Angie's List deal. Also, I liked that Holt included a better quality electrical panel in it's original offer, and anything not included in the deal was detailed in the fine print section of the offer. Plus, Holt included a special for a mini surge protector that I purchased. Finally, I felt comfortable with the assigned project manager, Maurice. He was involved in the project starting with the estimate. He detailed everything that would take place during the project including where they may have to cut into the drywall. On the day of the project, all went well. It was a long day because of the location of my electrical panel and main water shutoff that needed to be grounded. Also, Maurice had to test all the circuits to determine what rooms were connected. He went the extra mile to make sure that he did a quality job on the project. Now, I have read previous comments about the handwriting on the circuit breaker labels. It's not great but it's labeled and I can read it. If I feel that strongly about it, I can make new ones on a computer and place it over the existing one. My focus is on the installation of the panel and the quality of the panel. If something is done wrong, my house could burn down so I didn't prioritize the handwriting. As for the price, I thought it was excellent given what I wanted and in comparison to the other company. Now the project isn't complete because I'm still waiting on Pepco to show up and do it's part. After that, I contact the company again to alert the inspector to come out. I would hire the company again. In fact, I have other electrical projects in this house that I told them that I would contact them to handle.

The technician was not able to adequately explain or diagnose my electrical issues when I asked what caused the blown light switch. He simply turned on the breaker and said it was fine. He did see my flush mount lights were not properly installed, and reinstalled them. He was very slow in getting the work done. At the end of the appointment, I asked for an estimate on having recess lights and a ceiling fan installed in my living room. While he said he would email me an estimate, I never received one.

Overall, the service was very good. Paperwork was very easy to complete and scheduling was relatively easy. The technicians who came to do the work were very friendly, professional, and efficient. One thing that could’ve been better was communication. Our tech “D” (for anonymity) said that he needed to come back to finish one piece that he didn’t have a part for (a junction box and a few other miscellaneous things), and didn’t mention any additional charge. When Mike called back to confirm the follow-up appt, he told me it would be another $80 and when I said no one way ever explained that to me, he said the tech should have. We scheduled the follow-up and there was no discussion about the date of the inspection. When the tech came back the following week or so, he confirmed that Pepco would probably be coming after he finished that morning (time TBD of course). I was surprised because no one gave me advanced notice—something the tech said should’ve been explained to me by Mike when scheduling the follow-up. Overall, minor frustrations. I should note that the inspector noted to the tech on multiple occasions (without me in the room, but I could hear him nonetheless) that the work was very well done. Total cost was $2050 for the base service +~$300 for extra grounding work +$80 for the follow-up.

The electricians were great. They walked me through the process of what would occur and gave me updates along the way. It didn't take as long as I was expecting and the electricians each worked on a part of the project to ensure timely completion.

The work went very well as planned. Work was very neat. I was called ahead of time with the expected time of arrival and Maurice and his crew arrived on time. He explained the activities. I appreciated that they took the time to label everything (some of the deals in the fine print exclude that step if the previous panel is not labelled clearly which was the case with mine). I also appreciated that they run the ground from the garage to the basement without punching any hole in the walls. They took care of all the communication with PEPCO and Montgomery county. I believe the coupon was a good deal. The extra work ended up being nearly as expensive due to the hourly rate. Overall it was a very good experience.
