It went great from the first phone call even though they were busy from the Angie's List deal. They got me a quote quickly and once I accepted it they performed the service with a couple of weeks.

We were very pleased with the work of Hometown Landscape. They were extremely polite and professional, and they worked with us to make sure that we were happy with the tree trimming. We had a little trouble scheduling the appointment, but in the end, we were happy with the results. We would certainly use them again.

Hometown did a great job at every stage, from arriving on time and providing a professional and candid estimate and recommendations for the tree pruning and crowning of several large, mature oaks in our and our neighbors' yards. Hometown also provided during the estimate visit some useful knowledge about oak trees, to educate us about our options and rationalize some of the anxiety we were feeling about the trees causing injury, death, and destruction if they fall. Hometown explained all the steps to minimize this risk, and they performed the work quickly and cleanly. The only sign of their work was the pruned trees; no limbs or branches laying in the yards. After the work was complete, and I discovered an invoicing error for a small amount - not in my favor - Hometown's staff quickly dispatched a refund check for that amount. Overall, this was a very cost-effective Big Deal!

Hometown did a good job of removing a tree. And the employees put a fence back up they had to take down, as well as cleaned up after themselves.
They provided me with a two week window during which the tree would be removed. That wasn't necessarily a problem for me, while I can see that kind of window might be problematic for somebody else. It would have been helpful had they called a day or so in advanced to notify me of the removal schedule. It happened I was home to help coordinate when they arrived unnanouced. Without
notification, I might not have been on site, which could have been a problem.
But, overall, the service was delivered satisfactorily. I would use them again.

The only concern I had was that they were switching offices at the time so the communication wasn't the greatest. I was surprised to see that they came out to the house without prior notification of a specific day and cut the tree down. We were given an estimate but there was never an actual date sent out. However, they did a great job when taking the tree down and cleaned up after themselves

Got them off Angie's List because of a coupon. They are local licensed insured and bonded and gave arnd the lowest bid (even w/o the coupon). They were scheduling 5 wks out and tried to delay it even further, even though I had a hanging dead limb. When finally came did a good job and threw in free instllation of recreational item.work. I would use again but wld push them on scheduling. .It amazes me how prices for the same job can vary among reputable companies, so it pays to shop if you are so inclined.

I purchased a cupon from Angie's List that advertised a substantial savings if I used Hometown Landscape & Lawn Service. A representatrive came out to assess the work that was required and provide an estimate for how much it would cost to do the job. The estimator arrived after the scheduled time, looked at the job and was pleasant. Although I asked for an immediate estimate , the estimator would not estimate the price when I was there to discuss it with him. Instead he said I would get an estimate in a few days and that happened. When I got the estimate, it seemed to me that Hometown Landscape & Lawn Service wanted an exhorbitant amount considering the amount of work that needed to be done. For that reason, I got a second estimate from John Ellis's tree trimming company (this company is not on Angie's List). The price from John Ellis was less than the price from Hometown Landscape & Lawn Service even including the Angie's List discount. John Ellis came out, gave the estimate and did the work immediately after giving the estimate. John Ellis did more work in less time and with less paper work than Hometown Landscape & Lawn Service. Angie's List refunded the money I spent for the cupon that was not used but was intended to contribute to the cost of the work that was initially offered to Hometown Landscape & Lawn. I was so pleased with John Ellis's work that after he did the tree trimming work, I had him clean the gutters and caulk the chimney flashing.

They first came to the house to see the trees needing trimming. Unfortunately, because we were also responding to an Angies List special, they were not going to be able to do the job for another six weeks, but we waited. They came while we were at work, and did a great job - cleaned up after themselves and left our trees looking great (no more branches over the roof!). My soon is an arborist and was very impressed with their attention to detail.

I was very pleased with the initial staff member who came to review the project. We discussed in detail the removal of the dying hemlock and the reason why it should be taken down--to provide more room for a flourishing tree nearby.
It took a very long time for the crew to schedule the work. I had to call the office several times and often didn't get a response back. Finally they arrived on the day scheduled. The crew that dug up and transplanted the 4 bushes did a great job. They were careful and thorough and fast. They did even more than called for, since they edged the new bed and mulched the entire bed, not just around the bushes.
The broken limbs were removed okay from the 4 trees. I had to ask them a second time to strip off dead English ivy from the trucks, which the staff member had assured me they would do. They missed a few dead or broken limbs, I discovered later. I was having other work done at my house that day and was not able to stand in the yard and watch the cutting down of the hemlock. When I did notice what was happening, I ran outside, horrified to discover that they had just made one cut to the large tree--at its base, so that it fell and destroyed the healthy three that we were protecting to begin with! About 3/4 of the healthy tree was broken off.
I immediately complained to the on-site staff for ruining the good tree, called the company to report this, and sent them in writing an email message. I immediately received a call. The company offered to replace the damaged tree with another comparable tree. Which they did. So they "made good" on their mistake. But I was very disturbed that their tree crew would be so incompetent that they would destroy a perfectly good tree while removing a dead one.
My "C" grade for their work is an average of an "A" for the shrub work and an "F" for tree removal, a "B" for limb removal, a "D" for responsiveness to calls for scheduling the work, and an "A" for responsiveness to their mistakes.

We called Hometown Landscape & Lawn Service after the derecho this summer to get an estimate for trimming our big tulip poplar. John came by within a few days to take a look at the tree. He was very knowledgeable and helpful, and we had a very reasonable proposal in hand shortly after. We scheduled our tree trimming for beginning of September (the delay was not the fault of the company!). On the day of tree trimming, the company arrived on time, the foreman came to the door and introduced himself. We asked what exactly he and his crew planned to do and how long it would take. He told us - and he was right on the money. They were done in exactly the time he had said and they did an absolutely fabulous job on the tree. My husband had been hesitant about getting the tree trimmed, but even he loved the beautiful job and the "new look" of the tree. And, most importantly, we did not have any big branches fall since the job was done!!!
The only complaint we had, and it is only minor, is that scheduling was a bit of a hassle. We had scheduled the appointment for beginning of September (no fixed date) and on the first attempt, the company called 2 h before their estimated arrival. Obviously, we could not arrange for someone to be at the house on such short notice. Rescheduling took a bit of back and forth with the office but ultimately we got an appointment with a day's notice. And as mentioned above, from there things went very smoothly and to our satisfaction. Overall, working with Hometown Landscape & Lawn Service was a pleasure and we will hire them again in the future.

We contacted Hometown after purchasing an Angie's List deal. They came out to perform an estimate for our work promptly and emailed a proposal within a day. We were told that there would be a delay in service due to residual clean up operations following the June storm, so the long gap after our acceptance of the proposal was not unexpected. What we were disappointed in was the inability of the company to give us a firm date, even after a month-long delay.
As it turned out, we never did receive a date in advance, but were sent an email the day they were to come informing us of the fact. Problem was, we were out of town. While this did not prevent them from doing the work, it did prevent us from being around to make sure things were done as we desired. We couldn't object to this procedure since we didn't receive the email until the work was completed.
The work was performed well and according to the proposal. Our only complaint was that some waste was left on the premises (in the woods behind the house). The estimator came out initially in September and after looking at the yard and talking with him we decided to do more than just a couple of trees. He marked removals with tape, and used spray paint for the trees to trim. The company's schedule was busy and so it was about 4-5 weeks before they could do the work. In the interim there was a bad wind storm and we decided that we needed to change the trees we were taking out - also, by then all the paint that marked for trimming was washed away. The estimator did come back out and re-priced what we needed to change, but did not have the materials with him to remark the trees (so none of the trees to trim were identified).
The crew came to do the work 2 days before thanksgiving and brought in a big crane to use in taking the trees out. I had been told the estimator would come in the AM to be sure the crew knew about what trees to remove/trim. Fortunately I was able to delay going to work that day and was here when the crew came because the estimator did not come and it was left to me to work with the crew chief - Shawn. The whole crew was great. The crane operator was here early & was very careful getting to the woods - he put down panels on the grass he had to back over so the lawn was protected. Shawn was very professional & helpful and worked with me to figure out which trees to do the work on. They cleaned up everything when they left and were done sooner than we expected.

He showed up and the service was great. It took about six to eight weeks for him to come out because there were so many trees down in the area. They never called to make an appointment to my home. One day, I received a bill from them in the mail. I sent them an email explaining that I would have appreciated them notifying me when they came to do the work. However, I thought I received a very good deal for the work performed. They did an outstanding job! They did such a good job with the cleanup work that I did not even know they came that day.

We were able to communicate effectively by email, which for me was a plus. They showed up at the end of the day unannounced, which was a little surprising (we had not set a firm date for services), but it was fine because the work was all external and required no assistance from me to access the work site.
They did the job quickly and cleaned up after themselves well. There was no residual mess. The team was friendly and very professional. They knew what they were doing and I would gladly have them back.

I purchased the Angie's List Big Deal and Hometown immediately contacted me to set up an estimate. They came out at the scheduled time, and the price was very reasonable. After I received the estimate I paid a deposit for half the amount (the total estimate was for $1200, but the Big Deal was $250 for $500 of work, so that left a remaining amount of $700) and expected to hear back on when they would come do the work, but there was no word from Hometown. Eventually I called and they said it would be about 3-4 weeks after received the deposit. Four weeks came and went, still no word from Hometown. Finally they came out about 5 weeks after the initial deposit, and they did a really good job. The yard was nice and clean after they finished, and grass has grown in over the stumps and dead tree!

They were wonderful. I really liked the fact that they came out and did what they were supposed to do. They cleaned up everything, so I didn't have to worry about anything when they left.
