Dealing with S&K was the most mind-boggling outrageously rude customer interaction I think I have ever had with a company. Having called to get an estimate 5 business days ago I was told that Shane would contact me regarding requested repairs but that he was on vacation. When stating I did not wish to wait for Shane's return and would speak to anyone who was available was told that I would get a return call within 2 business days. On the 5th business day I had not received a return call so called back. I was told Shane was on vacation and that he just got back and I could call him to see where I stood in his queue. When I said that was unacceptable I was hung up on and got a return call in 10 minutes. That person identified themselves only as 'Charlie' without a last name or title or anything, just that he was with S&K and that they wouldn't help me and then hung up. I don't know if this Charlie is the Director of Sales listed on the website but it takes a lot of nerve for a company to basically tell a customer (repeat I might add) to screw off. Don't tell me the economy is bad and then treat a customer like dirt. You will not have customers for long if this is the way they are treated. S&K would now need to pay me to work on my house.

"This customer posted these exact same comments on our website. What he left off of this posting was his promise to trash our company whenever he had the chance, which we have on record. His recollection of our encounter and the truth are two different things. This customer was not hung up on by anyone in our company. While he was in fact a repeat customer, our internal notes indicated in 2010 that he had said he would never bother wasting his time with our company again as we were unable to accomodate his schedule. When he called in again in 2011 we were willing to give it another go. After his verbal berating of our receptionist and his insistance on getting a call back right away, I called him 10 minutes later. During that 10 minutes I spoke with our receptionist who was visibly shaken. She said that after a full 5 minutes of abuse and his refusal to listen to our explanation as to why he had not been contacted, this customer hung up on her. I then called and spoke to him for all of 30 seconds. I told him that unfortunately we were not going to be able to work with him. His response was "OK". I said "Thank you, goodbye". Thats it. It is unfortunate that there are times when Angie's List can become a tool for someone's personal negative agenda, but that is the case here. We stand behind our customer service and we refuse to be bullied by this repeat offender. We have been in business for 31 years and we wouldn't have lasted 31 days if we treated customers the way that this customer describes. They were higher than some other people that I could have gotten but I felt safe that they weren't fly-by-night. They did a great job. There was an issue with a noise and it didn't seal down. They came back and it made sense what they told me because they did the work while it was winter. The howling around the skylight has stopped so that means that it has finally sealed down. They have been nothing but helpful. They were really great to work with. I was very worried about what skylights they were going to use and I was nothing but assured that they would use really good ones and they did. My roof is attached straight across my next-door neighbor's townhouse and there were people that wouldn't even consider giving me an offer. They matched it perfectly. I cannot tell that I have a new roof. There is no division and it looks beautiful. We had a terrible windstorm right after they did it and some of the shingles actually came off because they hadn't had any chance to have any sun on them and seal down. They came right out and took care of that. They did an absolutely beautiful job. Their price was high but it wasn't over the top high. There were people that were higher and a lot more people that were cheaper but what they were going to use on my roof didn't satisfy me. It was more inferior stuff.

Everything was satisfactory except for the windows. In a recent heavy rain storm with strong winds, 6 of the 9 windows leaked including one in which water ran inside the walls and came out from the top of the two sliding glass doors. To the company's credit, they came out immediately and rewrapped all of the windows and kitchen sliding door. Sheetrock repairs were not fully completed and I had to not only fix that but do all of the painting myself. I found out from one of the repaiman that the window installer had been fired some time after my installion in August 2009. Just my luck.

Based on the above description, we would never request another estimate from this company. We were disappointed, especially in light of the favorable reports we read on Angie's List about this company.

"We met with the husband and never met the wife. Our estimator was informed by the husband what he wanted, which was a repair using home owner supplied materials. Our opinion was not solicited, husband was very clear about what he wanted. Customer was provided a written estimate which we have on file. This homeowner resides in a home that we have done repairs on since 2002 for the previous owners with no complaints. I think we have a situation where the husband and wife did not communicate with each other regarding our offering."

I think we’ve seen their signs up in the neighborhood and also I had looked them up on Angie’s list, and their ratings were okay. They were able to match up what we currently had on the house and their price was competitive. I didn’t spend a lot of time on the roofing with them. Everybody uses the same shingle and they were only doing a section that was twenty by thirty. They were competitive and they’ve been around a little while, so that’s why I went with them. I was not here when they came and did the work. I didn’t interact with them but the whole product was good. I would use their services again in the future.

After calling around, and taking into account both availability and price, S & K came out on top. They promised a maximum turnaround of 72 hours, but came out within four hours of the call, which was a godsend because of the thunderstorm predicted for that night. The technician was courteous, quiet, and knew his business, and finished the repair with no fuss. We would definitely consider this company for a future roof installation.

They did a good job, but found out that, they didn?t use the standard weight scale of 30 pounds, instead use 15 pounds. I didn?t realize the same until I saw the contract later. I have 3 vents in the attic and they said they had to put in soffit vents. Later, I called them, to say that the roof looks uneven and they said it was fine. I do not wish to use their services in future.

The estimater came to my house and went up on my roof twice before talking to me about the job. I was impressed that he took the extra effort to really understand the job. The job was expected to last one day but due to weather related delays and skylight issues, lasted three days over the course of a week. The workers were very good except that they brought two of the incorrect size skylights. at the end of the job they did remove most of the debris though I still find small pieces of flashing in my bushes. One item of note is that after the job was completed, I noticed that one of my skylights did not lie flat on the roof as seen from inside the house. The technicians came out three times to correct this until we finally realized that the issue was that my roof was not flat. We placed the skylight in a position so now only I can see that it is not flat.

The salesman was great. I asked him many questions and he always responded promptly. He took my calls and email whenever I sent them. He facilitated any kinds of issues that may have come up. I love the way my house looks and I wish I would have gotten this service done years ago. All of the office workers were great. They had a wonderful showroom and provided me with plenty of real samples.

Great! We got estimates from 2 other companies. When Don Katzenberger came out to take a look he pointed out the different characteristics of the window that would affect the price. He really helped us pick the right windows at the right price. They are very responsive and pleasant! They did the work in a timely manner and did a great job!

They actually came and gave me an estimate. Most companies around here take forever to do that. Most of the work was okay. The work that was not, they came back and fixed. I found another roofing company I like better so I will probably not use S&K again. Had I not found someone else, I would use them again if needed.

S&K provided clear estimates, made timely adjustments as we refined what we wanted and needed. Work was performed quickly and efficiently. Cleanup was very good. We noticed a leaking skylight, and they came out immediately to adjust it. They were very professional and thorough.

Salesman told me 'I'm not going to beg you for your business'.....need I say more about the customer service?! After patiently waiting 3WEEKs for update on my installation date to replace my Leaking roof, I phoned company. Very rudely, I was told that they were still waiting for material. I tried to explain that I was promised 2-3 wks for installation w/a phone call 1 1/2 wks out to set up date. Again, very rudely I was told that time frame was 3-4 wks and you get phone call a couple of days in advance. I was also waiting for update on contract. I was promised a 250coupon and a 5yr warranty. Initially, Salesman told me to write it in and it would be binding. (really?! Can I just write in anything?! I was very skeptical that a handwritten edit on contract would be binding. When I inquired about this at office ,of course they had No record of this. I said I was frustrated with this experience and wanted to cancel.To which they replied 'Okay'..When I called salesman he replied 'not going to beg for your job'. I had hoped, after waiting three weeks and giving a deposit, that this company would've honored their end by expediting my job since my roof is leaking badly. And by professionally updating the contract as promised not w/me handwriting in. Clearly this company takes money and makes promises they have No intention of keeping. They never even tried to correct this, simply agreeing when I said I wanted to cancel. Bottom line- if you want to spend $8000 and get timely service executed at your expectations -S and K is Not the company you should use. They obviously have too much to handle and aren't interested in keeping commitments. Once again the statement 'not going to beg for your business' says it all. Mr Moore and Mr Katzenberg, Nobody expected you to 'beg'..just keep the promise of the warranty, discount, and roof replacement I was promised and patiently waiting for...I also forgot to mention that because I had a nasty leak Mr Moore promised a rush on services which of course, the office had no or at least claimed to have no knowledge of this promise either!

The scheduling was a bit difficult and seemed to be done when i called them. The crew was professional, efficient, and friendly. The contract called for all nails to be removed from worksite but we found over 20 nails the next day (the crew did finish rather late in the day though so difficult to see) but i called and a few individuals came back the next day to re-clean the site. The gutters were done about 2 weeks after the roof was done and they look good. Overall we are satisfied with the work but the crew installed items not in the contract (roof vent on house and gutters on shed) but we were not charged for the extra work.

Job went OK - It took quite a while to get an accurate price quote. There were mistakes on the first two and very little detail about the work to be done. When I called to ask questions about the work I was assured that detailed notes were taken by the person who came out and looked at the job for the estimate. Gutter install was done quickly after a deposit was sent in - originally told it would be 2-3 weeks but they came out in about 10 days and gutters were done. For the roof job I was told they would not be able to do the job for 3-4 weeks but they came out in 2 weeks. Roof was to take only one day - unfortunately they did not have the right supplies to complete the job. Correct nails were not delivered with the supplies and the wrong color drip edge was installed. They did not realize this until the old shingles were removed and the job was well underway, but since it was Saturday they were not able to get the correct materials. They told me they would need to come on Monday to complete the work. So far they have not done much a job cleaning up but I will wait till monday to see what happens

All my phone calls were promptly returned by the service rep. The main office was courteous. The day of the job, I did have a concern and the site manager was quick to return my call. The lead worker for my roof was polite and cleaned the area pretty well. There was a slight language barrier, but once I spoke to the site manager, all concerns were cleared up. I received a follow up call the next business day.
