Nu Look Roofing, Siding, and Windows

We had Nu Look Home Design come to our home to give us an estimate on a new roof. A young man showed up in a suit and tie with his briefcase of materials. It didn't look like this guy had ever stepped foot on a job site. He never went on the roof and barely looked at it from the ground. How can you give someone an estimate on a project without inspecting it? After a good old-fashioned sales pitch, his estimate was about $5,000 over the next highest bidder. We never even considered using them and definitely will not be having them bid for future projects. A larger company with high prices relying on their size/advertising versus quality of work.

It was all about the hard sell and it was not a pleasant experience.

Nu Look was punctual and professional. Their salesman was helpful and informative about the different kinds of roofing materials available. However, there prices were not competitive. Their standard asphalt shingle roof price discounted 50% was $2500 more than the architectural shingle roof we eventually had installed by another company. They probably to do fine job but if you are looking for the best value for your money this is not the company you want to do your installation.

We heard about them on Shine FM radio, and I believe that advertisers have to go through a clearance process to get on the show. We invited them out to make a presentation. The sales person was knowledgeable, and of course, he was trying to sell a product. Over the years we replaced siding and windows so we knew basically what to expect. He was not high pressure, but we did the usual dance and arrived at a price that I felt was very fair.
The set up for installation was handled very quickly, and the crew arrived yesterday. The crew had 7 people. They went to work very quickly and efficiently (all materials were delivered the day before - the delivery truck had a crane attachment so the materials were already on the roof.) Within one day they removed the old roof, replaced some of the plywood that needed replacing (showed it to my husband for our agreement), put on the new roof, and cleaned up. There was nothing! on the ground that was left behind. You could not even tell that people had worked on the house until you looked up at the roof. It looks great, and I would definitely use the company again.

At 7am, six very hard working men arrived at my house, and within 6 hours, my new roof was completed. The shrubbery and plants around my house were shielded and no loose material was found on the ground afterwards—the crew did a great clean-up job.
I chose the Energy Star endorsed “Shasta White” shingles for my white brick house and am very pleased with the roof. Unlike a dark roof that would absorb heat, this lighter color helps reflect the heat. I’m hoping to see the energy savings in the long term. Several neighbors have commented on how nice the new roof looks!

Everything went right on schedule from the initial appointment with Tom Adams, who provided us with an excellent presentation of the roofing products and the available options, to Luis and his crew who arrived right on time at our home at 7:00 AM. They proceeded to remove the old roof, and by 1:00PM the new roof had been installed and everything had been cleaned up. They even swept the walk around our house. Luis and I did a walk around the house to make sure there was no debris remaining.
We have a lifetime warranty on our new roof, and it's transferable. We had the Owens/Corning Architectural True Definition shingles installed and they look great.Nu Look Home Design did everything they said they would, and when they said they would. Everyone we worked with was knowledgeable and professional, and I would definitely recommend Nu Look Home Deisgn to anyone looking to replace their roof.
I had initially received an estimate from another roofing contractor and Nu Look Home Design's price came in about $3,500.00 under the other contractor's price. I liked that.

I had used this company in 2007 to replace my roof. In doing a recent renovation I noticed that there was a leak. I contacted the company to inform them of the issue. Unlike my previous experience they were very responsive and had someone out to try to fix the issue. After it rained the next day I realized that the leak was still present. I again called and they sent out someone again the next day to address the problem. So far I have no issue with the roof.
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at the vast difference in customer service and how promptly they addressed the issue.They also followed up with me to see if all was still well. Compared to my last experience I will say that this company has done a good job in improving these two very important areas of their business.

Their pricing was competitive with other similar vendors in the area and their sales force was excellent in providing us with pricing options. Everyone was professional and courteous. The house had a very old roof and the last work done on it was over 20 years ago and was suspect at best. They did a good job in preparing us for some of the and quot;unexpectedsand quot; (rotted wood, etc.) and were very upfront about how it would be priced out if the work was needed. After signing a contract they kept us updated on the timeline and showed up as expected. The morning of the job there was an issue with the color of the roofing shingles matching the membrane material that we were going to have to use for an almost flat porch roof. The issue was handled quickly and the crew working was incredible -- 6 guys led by Richard worked from 7:30 am until 7:30 pm and got the entire job completed in one day. The work was of very high quality, the yard cleaned up, and they spent time explaining how the work was done and how this would prevent leaks in the future. We couldn't be happier with the final product!

The owner has been very agreeable with me. He calls to check in on the windows, and we were able to work through some issues we were having. I will be having them come back for more work in the future. This company is very hands on, if there is any problem they come right out to look into it. The owner himself is very personable, and professional. The owner came back out to put up some blinds that they had forgotten to hang back up.

Well. Was told that I didn't need to be home, but I was very much needed. The last inspection before work is performed should include things that need to be done before workers arrive. The workers were courteous and apologetic that they had to call for me.

They really worked with me on the price. I had another estimate from a different company for $34,000. That was just ridiculous. I had Nu look home design come in. I am very very satisfied with the work. When the supplier for this company brought the materials in, they happened to damage a gutter. Nu Look sent the pictures to the supplier, within a day, they were back here to repair it. Cleanup, everything was great. I am kind of a picky person, and I was very satisfied with the customer service.

Other than the marketing techniques used, we were very happy dealing with Nu Look personnel including sales project manager and site crew. The roofing job went very well. The construction crew showed up on time and went right to work. I could not ask for a better crew. There was considerable water damage to the existing roof that required quite a bit of reconstruction. This was handled very expediently without any delay to schedule. They were very professional throughout the entire project. There was one hiccup during the project where the wrong soffit was delivered. It took a few hours to resolve the error and get the right soffit. The project was supposed to take two days and it actually took two and a half days. All things considered with the amount of repair and reconstruction that had to be done and correcting the error of the wrong soffit being delivered, we were very pleased with the crew on site. They even did an excellent job of site clean up after the work was completed.

The salesman Steve was very professional and discussed all the options available. My wife and I decided to choose the Owens Corning Roof System which is backed by a Lifetime Warranty for our single-Family Detached Home.. The office and install crew were very polite and the work was performed according to schedule.

They are very wonderful. They were very courteous and nice. They went through the entire process with us and they went over everything visually on the computer. The technician was very nice to myself and my father.

It was fantastic from beginning to end. The salesman was great, and the installers did an excellent job as well.

It was a good experience from start to finish. The salesman was very nice, the product was great, and the installation crew did a wonderful job. They actually worked 12-hour shifts and paid tremendous attention to detail. Furthermore, the clean up was outstanding, and it was as if they had never been there.

They were very nice, but the price seemed ridiculously high in comparison to other companies.

They did a good job with the roof. However, they used high pressure sales tactics, and it was difficult to work with them in general. Their initial price was quite high, but they lowered it once I accepted estimates from other companies. I wouldn't deal with the company again because of these issues.

They did an excellent job. The windows were $7,000 and the capping was $1,000. They were great and on time. They communicated very well. They have a good product. They were excellent. We would give them 5 stars.

I contacted the owner because the person that came out originally was being a bit pushy. Once I talked to the owner, who is very involved in the customer service, the problem was corrected promptly.

They came out fixed the screens and reset a couple of windows. The owner told me that if I wasn't happy, they weren't finished.

The install seemed to go ok on 12/06/11, but I wasn't paying as close attention as I should have. They used neither shims or levels during the install that I remember. The first problem that I noticed was that the doors didn't close properly at the top(the normally opened door was out about 1/8 to 1/4and quot; from the usually stationary door. They claim to and quot;work around your scheduleand quot;, however if you're not home during the weekday they act put off when you tell them you can be home by 4-4:30pm. They didn't attempt to get the first problem resolved until 12/27 or 12/28 and that was only because I called and asked to talk to someone in charge. Tom, the owner, assured me that they'd fix it as soon as possible and he'd call me within a week to make sure it got resolved(I initially talked to him approximately the week before Christmas. He never called back. They made a half-hearted attempt at aligning the door on 12/28, I wasn't happy but decided I might be able to live with it.

The next problem I noticed was a large(2and quot; across) gap on the outside of the house at the top of the door where the two doors meet. All the hinges on the door were also showing signs of rust, as well the strike plate where the right side door's' pin engages was also rusting. I contacted Justin in the installation department in early January about this and he said he'd get in touch with the door manufacturer to get this resolved. About a week went by and I received a voicemail saying that the company needed pictures of the hinges. I returned Justin's call later in the day telling him when I'd be available(after 4pm) and to please give me a call back to confirm a time to get the pictures taken. A week went by and I got fed up with waiting to be called back and talked to Justin again who acted as if it was no big deal that he didn't call me and he came by the next day and took pictures(still early January).

The door company agreed to send someone out to replace the rusted parts after they eventually got them in(in March). A representative from a service company for the door manufacturer (so I was told) stopped by in the second week of March to replace the parts. He looked at the door and said it wasn't installed correctly and the install should be corrected first before replacing the parts. This was when we took a four foot level and placed it at various parts of the door to really see how bad out of alignment the installation was. The top of the frame was bowed out toward the roof about 1/4and quot; at that time. The top of the door frame is out from vertical about 3/8 to 1/2and quot;(over the length of the level) to the inside of my house. The representative said he would talk to Nu Look and try get this resolved and then replace the rusting hinges.

At least three weeks later and I still hadn't heard anything back so I had my wife call since she was home at the time. She talked to Tom who came out to check out the problems with the door. Tom had the original installers come out with him about a week later to try fix the door. They managed to get the doors to line up correctly, but this was when I realized they didn't use any shims installing the door. There is approximately 1/8and quot;-1/4and quot; of air between the edge of the door frame on the right side and the stud on the wall. They refused to fix the level problem at that time saying they were afraid to damage the door and left.

I called Tom on 4/20/12 to try to get him to resolve the situation and he said he'd contact the installer about what to do and get back to me. As of 4/24/12 I have heard nothing. After over four months I've had enough.

On 5-3-12 the installers stopped by to fix the install. They started by removing the trim, adding strips of insulation and adding shims. After expressing my concern that the door frame needed to be leveled first, I was ridiculed and was told that you needed to make sure the reveal around the doors is even and that the doors line up and that's all that matters - Leveling the frame of the door doesn't matter and he doesn't care about the bubble on a level. Shims were also unnecessary because the door wasn't going anywhere since it had three screws going into the studs on either side. Checking the ProVia installation instructions for an entry door, you need to make sure that the opening is plumb and level, and also use shims. Tom eventually showed up, but by that point I had had enough. I expressed my concerns to Tom and after they finished shimming behind the hinges I had them leave. The installer was still adamant that you don't need to shim or level the door and I didn't want him doing any more work on my house.

The and quot;green shirt guyand quot; (who didn't wear a green shirt) shows up on time but brought nothing with him.... no samples, no tape measure. He spent about 10 minutes looking at the outside of the house. He then wants to set up another appoinmentt when he will bring the samples etc. What a waste of my time.

Why did he even show up? You don't get a second chance to make a first impression. Every other siding company rep was ready to go the moment they walked through my door. and within an hour I knew all my options.... no need to waste any more time with Nu Look.
