Certified Roofing

We received 4 estimates and Certified was right around everyone else's cost. However, Certified uses higher grade materials, that other companies didn't offer, and they provide an excellent warranty. We were provided with anything and everything up front, we didn't have to ask for any insurance information or references. Certified was prepared and they provide quite an impressive package for a home owner. Tom makes you feel confident in his company at the time he provides you with the estimate. All of the materials to complete the job were delivered about two days prior to the install. Tom's crew arrived on time and worked 10 or more hours during two of the hottest days on record. They were very professional and were methodical about the way in which they worked, so that debris from the old roof was not strewn about the property. They did an excellent job and left no trash or debris behind.

Excellent. Punctual on every part of project. Gave us best of four estimates for ranch house and garage. Started work on day they said. Upon completion, there were several punch list items to correct. They came back immediately and corrected the problems. Great responsiveness, work, clean-up and follow-up.

Excellent job. The house looks great. They also replaced a bit of rotten trim. Fascia, under the gutters. They accidentally broke a flowerpot and brick wall when throwing things off the roof, but they came and fixed it. Very professional. Good (included) warranty, good product, competitive price, I got several quotes and this was the best.

Excellent service. Some delay due to weather, but work was completed in a timely manner and cleanup was very thorough. Certified's professionalism was miles ahead of the competition, and their price beat all competitors. The Certified estimator arrived with a satellite view of our roof, so he didn't have to hunt about and measure. Communication was timely, personable and accurate. Workers were competent and quick. Work was completed on time and to our satisfaction. (Didn't leave us any spare shingles; we usually have received spares, but we expect their work was good enough that we won't need 'em. Certified acknowledged they'll provide spares if we do need 'em.)

The job went very well. The crew was fast and very professional. There were some communication mishaps with the crew but they were minimal. There were some problems with the gutter work, in that they left open gaps in the siding between the fascia board and the gutters. After a phone call to the owner and his prompt assessment quickly resolved the issue. His team came back and completed the job in what should be an industry standard manner. They closed the gaps and sealed the area using simple techniques and material available in the back of their truck. The outcome of the roof was good. There were some planks that should have been replaced, some dings in my siding from where the personnel put their equipment, they used longer nails than first assessed with put holes into the roof of our cover patio, and they left the gaps between the siding and the gutters. All in all, minor issues. The biggest complaint that I have is the long time one waits to hear back from a representative. They use an answering service so you will always reach someone, but getting Jim or Tom on the line takes some time. All our issues were resolved after a mean game of phone tag, emails, and persistence. Don't forget to use your Angies List discount. I highly recommend this company, their craftsmanship, service, and delivery are above reproach.

Overall, I was impressed by the professionalism of the installation team. They arrived at 7 AM and didn't seem to stop working until the job was completed at 5 PM. I don't know how they could work so hard in 90+ degree temperature. I got four estimates and selected the second lowest price. The one that offered the most value for the work to be done. My installation was scheduled for two weeks from acceptance of the bid and started as scheduled. The salesman, Jim Lessig, was very professional and knowledgeable. It was a pleasure to work with him.

The representative was very accommodating of time and professional. The estimate was very professional, provided multiple options, and the cost was very competitive. I was very pleased with my service with Certified Inc.

Mr. Keehn responded the same day to my email inquiry, and came by within a day or two to have a look. Before he left he provided us with a detailed contract that included costs for contingency problems (like rotted boards). The contract included a time frame of starting seven days from the time of our signing and returning the contract, and gave a range of how long it would take. All of those proved to be accurate. The roof was done rapidly, and looks great. The big news for us was finally having appropriate flashing around our chimney, something which had been badly done by an amateur some 20 years ago! I really liked the professionalism and quality of work this company provided. I have never had a firm come and do the work as promptly and efficiently as Certified did, and I was impressed by the quality of the job, the clean-up, and the care they took with the garden beneath the roof. We were not asked to pay any money up front; in fact, the crew came and did the job and told us we would be billed, and we were. I think this practice encourages customer confidence, and it gave us time to look over the job afterward and satisfy ourselves that the money was well spent. I like the fact that Mr. Keehn has that kind of confidence in his crew and the firm's practices. We want to use this firm for window replacements later on.

This was an excellent experience from start to finish. The estimate was done in a prompt manner and very professionally presented. The work was done within the timeframe outlined and was well executed. I had a problem in the front of the house with the gutters that no one has seemed to be able to correct but they were able to fix it. I would definitely hire them again.

They were good. There was one complaint that I had. I did not think they properly insulated the skylights. I could feel a draft coming from the skylights. I had another company come in and fix this draft. I did bring this up to them, and I was not satisfied with their solution, so that is why I hired the other company. Overall, they did very good work. If you use them to install the skylights, discuss how they will insulate them.

I was very pleased with the work Certified Inc. performed on my house. The entire roof on my home needed to be replaced. I met with three roofers selected from Angie's List, and I chose Certified because of their reputation (Angie's List Award Winner) and competitive bid. Tom Keehn (the owner) did the estimate. Tom and Rudy (the foreman of the crew) were extremely responsive to all of my questions before and after the work was initially completed. The crew was prompt, polite, and efficient. Rudy even came to my house during a holiday weekend to take care of a shingle that needed to be adjusted! The people from Certified were extremely professional throughout the entire process. The final invoice was very close to the initial estimate (the job ended up costing $30 more than the initial quote due to plywood that needed to be replaced). On a side note, Tom provided me with a list of former customers who would recommend Certified as a roofer. If you are uncertain of the shingle you would like to use, I would either take a look at one of those homes (as another reviewer mentioned) or try to find a sample of the actual shingle. I chose a shingle based on the catalogue from the manufacturer and pictures on the internet. The shingle was darker than I had anticipated.

Jim Lessig did our estimate and he was responsive and professional. Overall, Certified was easy to work with, were able to come out relatively quickly, and had good communication. I think we got the best work for the price and I liked that the labor is under warranty for 10 yrs and the materials for 15 yrs. That gave me the confidence I needed to sign a contract with them.

They were prompt and friendly. It ended up that they wanted to do a full re-roof. We decided we just wanted it to be repaired.

The estimate was 20% below all others. The package explaining the company, referals, product, and services was excellent. No others provided this level of information. The materials were delivered two days before the team started and everything was in great shape. The team showed up at 7:00am and worked like a well oiled machine all day until the entire job was complete to perfection. The total cost was actually under $5,000 with the Angies list coupon. My roof is 14,000 sq ft. The work and quality is like art work, vary happy.

This is an excellent company. Mr. Keehn is a complete professional, and his company is very well-credentialed. His crew was outstanding. They were highly efficient, courteous and very, very competent. Mr. Keehn was very accommodating, and provided samples of the shingles in the colors we were interested in choosing from. He also provided addresses of houses he'd done in those colors so we could see a complete and finished job. The cmpany guarantee is superior to those of other companies we got proposals from. His prices are competitive. The work is the best you could ask for.

After reading the reviews on Angie's List I had high expectations from this company. They did a good job on the roof but I expected a bit more based on the reviews posted here. My "issues" include: 1 - The length of time it took to complete the project. Initially, during the estimate Tom said it would take 2 days. When he scheduled the work, he said it would only take 1 day. It ended up being 2 and a half days. 2 - Property cleanliness was a slight nuisance. Unless you stand over the workers to direct them to clean up your yard (and the neighbors' yard - I live in Baltimore City in a SFH), they will leave cigarette butts (which is highly annoying considering I do not smoke and think its disgusting), food wrappers, water bottles, and roofing materials (chips) scattered about. I cleaned it up myself. It wasn't worth having Tom's men come back out to my house to clean up. 3 - Angie's List Coupon not honored. I sent a check, the invoice (with a post it note attached which calculated the balance due after the coupon), and a copy of Certified's listing on Angie's List that states "$150 off a complete roofing project" (circled in highlighter). The balance of the invoice was charged to my credit card and when I reviewed my credit card statement I realized I was not given the discount of $150. I'm not sure why the coupon wasn't honored. I'll have to wait for a response from Tom to understand that. I do not want this post to seem overly negative because my experience was mostly good. Everyone I dealt with throughout this process was very nice and polite (from the call center operated by Certified, Inc., to Tom himself, to the delivery guys, to the workers). Even when a couple other hiccups surfaced (i.e., issue related to scheduling the project and my unhappiness with the condition of my gutter covers following roof installation), Tom resolved them without haggling or unpleasantness. I would use this company again and have already referred them to others.

The salesman was extremely thorough and well prepared, and was totally low pressure. The work was done promptly and neatly. They quoted an all-inclusive price for the roof, which included ridge vents, new flashing, new seals around vent pipes, and a neoprene strip at the edge of the roof. Other bids we got would quote a low initial price, then add charges for each of the extras.

Overall, certified was excellent. They provided a competitive estimate, were efficient in scheduling and completing the work, and their crew was very professional.

From start to finish the work was superb and precisely as estimated. I am very pleased. It was a pleasure to do business with this firm.

It was a total toss up for me why I choose another company. I really like Certified. Their price was very good, and all their materials and scope of the job matched. I guess in the end it was just the other company kept coming out to see me, whereas Jim was emailing. Not a good reason I know but the only one I can think of. I really think this is a good company and probably go with it if there were a next time.

Certified had trouble getting the desired materials, delaying job for 10 days, including one rainstorm. When the materials did arrive, the Certified crew was all over the job, completing it in about 3 days. Fast, efficient, unobtrusive, and clean. Our contractor's assessment was that Certified did the job right. We love the look of the new roof, even more like slate than slate.

This company did an excellent job from estimate-to-cleanup. Very responsive and the final results are fabulous. Courteous hard-working crew that were always on time. A great experience overall.

Four estimates were obtained. Tom, the owner, gave us the widest choice of shingle that would meet the 1500.00 fed credit. Was $2800.00 less than Brothers estmate which we thought would be our choice but only offerred one possible choice for the credit. The roof looks great, clean up was satisfactory. Very pleased with result. Neighbors commented on the outstanding look!

Fantastic! Tom gave us an estimate promptly, set up the job, ordered the roofing we requested. When we changed our minds about the color, he made the adjustment with no hassle, the workers came as planned, the job was extremely well done, the workers cleaned up and the job was completed in two (2) days. If only all home repair companies were as outstanding as Tom Keehn's!! And he completed the job for less than any other bidder, including one roofer we have used for several years. His price was more than $10,000 less than one bid and there was no 'fast talking.' Everything was above board, honest, and professional.
