This was a $99 big deal purchase for $200 worth of electrical service. The service was fine. It is just that I ended up paying more money. I think I paid about $69 extra. The thing was, it was $99 for $200 worth of electrical work. The guy was here less than an hour. I don't know how to put it; I don't know if it was a ripoff. The guy that they sent out here -- the service was fine. But I just thought having to pay more money than just install a light fixture. I had the light fixture and the old fixture had already been taken down because there was a ceiling fan there. They did not have to do any wiring or anything, it was already there ready for them. All they had to do was put the fixture in. I don't think it costs $200 to put in a light fixture. I thought it was overpriced. In the beginning the guy had sent me an email telling me another price, I think it was $300. He might have misunderstood what I was saying. The service from the guy they sent out to do the work was good. They showed up on time.
"We ill try to do a better job of explaining the specials to avoid the confusion in pricing."
"This is another example of not reading the offer in its entirety. This is a case of the exploding ceiling light. There really is no way to estimate how much time a project like this will take. I’m sure that this customer had other electricians look at it before coming across our coupon. Just as the coupons are paid in advance through Angie's list, we require work attacked to the coupon to be paid also because we dispatch licensed technicians out to the home for a specific period of time. When the day is scheduled, we can’t shuffle our other scheduled customers by saying were going to be late because..., or can we come early because... Unfortunately this customer wanted to pay by the minute and the second. The scope or resolution of the job was not the concern when writing this review. We corrected his light problem. However, there is no mention of that anywhere. "WOW!""
"You too nice. Its customers like you that make me want to go the extra mile to help but this job was more than and extra mile. I hope we can help you with something closer. keep us on speed dial."
On August 31, 2015 we hired City Renovations & Remodeling LLC to remove wallpaper and paint 2 baths, 1 bedroom and a kitchen and to completely remodel a bathroom downstairs.
We met with Mr. Michael Wiggs the owned and we gave him an overview on what we wanted done. Mr. Wiggs walked through every room with us and explain what the job would entail. We removed one room from the work order because of his suggestions. His suggestions saved us a lot of money.
What was done: Wall paper removed and walls painted in 2 bathrooms, the kitchen and a bedroom. After the wallpaper was removed the walls were sanded, primer was applied and painted. To remove wallpaper you need a person who is detail oriented and patient. Mr. Ronald the man from City Renovations who was assigned to do our work was detailed and patient. When I had questions and changes he was very polite and professional. I was here during the entire process. I could see all that was involved and how Mr. Ronald went through the process of making the walls smooth. Mr. Ronald also gave me suggestions on things he thought we should change.
Bathroom downstairs: The bathroom was demolished- Walls were removed and new walls installed. A new ceramic floor, a new vanity and bath accessories were installed and the entire room painted.
In addition, City Renovations and Remolding corrected a problem we had in our kitchen. We had a contractor install new appliances and a new floor in our kitchen. Part of the work done by the contractor was horrible. Mr. Wiggs gave us suggestions on what needed to be done and completed the work for us. We were pleased!!
The original work order included the rooms mentioned above (2 baths upstairs, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom downstairs) after looking at how Mr. Ronald repaired and painted the other rooms we added painting the Dining Room.
We are very pleased with all our rooms!! It looks like a new house!!
"This was a great experience. We really appreciated the opportunity to work with them. I wish her husband let me win a at least one pool game though."
"Thank-you for a greeat review. As a token of our great custoer service, go to our website www.cityrenovations.net and registet to get a free hour of handyman service with the purchase of one hour at half price. Thanx Again"
The timely repairs worked like a charm. All leaks were filled with a sealant both outside and on the inside of the porch
windows. Mr. Wiggs took the time to explain exactly what he was doing during the time he was making the repairs, and made me feel very confident that I would not experience any further problems with rain water seeping through my repaired window seals."I'm so sorry Mrs. [member name removed] feels that having a licensed plumber come over to her home to install a sub meter (a second water meter that requires a permit from the local water authority) to water her plant, on top of that to have the plumber run the new service line from the new shutoff valve in the basement through finished ceilings and walls of the home then attaching it to the water line for the sprinkler system outside. After all that is done,we needed to to repair and paint all the holes that needed to be made. All to water her quite expensive plants through her expensive pop up watering system. I was quite generous with the pricing with 1999.00 for all plumbing including the cost of he permit and inspections, no charge for the wall repair and painting because the customer offer more work. I guess i was not generous enough. We try hard, but we cant work for free."
The quality of the work was fine, but not exceptional. They did a decent job of cleaning up after themselves, but it wasn't spotless (inside was fine, I found plenty of material scraps in the backyard).
My biggest complaint was that once work began it felt like there was a lack of project management. This was a multi-day project, but there were some days where the workers left and it wasn't clear to me whether, or when, they planned to return. I had to call to find out; that communication probably should've been proactive. There were a couple times where it wasn't clear to me whether they thought the work was done.
The person doing the work was not the same person supervising. The supervisor clearly had multiple projects going on in multiple places, which is fine, but there were times it was clear I didn't have his whole focus. There were a couple instances where he didn't remember or mis-remembered conversations we had (the prescription of the water damage changed between visits), which I found troublesome.
I gave them a B, but it could easily have been a C. They're better than most other handyman services I've encountered, but that's not saying much. They are responsive and certainly make an effort to be helpful, even if I had to take initiative. I would probably use them as handymen for smaller projects, but the lack of project management I experienced would make me hesitate to use them for anything more involved.
"Even though the grade is good, the content is hurtful. As to project Mgt. It was only a door installation. Hardly worth project Mgt. as would a new bathroom or kitchen. I addressed the water issues, I, like them was quite optimistic after talking to them in thinking they would resolve the issue. I wont address the quality of work. I spoke to the husband and he was quite pleased, I didn't et any complaints and was paid in full. What I will address is the debris. Yes, we left construction material under the back porch, because she wanted to dry the wall before wen fixed it. We actually lost money because of the number of times we had to start and stop the job very small job because they were undecided and waffling. I even left my personal heater with them to dry the wall. As soon as we finished we removed the excess building material. Had she been involved, it would have been crystal clear as to whether the job was done. But my conversations was with her husband. As to conversations, I try to tell all my customers to send me an email of things that concern them but to no avail, I was stampeded with a new estimate request every time I visited the job. New concrete steps, new waterproofing on the foundation wall, new concrete under the water tower, new brick work, new vents in the wall, I did become confused. And she said I was hardly involved. WOW!. through all that, nothing new was purchased. Again, the content maters most. I wonder what the next review will be or if there will be a review when they called me at 8am to replace a breaker in the panel. The anxiety is killing me."
The owner was very friendly and helpful, providing insightful information about other projects I am contemplating. I would have rated them an A, however, they arrived 30 minutes late without calling me which is unprofessional. All said and done, I would use them again because the work was completed to my satisfaction.
"I'm sorry our verbal quote could not meet your needs I sincerely hope you get the job you want at the price you want it. If you want us to reconsider, please call us again"
no comment.
"We did all that was requested. I have no idea why the review score is so low, but we will reach out to see what we could have done better. This was great customer."
