FBD FENCE COMPANY

We had 3 estimates of which FBD was the lowest by far. That would normally cause concern for quality, but neighbors had fences installed by FBD and were satisfied. The installation was scheduled within a few days of our decision. The crew arrived on time, the fence was installed and the old fence debris was removed before noon. The fence passes the fussy husband test with flying colors. The clean-up passes the fussy wife test. If I ever need another fence, FBD is who I will call.

This project was in a year in the planning due to unexpected family issues. During this time, Doug Depasse was the only contractor out of three companies to follow up on the job. The existing fence was at least 30 years old. Doug suggested that I get a property survey which turned out to show my property extended 2 ft further in one section which was a surprise to me but oddly not to my neighbor. Scheduling was tricky due the rainy weather this spring. Once the installation was confirmed, the materials where delivered. Doug's installation team arrived the next day. John and Tim arrived on time at 7am and got right to work. It's a tough job but the crew had the right tools. They were very patient and extremely nice with my last minute questions/concerns. They completed the job in 8 hours. The debris was placed in one neat pile and picked up later. The 2/2014 original quote was $2180.00 which was lower than his competitors. However, I made several changes to the estimate which increased the final price to $3000.00. The fence looks amazing. I'm so happy with the finish product. I realize, it's just a fence but it was so long in the making and worth the wait. I would recommend FBD in the future.

Doug and FBD Fence were excellent. Doug communicated with me over email before we purchased our house and recommended a property/boundary surveyor who saved us $400 over the surveyor our title company recommended. After we settled in, I contacted Doug again about getting an estimate for our fence and moving forward with installation plans. Where Doug really shined was helping us with our Home Owner?s Association. If you live in Columbia, MD and need a fence, Doug is the man! Doug helped us compile all the necessary information we needed and even came with us to the committee meeting to help us with a delicate neighbor situation. Our fence was approved by the HOA and Doug?s guys came the next week to do the installation. It was still winter, cold, and dark, but the installers showed up ready to work by 7AM ? when we got home from work, the fence was completed. Doug came that evening to walk us around the fence and re-measure everything. The fence looks great and we are very happy we chose FBD.

Doug was very responsive to my inquiry and very quick to give me an estimate. I was not home when he came over so he left the estimate at the door and then explained everything to me over the phone. I accepted his quote and felt lucky that he said he could install the fence so quickly. He also made a special trip by my house to show me the two different types of pickets available. On the day he came the snow was melting and it made my backyard very muddy. At first I was concerned because the whole place looked like a big mud pit and I was thinking how dirty my dogs would be if I let them in the backyard. I expressed my concern to Doug and he said he would come put grass seed and straw on it the next day. The fence turned out looking great! Not only did Doug put grass seed and straw on my backyard, but I think he also put down lime or some other lawn nutrient because I could see little white balls of stuff in my yard. So to me he really went above and beyond. Doug was a very nice person and was very easy to deal with. He made the whole process low stress and I really appreciated that. I wish he did other kinds of work (other than fences) because I'd be inclined to hire him again. But my fence is so good that I likely won't need another one for 25 years.

He got to the work almost right away (barely a week after we hired him). The fence looks really great, and we are completely satisfied. He had the best price, and he was able to do the job in the shortest time.

Doug and his team did a great job removing our old fence and installing a new one, including two gates. The work was done when promised and as described. The team started first thing in the morning and completed the job in one day. Doug's team was hard working and efficient. Doug personally came out before hand to walk through and plan the job and then afterwards to check the final product. We are very happy with quality of the work as are our neighbors. It's no surprise that FBD signs are showing up all over fences in Columbia.

From start to finish, Doug was fantastic- as is the gorgeous new fence in our backyard. Doug called me back right away when I first placed an estimate request. He scheduled quickly, showed up promptly and in a very straightforward and honest way, told us exactly what our options were. He gave us several to choose from with great prices to match. No up sell. He managed the entire process expertly so that all we had to do was pick an install date - he literally did all the rest- inclusive of tree trimming, calling the utility company, etc. On install day we left for work and came home to the most beautiful fence we've ever seen. Installed in ONE DAY!!! His crew was professional and kind, and Doug....well, one of the nicest guys ever. I'll recommend him to everybody!

Doug was very prompt in responding to our request for an estimate. If I remember correctly, he came out the next day to look at our yard. He's not pushy - just matter-of-fact - which was nice. One of the reasons we chose him is he's hands-on as opposed to just sales. Once we decided to hire him, he promptly ordered the supplies which were delivered the day before the job began. Doug came the night before and began the tear down of the old fence. Two other men came the next day and finished the tear down and replaced the fence and created three gates all in one day. Doug came later that evening and did some fine-tuning of the gates. A separate company came and hauled away the old fence materials. Doug kept us informed of every step along the way. We could not be happier! It looks so great!

Doug responded to my email inquiry within a few days after I sent it. We arranged a date for us to meet. He met with us in the evening which was convenient because of my work schedule. He showed up promptly, measured the property, talked to me about the different options and gave me an estimate. He came with a book of pictures of past jobs, which was helpful to see examples of his work. We arranged another time for Doug to stop by and paint the ground. He came out during the weekend and marked where the fence would go. We agreed on a day for the fence to be built. They started on Wednesday and built the entire fence. When I got home for work they were finishing up, and everyone was really working hard. They came back on Thursday and finished the job. The installed the two gates, and cut the boards to create the Mt. Vernon Dip. When I got home, my yard was cleaned up and the fence turned out perfect. His crew did a fantastic job. They were professional, hardworking and the end product was superb. Doug met with me after the job was complete. We met in the evening again. We walked around the fence, inspected it and he reassured me if any thing was wrong with the fence that I could call him at any time. Overall, I am extremely happy with my new fence that enclosed my backyard. I would recommend FBD to anyone in the Columbia area looking to get a high quality fence for an affordable cost.

ved was outstanding drom the beginning to the end of the project.FBD Fence Company did an outstanding job, and if you live anywhere in the Columbia area, I wouldn't choose anyone else. The owner, Doug, was extremely responsive, came to the house and provided an immediate estimate, which was very competitive. He promised that the work would be done within 7-10 days and called me several times to keep me up to speed with scheduling. The fence was indeed installed within one week and the installers did an outstanding job of removing the old fence and replacing it with a new one. They took great care around some cables that were close to the fence line, in addition to some shrubs that were located up against the fence. The clean up was excellent and I'm thrilled with my new fence that looks terrific. Doug stopped by after the job was completed to check on it and to make sure I was satisfied, and the customer service I received from the beginning to the end of the project was outstanding. I highly recommend this company.

I contacted FBD for an estimate on aluminum fencing for my home. We are installing a deer fence in our backyard and woods and wanted 7.5-8' tall fencing and two gates to meet the deer fence on either side of my house. When I first contacted Doug with my request I'm not sure if I wasn't clear or what but he replied that it was best for me to contact the initial installer. I replied to him and explained that we did not have any exsisting fence and what it was we wanted to do. He replied again " Your fence project is not something I could estimate at this time of the year. If you have not completed your installation after July or August I would gladly be able to provide you with a quote". Since I didn't quite understand this either, I contacted him yet again and asked to clarify, explaining that the metal fence and the deer fence were independent of each other and that one could be installed without the other. He's reply was as follows, "Your pricing for this project will be cheaper in a few months. Due to and because of the late winter, your project/installation labor is competing against larger new fences and storm damaged work that can command higher prices. It is a factor in market supply and demand". Okay? If his company is doing so well that he doesn't need new business or he only wants customers that are fencing in acres of land, I would have appreciated the honesty from him just saying that, I'm not taking on any new clients with fence projects under "x" amount of feet... On the side bar of his page it says "Free estimates, year round service - fence installation 12 months a year, survey assistance available, HOA assistance available, owner supervised." That was clearly not the case here. I value honesty from anyone I'm thinking of doing business with and while I appreciate him letting me know that due to the time of year it would cost more, I don't appreciate the fact that he couldn't be bothered to actually come out and give me an estimate. He never asked any questions about my project so he has no idea how much fencing we needed or even what we were willing to spend on it. Considering the fact that we are installing deer fence, waiting is not an option. The deer will happily eat whatever they can and I'd end up with yet another season of lost plants. Had he actually talked to me, he would have understood why I was pursuing this at this time of the year. I know from reading his reviews that he doesn't believe that we should be allowed to leave reviews when service has not been conducted, but I disagree with this because first impressions are very important in dealing with a business. The impression that I got, from my albeit limited communication from him is that he isn't interested in new business unless it meets some sort of unknown criteria. I suspect he will reply and try to paint this into something different. I have nothing against him or his company, this is nothing but a review of my personal experience with him and how I feel about how that went and from my point of view, it didn't go well. When you contact a company to come out and give you an estimate on a project, that is what you expect to get. Updated 4/30/2014 In response to his comments: No we did not only need GATES. We needed Aluminum FENCING and TWO GATES. We have found a wonderful company to work with who was more than happy to get our business. He is correct, he did indeed make the right decision in not taking our business because frankly any service provider with an attitude like that doesn't deserve it!

The process was simple, efficient and well done. Doug came out in a timely fashion to provide an estimate. His price was very reasonable. Once we informed him that we chose him for the installation of the split rail fence around our property, he had the entire project completed within 3 days of our call. We were truly impressed with his efficiency. His crew was professional; completing the project in 6 hours. They also cleaned up and hauled away the old fence the same day. We recommend FBD Fence to all.

No work performed, not even an estimate. Apparently if you are not closer than 15 miles, they are not interested in your business at this time.

It was a great experience and I would recommend him. He communicated consistently and all the work was done on time.His quote was the lowest of the three I got and it was highest quality materials. Doug was very personable and provided some good advice on where to move some trees that were too close to the fence line. His team cleaned up everything and were some of the hardest working guys I've seen. I would highly recommend him for any of your fence needs.

Doug seemed professional and knowledgable and helpful. His quote was lower than the other two I got. Ultimately I went with another company based largely on a friend's personal testimony with the other company. I will note that Doug almost forgot to include his labor in the estimate. Luckily he caught it before he left, but it seemed like an odd thing to leave off.

FBD Fencing installed a beautiful aluminum fence on our acre of property in October 2013 at a very competitive price. The owner of FBD Fencing, Mr. Doug Depasse, was courteous, knowledgeable; extremely customer oriented and was involved in the entire process including the installation of the fence. Mr. Depasse made multiple trips to our home to discuss the parameters of the fence to ensure that we would be pleased with the final product. Not only was Mr. Depasse's work top quality, he went above and beyond to ensure that we would be totally pleased with our new fence. For example, he installed wooded posts into the ground where the double gate was going to be placed to give us a visual model of the location. After seeing this, we were able to adjust the location of the gate to be perfectly aligned to the end of the driveway. If you need a fence, we highly recommend FBD Fencing!

Doug was very responsive in providing a detailed estimate. The work was performed right on schedule. We had previously used Long Fence for over 20 years. The fence work performed by FBD is definitely better than Long Fence.

Couldn't have been a more pleasant experience. Doug came out and gave us a no-nonsense and very fair estimate. He performed a very high quality repair and install, and was extremely affable throughout. He is also excellent at explaining what the work involves. If we ever need any other fence work done in the future, Doug will definitely be who we call.

Fantastic experience! Doug is an enthusiastic professional proud of the quality of his work. He takes on one job at a time so we had his full attention from delivery of supplies right through hauling away the debris. He also volunteered to take away rails left under our deck from the first fence which had to have been installed at least 15 years ago and had been rotting under the deck since then. He arrived for appointments when he said he would, answered all our questions and explained every step of the process in detail (which we loved). We can not recommend him highly enough.....don't even look at another fence person in this area!

I wanted to take the time to let you know what a great job your crew did on the installation of our fence. Doug & his team were very responsive, punctual and professional. They used quality materials, cleaned up all debris and left over materials, and had the trash hauled away. It was a pleasure working with Doug and his team. Doug was very polite and professional. i would highly recommend him to anyone needing fencing services. We will definitely call him back again if more repairs are ever needed for our fence.

Working with Mr. Depasse (Doug) was a true pleasure. Initially, we weren't concerned with replacing the pre-existing fence because it was installed two years ago by another company. One post was leaning a little but we always thought it was a good fence. Mr. Depasse showed us things about the existing fence we had no idea were wrong. We were flabbergasted but just how awful the existing fence was. He had to take us up on the hill behind our house and show us how to ignore the optical illusions. Once he did, the wrongness of those partial fences stood out like sore thumbs. All the posts were twisted and the longer partial was actually crooked with the last post installed a good six inches in the neighbor's yard. I had always wondered why my flower box wouldn't line up right but it never dawned on my it was because the fence was crooked - I thought it was just my eyes playing tricks on me. Mr. Depasse went over two plans with us. One for adding on to the existing fence and another that included replacing the existing fence. He went over what he was going to do when he installed the fence to include over nailing, installing the gate hardware on the inside of the gate, and putting a kick plate of sorts near the bottom of the gate. If memory serves, it keeps the gate from kicking out at the bottom over time. He also said that he would install the posts about 2 feet off the house so he wouldn't hit the footer (huge concrete support slab under houses). Turns out that's probably what was causing that one post to lean. Footers, on houses without basesments which is us, are only about 18" deep and fence posts are supposed to be something like 30" deep. We had actually noticed it leaning within a few days of installation but never could get that former company to fix it. To remove the pre-existing fence, he just cut it out below grade and hauled it off. He also let us know he wasn't the cheapest out there but he wasn't the most expensive either so middle of the road. He wouldn't let us make a snap decision either. He wanted us to take a few days, discuss it, shop around, etc. He was mindful of our HOA rules and kept in contact with us about dates and such. He works one job at a time so if you have him doing a job, that's what he does until it's finished, even when a transformer blows and knocks out power to the neighorhood for a few hours. That's what happened to us. Our job was only supposed to take a single day but it took two due to the power outage. Oh, he also cleared out any plant life that was in the way so if you got plants you like, move them. He will tell you what needs to be cleared out and he will tell you if it's something he can do himself. For us, he said he could trim/remove the plants but we went ahead and took care of it. We figured we were hiring him to install a fence, not do landscaping. However, we had forgotten to move some plants I wanted to keep. I fully expected them to be trampled but I came home to find that Mr. Depasse had talked to my husband and decided to move them. They were totally replaceable but I had formed a silly attachment to my little plants so finding them saved was an unexpected joy and I am really thankful to Mr. Depasse for doing something he didn't have to do. After the install, we could find no debris. No nails. No chunks of wood, nothing. We just love the work Mr. Depasse did and will recommend him to anyone!

Doug was very responsive and was able to get to our house within a week for an estimate. Our fence was actually originally installed by FBD. We haven't gotten other estimates yet, but we felt their price was very fair. I also appreciated the fact that we didn't feel pressured at all to go with them. Doug also suggested only the parts that needed to be repaired and we didn't feel like they were just out to make money. We ended up getting an estimate for 3 posts to be resecured and some random horizontal posts. We thought their price was fair and are waiting to have work done.

I found FBD Fence to be a high quality company that is trustworthy. They were courteous, quick to respond to my inquiry for an estimate, came to my home when I was available, listened to what I wanted, explained withthe appropriate amount of detail what they could do, presented a well written and detailed quote with a reasonable price, showed up on time, completed the work when they said they would used quality materials and quality craftsmanship to build a high quality fence, and, thoroughly cleaned up after themselves.

It was a pleasure working with Doug and his team. I would definitely hire them again and refer them to any of my friends or family needing fencing or gates.
