The estimate was given quickly, I was able to make an appointment within a week and they completed the project in less than 24 hours. Price was about $13/sq foot. Doug was great to work with, as well as Jon and his son who built the fence. The quality and construction was excellent and I would highly recommend FBD fencing!
Description of Work: I had a 3-rail, 48" high fence with black mesh wire, with 4 gates in my backyard (approx 7,000) sq ft lot. It included a custom-made, double gate (hung on a large beam) at the front of the house.

FBD Fence put in our fence years ago. It has held up beautifully. And, once when he was working on a job in our neighborhood years later, I found him just putting a few more nails in the fence. Talk about service! He cares about his work and does it right the first time. Highly recommend this company.

FBD was quick to come out for an estimate. We picked this company because the owner was the only one out of yhe many fence companies who made some recommendations regarding materials, style and layout that would suit the needs of our yard and family. FBF's recommendations helped to ensure that our fence lasts. Their materials are high quality and FBF was prompt in sending a group of guys to install the fence. FBD was able to get most of the fence up in one day. He takes pride in his work and makes sure that everyone is satisfied.

I can't think of any aspect of this project that could have gone better.
Description of Work: The fence was complete less than a week after we accepted Doug's estimate. He communicates well, he and his team (John and Tim) are punctual, friendly, courteous, and built us a fence that exceeded our expectations. I can't recommend them highly enough. FBD was the highest of the three bids we received, but we went with them based on the strong ranking here. I'm glad we did. Doug showed how the construction would be done, why it's done that way, and discussed a couple of things the terrain forced us into choices on so I was completely satisfied with the resolution.

Doug was a pleasure to work with on our fence. He was able to meet quickly to go over what we wanted and provide an estimate. The price was very reasonable given the high quality materials and build approach used. We needed to have our side of the property line cleared of trees and shrubbery. Doug recommended a great tree company named Dunn and Sons. Chuck from Dunn and Sons gave a quick, reasonable estimate and was able to perform the work within a couple of days. Doug came out the day the tree guys were clearing the property line and put in the corner posts. Doug and rest of the team came out early the next morning and they had built the entire fence by early afternoon ahead of schedule. FBD exceeded my expectations in every way on this job. I highly recommend both FBD and Dunn and Sons.
Description of Work: We had a fence built for our backyard up to the middle of the sides of the house. A gate was built on each side of the house. The fence is a 48" dog-ear picket fence. I really like that FBD builds the fence on-site instead of using pre-fab fence panels.

Provided the story above and can't cut/paste to put it here but I don't hesitate to recommend them to others. Got estimate late Sat PM, ordered it then, Miss Utility came about Tues when Doug came to mark the fence and talk about final arrangements. Parts delivered Thursday, Fence started Friday, finished Sat. Very easy for the purchaser (me). Reliable, did what they said they would do.
Description of Work: FBD fence built approximately 175 feet of 3-rail fencing with three gates in my Columbia lot. They knew what was required and did the job quickly. The price was very fair. Doug came just a few days after first contact, gave me an estimate, which I accepted on the spot and the fence was completed less than one week later. I am very satisfied with price, schedule, responsiveness and product. Doug made some good suggestions and listened to what I want. Thus, I have no hesitation in recommending them. I also found that the fence did not cost very much more than I had estimated with me buying the parts and doing the work.

Very satisfied with the experience. Estimate was friendly, prompt, detailed, and no pressure. The process moved fast after we said yes, and Doug kept us in the loop via email. Job was done, soup to nuts,in a single day. Very good work, and the team was careful not to damage the lawn or the shrubs around the fence. Price was very fair in comparison to other estimates. We will use them with any future fencing need.

The owner, Doug came out on time and did the work in a timely manner. At no extra charge he worked on a fence gate that had become stuck over time. He also gave me a competitive quote for some more work on another part of the fence as well as gave me a recommendation of another contractor to perform some work that his company does not do.
Description of Work: FBD had installed a 3 rail fence at our house about 11 years ago. A tree outside of our property had fallen during a sorm in the summer. FBD came out and restored the fence in the broken area with new materials.

Doug was prompt, courteous, fairly priced and inspired more confidence than the others I got estimates from. The completed sections looked great, but I only fully appreciated it when my neighbor, without informing me, hired another company to replace her entire fence. The other fence is rough, not smooth like Doug's, just doesn't look nearly as good, and I can lean my entire body weight against his fence with no movement, whereas I can get the other fence to wobble using just my hand.
Description of Work: 2 sections of the fence between my townhouse and my neighbor's were falling down, and they have 4 dogs in their yard, She said she couldn't afford a new fence then, so I knew I'd have to go it alone and only replace the two worst. Doug told me that replacing only two sections would be more expensive for that part than if the job was bigger, since overhead and time would be proportionally larger.

I can't say enough good things about Doug. He did a great job and was great to deal with. He even was able to recommend a tree guy and a surveyor who were both also very good and reasonable in price. My only slight nitpick is that there is no one to answer his main number so you are forced to leave a message. That is very minor, considering the excellent job his crew did and the additional help he provided in recommending quality, reasonably priced contractors for the additional work that was needed. Good person, good work, good price.

I found the company via Angie's list. I had previously used Long Fence, but I wanted to see if there was a company that was not quite so large and that did not sub-contract the work. I visited the FBD web site and left detailed contact information. The owner, Doug DePasse, called me that evening to try to schedule an appointment. I was not at home when he called, but I was able to reach him once I arrived. I explained to him briefly what I wanted, and we scheduled an appointment for the following Sunday. On Saturday afternoon, he said he was fairly close to my house, and wanted to know if we could meet later that afternoon. We were agreeable and he arrived around 5:00pm. He took some measurements, marked of a few areas where gates were to be placed, and he wrote the estimate. During the initial visit, I discovered a few things. FBD is an acronym for "Fences By Doug," Doug told me that he is a small company by choice and he enjoys dealing directly with his clientele. That was perfect for me since my job was fairly small anyway. The estimate is what I actually paid and included the cost of disposal of around 300 feet of fencing and posts. A few days after the estimate, I emailed Doug to see when we might be able to get started. He said he was about a week out, so we set a date for the following Wednesday. Saturday before the job, Doug brought a few posts and boards and left them. He also told me that I could expect the rest of the materials to be delivered the fiollowing Tuesday. The materials came late in the morning on Tuesday as I was painting. That same day, Doug called to make sure that Wednesday was still ok, and he said he wanted to come by if it was ok to make a few final markings and to make sure his work crew had a clear path to build. While he was there, I asked him if he could help me with an issue regarding a metal post. I had put this post in the ground to hold som landscape timber in place by my deck steps. I removed the timbers, but a large tree root had grown over the post flange, and I could not pul it up. I could move it side to side, but that was it. Doug's solution was to cut the post off below grade and fill in the hole. I went to get a leaf blower out of my shed, and when I walked back to where the post was, it was gone. I thanked him and he said it was no problem. He left a little before dark, and his crew arrived on Wednesday morning before 8:00. They finished everything that afternoon., and Doug contacted me to see if he could come by to inspect the work and pick up his money. He did not ask for a deposit and told me he preferred to simply get paid when the job was finished. When he went by the house, my wife was there and she spoke with him briefly. She wrote him a check and he left. During the times I spent with Doug, I realized that he was an honest, hard working individual who could kid around with you, but he was dead serious about his business. He showed me ways to save money and also gave me care and maintenance tips.He used almost all number 1 lumber, which no contractor has ever done, and the quality of the new fence is well above what I had before. My old fence was built with number 2 lumber and many of the slats had warped. The old fence posts were joined by two 2x4 boards, and the slats were nailed to them. The hardware on the gates were single latch where the same piece that opened the gate also secured it when it was closed. The anchor posts wer actually boards that were nailed into my block foundation and ther was some minor chipping. FBD took care of all of that. The materials were better from the start, and the fence posts are now joined by three boards with slats nailed at the top, middle, and bottom. This will mitigate against slat warpage and also makes the fence sturdier. I have handles which I can use to open the gates, and the closeure catches are separate from them. There is also a top latch on both of them I can use to lock the gates. There ar no actual anchor posts. The end post are away from the house about a foot, and the boards and slats are simply attached as they run up against the wall without penetrating anything. All in all, I am happy to have found this company. The owner is congenial, knowledgeable, and punctual. The pricing is fair and the quality and workmanship are superb. He did call me later to see if I was happy with the job, and I let him know pretty much what I have expressed here. He said his business is picking up, and I think I can see why.
Description of Work: I had an older fence which encompassed my entire back yard. We realized that we did not need as much fence, so we decided to construct a new, smaller fence, and get rid of the old fence.

Our experience with Doug was nothing but wonderful from start to finish. From his first visit on he was fully involved, calling us often with great ideas and patiently enduring the changes that we made to the chosen design along the way. When we called him the day before work was to start rethinking the entire plan he didn't bat an eyelash - just walked us through the decision making process and put in the resulting new wood order. When a land survey turned up an additional amount of property that would need to be cleared before the new fence was put up, he was also able to put us in touch with a wonderful tree service, Dunn & Sons, who got the work done quickly and at a very reasonable cost. When a neighbor known for making the lives of those around him difficult showed signs of resistance to this project, Doug turned up the charm and turned him into an ally. He worked closely and tirelessly with us to take out the awful old fence that surrounded our backyard and replace it with the most gorgeous 6 foot solid wood fence I've ever seen. He also knew far more than just the aesthetics and mechanics of fence building. He knew what code required down to the last detail like the back of his hand and was able to advise us every step of the way on the best decisions to make to properly enclose the pool in our backyard. I could go on and on about how perfect our experience with Doug and his team was. In fact, my only complaint is that they finished too quickly -- we miss having him around!!

Doug was great! His guys were very considerate and respectful to me and my wife. Doug did everything he said he would do from showing up on time to doing the job as we agreed to do. The job was done on-time and they asked us how we wanted some things done when issues arose that we did not discuss. I would recommend them to any one and is I have any future fencing needs, I will definitely call Doug.

As I said clearly above, the job went well, and I'd be happy to hire FBD Fence services again.
Description of Work: Two years earlier, Doug had worked on erecting a wood fence around most of my back yard. At that time, he did a great job from the points of views of service and professionalism. I liked him enough to hire him for a small job to fence in part of my parking pad. AGAIN, he was resonsive, punctual, gave an honest estimate and competed the work in a very short amount of time. Although this was a very small job, he took it very seriously and got everything done well. I highly recommend Doug and FBD Fence for anyone in the area. I also hope to use him again in the future, if the need arises.

We found them on Angie's List. They didn't do driveway gates, but they did a double gate for us to be able to pull a vehicle into the backyard. They were on time, quick, and very professional. Doug responded almost immediately and we set up an appointment for him to take a look at the job. He came prepared with two new rails and extra wire fencing if we should happen to need that as well. He did the job on the spot and we were able to salvage the existing wiring. Doug was very polite and professional. i would highly recommend him to anyone needing fencing services. We will definitely call him back again if more repairs are ever needed for our fence.
Description of Work: A rather large, rotten limb fell from one of our big trees and landed on our split-rail fence in mid-October. It damaged two of the rails so they needed to be replaced. Doug was prompt for the estimate, and he is thorough and quite knowledgeable. He gave us several good ideas, such as making one gate larger so grass cutting equipment could fit thru it. He also helped us decide where to place the rear fence -- he suggetsed we move if farther back up a hillside, and he was right! The crew arrived promptly, a father / son team who worked well together. Good results, good clean-up. Doug later came by the check it & see if we were pleased, which we were. The materials are very nice, and the gates are sturdy & of a much higher quality than most that you see. The made sure that the wire fencing overlay covered every knook & cranny. A little pricey, but worth the exceptional workmanship. The crew also kindly helped repair a broken gate on our deck, no charge. I had a lot of confidence that Doug knew his stuff, and he does. I highly recommend FBD.

Doug was wonderful. I left him a message on his voicemail and he called back promptly. He actually came to my house and did an estimate for me while I was at work (this is what I wanted him to do). After he provided the estimate, he came to my house and walked through the yard with me. He brought a sample of the fencing material that he'd be using for this project. I had a few issues with my yard. First, since the original fence was 40 years old, one of my trees had completely grown over it. It was also in the center of my property line. Doug gave me a couple different options regarding how to deal with it (still within the price quoted) and even agreed to come back and change to another option (for free) if I did not like how that section of the fence turned out. The second issue also dealt with a tree on my property line. Doug again suggested three different options and suggested that I speak to my neighbor to decide which one I ought to pursue. It was very helpful to have this assistance--this is the first time I've replaced a fence and I appreciated having someone navigate me through the process. I love the finished product. The fence is really lovely and is exactly what I wanted. One note: I rated the price as good, only because I did not get another estimate, so I don't have anything to compare it to. I thought the product was well worth the price that I paid. For all I know, the price is excellent--I just did not want to give a reader bad advice. So, take the pricing advice with that caveat.

The fence is great--far exceeds our expectations, especially in the area that required a curve around an uneven creek bank. Doug had the integrity to call and let us know he was going to reduce the price of the fence when he realized it was not quite as long as he had initially measured--something he did not need to do as we had signed a contract and would never have known the difference! The gates are well-made and easy to open and close. We could not have asked for a better experience or nicer looking fence!
Description of Work: This is a locally owned company with hands-on estimate, advice and work by the owner. We called him because we had seen examples of this company's fences when taking walks and they looked so much better than other, similar fences. The owner returned our call immediately and was here to give an estimate within a day or two at our convenience. He gave great suggestions, had a lot of pictures, worked with an unusual layout of the yard and did some extra work with no charge to prepare the site. He prepared the drawings for the homeowner's association submission and scheduled the install within days of approval. He came back once more before the install and confirmed our wishes and explained exactly what he was going to do. The delivery of materials was handled unobtrusively and the materials themselves were far superior than what we had seen on other fences. The install was done on-time, as planned, and with no disturbance to anything else. The site was cleaned up immediately and all materials removed within a couple hours of completion.

I was very pleased with FBD's work. I thought it would be hard to find a company to come out to fix a fence. I find companies don't like doing small jobs but Doug didn't object at all. I wish I knew about FBD when I replaced the fence initially. I will use him again.
Description of Work: Found FBD Fence Co on Angies' List. Asked Doug if he could replace a broken gate post. Showed him the rest of the fence that I had replaced years ago with a disreputable co that I reported to the Better Business Bureau. In addition to the post, Doug fixed my 3 gates, reattached poorly hung wire to my fence and fixed a rail. All 3 gates, for the 1st time, swing open freely and close properly. He did a great job and I will use him next time to replace my fence when the time comes.
