Let me begin this by saying I must share some of the blame for this but so does Action Carpet I did not get any competitive bids for this work and there lies the problem. Action Carpet charged me a total of $14,708 for the two jobs- $11,270 for the carpet and $3,062 for the bathroom retiling. Tell you how I know I was overcharged. There was a proposal submitted by Action Carpet to tile my kitchen. The proposal was for $12,227 for tiles and installation. Fortunately for us Action Carpet did not have any tiling samples we liked so we went to Kent Island Carpet. Their price was $4,400!!!! That's close to 3 times the amount Action Carpet wanted. Naturally we went to Kent Island Carpet and they did a great job. Also, when the tilers tore up the bathroom floors, they did not reinstall the backer boards and grout properly. Adam West, owner of Action carpet, refused to correct the problem. We had to call back the painters to re-paint and re-grout.
I have filed a complaint with the Attorney General's Office, Consumer Protection. Also a complaint with the Maryland Home Improvement Commission. To be continued. I have documentation for everything.
