The agent who came to our house, Jim, was very honest and professional. He was extremely knowledgeable. He even knew exactly which shingles were currently on our roof and the production dates of them. After taking measurements of our house he came in and sat down with us to explain what Certified Inc. had to offer, answered all of our questions with great detail, and gave us a typed estimate showing all work that would be performed and the price. The price ended up being a very close second lowest of all the estimates that we received. It never felt like he was trying to sell us something at all. There was no pressure at all. In the end, we decided not to replace the roof for another year or two. However, when the time comes we will most likely go with Certified Inc. as we were impressed by the knowledge level, professionalism, and price. Overall, it was a great experience getting the estimate.
Description of Work: We got an estimate for replacing our entire roof.

The crew did an excellent job from the point of removing the old siding through to insulation and the finished product look terrific. Tom and his employees are very professional, and a pleasure to work with. Other companies that I tried to get an estimate from tried to pressure me into making an immediate decision, for a reduced cost, and also placed a 1/3 deposit. Certified leaves you with a very professional and detailed estimate, and don?t expect that you pay anything until you are satisfied with their finished product. I will be using Certified again for other areas of my house and would recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Tom's crew tore off the house's original aluminum siding on the gables and replaced it with insulation board and new insulated siding. They also took care of the trim, in addition to a seamless gutter on the front porch and new downspout.

I was duly impressed by Certified's professionalism! Our estimator -- Jim Lessig -- was incredibly knowledgeable, and friendly and helpful. After estimating the job, he went to his on-truck computer and prepared a printed contract during the estimate. He then ran me through all of the details of the contract, explained everything to me in detail, and answered all of my questions. As per above, we ended up not being able to use Certified because of a scheduling conflict on our end. But, they were so gracious about passing up the job and recommending another company to us. We had a great experience with this other company, so it's still to Certified's credit that they put us in another company's good hands. Big thumbs up!
Description of Work: I selected Certified to demo and replace our flat roof. We planned to use them, but unfortunately our schedules didn't line up -- because we were working with two other contractors (one to demo and rebuild our roof deck and another move HVAC equipment) and we couldn't get everyone's schedules to synch. Certified was so helpful in planning the initial job, and then trying to work around our schedule, and they were so gracious about passing up the job and recommending another company to us. I was impressed, and give them huge thumbs up for that!

I live in a row house and it was done in a day. They sent out the appropriate number of people out to complete the job (in between storms), and the job was completed in a timely manner. The overall work was great! They were very professional and were extremely knowledgably.

They did a good job. I was a little disappointment because they left a mess in the attic when they did the ridge line. However, we were out of town when they did the work so I am not sure if they could have done anything about it. I would have appreciated a warning about the mess though.

Their price was reasonable, out of 4 offers the only one that was significantly less than theirs was a place that clearly wasn't using the same quality of materials. They were quick, efficient, and professional. The only thing that could have made this experience better was if they worked for free :) I would recommend them to a friend.

Our overall experience was great. Tom was extermely patient with us as we selected materials, colors, etc. His crews were professional and courteous. Tom took the time to explain to us the various components of the project and the associated timing. He provided us with sufficient information regarding project costs that we could make an informed decision. As an example of Tom's committment to his customers, he actually changed the sequence of the project for us by accelerating the installtion of the new gutters on 24 hours notice (before the roof/suffit was complete) because of approaching heavy storms.
Description of Work: Certified replaced our roof, suffit, siding, and gutters including a new gutter guard system on our home and garage. The roof was in a very poor state with sigificant deterioration in the old tiles and even a slightly sunken area. the gutters were also in a bad state of repair after the blizzard of 2010.

I called several local companies regarding estimates to replace our flat roof. Jim Lessig from Certified came out at the appointed time and gave me a very detailed quote that included the exact products that they would be using for the replacement. I explained that drainage was a big concern for me so we discussed getting the appropriate slope to ensure proper drainage. Prior to signing the contract I had some additional questions regarding warranties that were answered promptly with a quick phone call to the main office. The price was slightly greater that some of the competing bids but the detail of the bid and the strong warranty made all the difference for me. Additionally, on his initial visit, Jim provided me with a folder that contained copies of business licenses, insurance, company policies, and references. This impressed me greatly. The roof was completed within 2 days and I was very happy with the final product. There was some minor damage to our back screen door due to falling debris but the door was repaired within the week. Jim came back for a quick walk-through and we were able to review all the workmanship together which gave me a great deal of confidence in the product they installed. Would definitely recommend to others requiring roofing services.

Everything went extremely well. The crew was completely professional and competent. They were also friendly and courteous. They did an outstanding clean-up, and ran a magnet around the house several times to pick up loose roofing nails. The company guarantee is superior because all employees are especially trained by the shingle manufacturer in proper installation. The Certified, Inc guarantee covers 100% of replacement labor for 20 years. The company owner was very accommodating to any requests I made, even afyer the job was done. The price was a little higher, but the guarantee and the crew competence was worth it.

It went very well. Tom Keehn came out within a couple of days to look the roof over. He gave a detailed estimate at that time, and also supplied us with copies of licenses, awards the company has received, and letters of recommendation from satisfied customers. He also talked to us several times over the phone--going over the estimate line by line so we could compare it to other bids. His bid wasn't the cheapest, but we had such a good feeling about him and his company, we went with him anyway. There was some delay with the work actually starting, but once it did, the crew was fantastic. They worked quickly and efficiently, always ready to answer any questions we had. It took them two days--and both days, they did a wonderful job cleaning up after themselves. In fact, once the roof was finished, they did such a good job cleaning that our yard and deck was actually in better shape than it was before they did the work!! Update 2/2011: The company ended up sending us a tin of delicious cookies, further thanking us for our business. This was such a nice touch!!

We got two estimates, we were thinking about 3 but after the first two, we felt like either company would do a quality job. lowest price was not the object. the other company gave the first estimate, they are among the A companies on angies list. i was impressed with what i heard and have no negative reason why we didn't go with them. both companies offered the same sourced roofing materials. the estimator from certified presented 3 options, we were interested in something a little nicer than the basic "3-tab shingle" 25 year roof. the next one up was an "architectural" shingle which has a little nicer look and character, for ~$2K more, still a 25 year roof. the colors (very light) on which you can get a tax rebate were not what we wanted. the top priced one is a "solaris" architectural shingle, 50 year roof (part of the period is transferable when you sell), and it has some darker colors for which you can still get the tax rebate. at first he said it would probably be 3-4K more - not worth it. but when he priced it out, it came out only $40 more than the mid-grade "architectural" shingle, after the tax rebate. we went with that. i faxed in the contract on sunday and monday morning received a call that they would do it the coming friday and saturday (the estimator said they were running about 10 days - two weeks lag, but i guess not). they were expected 8 am. they showed up around 7:30am and started work before 8. took my wife to the train and when i got back they had carefully moved everything that could be hit by falling shingles, etc into safe places - even my canoe! - and were stripping the shingles. when i came home from work at the end of the day the job was complete and the area was very clean, nobody in sight - i.e the job was done in one day. don't expect that, it probably has to do with the small size of my house. anyway, it looks great. flashing around the chimneys looks very tight. they had to replace one piece of plywood, this company gives you up to two for free and then charges for each piece after that. the other company did not offer freebies. it would not have been a big expense, but the charge is a lot more than the cost of driving over to home depot and getting a piece of plywood. so i feel this is a very good company and uses good people. i would recommend them to anyone.

Jim Lessig, the sales rep for Certified Inc, told me that he grew up in this business ? and this surely was evident. After a thorough inspection of my roof, Jim took the time to thoroughly explain every aspect of the installation process and any options I might want to consider. There was a detailed discussion of how he would correct specific issues that have been creating problems necessitating the replacement of the roof. Clearly, this man is not only extremely knowledgeable ? Jim is a gentleman. While Jim is now working as a sales rep, he is also an experienced roofer having worked on his first with his family at the age of 12. Although Jim did inspire absolute confidence, my decision to go with another company was based on getting a better price and the fact that I had had a positive experience on a previous project. When I contacted Jim informing him of my decision, I received a most gracious reply indicating he ?completely understands.? Wishing me well with the project, he asked me to give his regards to some of the men who work for the other company. Yes, Jim is a gentleman.

The salesperson, Jim, was extremely courteous, knowledgeable and detailed in taking us through Certified's process from start to finish, answering all our questions and highlighting their quality points. We were impressed that we had an estimate before he left, so we could go over it with him and get related questions answered. The shingles were delivered onto the roof the evening prior to the job. The roofers arrived around 8:30, worked quickly and efficiently, and had the job completed by around 3 pm, including an excellent clean-up.

This is a very difficult review to write because I have never written a bad report on ANY company I have used via Angie's List. This company has been my only disappointment. Let me be clear that my problems were with the company itself and NOT the workers. They were punctual, professional, worked extremely hard and did what I felt was a quality job. My problem is with the extreme lack of communication that Jim Lessig and the company provided. My rating is based on the company and office people and NOT the actual installers. I got the original estimate last Spring but made it clear that I did not want the work done until Fall. Jim said no problem, the price would not change because his costs will not change. When I called in July to book the job I was told the price will go up. After trying to get ahold of Jim multiple times he finally called to say he would not change the estimate. I gave him multiple, multiple dates (2-4 days blocks) to do the job over a two month period with strict instructions that we wanted to be home when the job is done to inspect what was under the tear off (not because we did not trust them). He said it would be no problem. The week before the job was to be done we received days of torrential rains which I knew would change everything. At that point I feel it was the company's responsibility to let me know if and when we were to be rescheduled. I NEVER heard one single word from them - ever! I called them several times and let them know I was willing to be delayed if it meant they could do it on our specified dates. They acted like I was demanding to be done immediately. I repeatedly asked them to let us know if and when they were going to do our roof due to all the rain delays. Again - no return call - ever! Next thing we know we hear things being thrown on our roof (the shingles). The men told us they were doing the roof the next day. This was news to us. Rain continued so I called them to ask that they confirm with us if they were doing the roof over the next two days (which didn't fit our schedule). They never did. Now being that these dates were not the originally planned dates I expected a call to confirm. Jim disagreed and said if we didn't hear from them then we should assume it would be done. After a week of rain why would I assume anything? Then we got the bill which was wrong. They did not give me my Angie's List discount and overcharged me for the plywood used. Got that straightened out. Went out of town only to return to room after room with nails coming through the ceilings. Nail pops yes, but they were absolutely NOT there before the job. One recessed light popped out too. We were afraid there had been a leak and maybe rain caused this while we were gone. I called and asked Jim to please come out and inspect the roof. It is not that we thought they caused the damage (although none of it existed prior to the job) or even wanted tehm to fix it, but rather we wanted to make sure something had not gone very wrong. Of course we never received a callback. I just could not deal with this company anymore so I gave up. I just will never use them or recommend them to anyone. The only good thing I can say about them is their installers and product are quality.

Response from Certified Roofing
After talking with the member and hearing that she was upset that our communication was not satisfactory to her, we had a company meeting to discuss the situation. Although we try our best to relay and communicate all of the information to every customer, we took this opportunity to see how we could improve. We have since implimented some tools to become better communicators in the future. In regard to the nail pops, this is a result of the carpenter who built the home, NOT putting the nails into studs. The vibration of the roof caused them to pop, but this would never have happened if the original construction of the home was done properly. On a positive note, we are extremely proud to have received an A from Mrs. Vanburen for our roof work and a B for our pricing, because we take a lot of pride in the quality of our work for a fair price. Have a great day and thank you for reading our response.

Great! I cannot say enough good things about Certified. They were extremely responsive and professional. Due to all the rain they were honest and said they couldn't fit me into their schedule in the next couple of weeks for an estimate. Since I had a leak I accepted this and started calling other companies. Immediately Jim called me back and fit me into his schedule that week. I had a estimate before he left that was professionally drawn up and itemized along with brochures of the product they were using. Jim also left his business card incase I had any follow-up questions. Certified was the only contractor of the three that used a energy efficient product that would give me a take credit for the same price. When I came home from work I couldn't even tell they were there except for seeing a new roof. I highly recommend this company.

They have quoted me $4100 and due to Angie's List, I got a discount and it came down to $4000 to have complete roof put on. They were laid back, and told me what they could do. There did not try to push me for anything else and asked me what I wanted. They provided me with a brochure with all their insurance, license, a stack of referrals, what they had done over the last 2 or 3 years like a contact and gave me the quote saying if I wanted to use them I should call them. I can't tell anything about them yet as they haven't put the roof on. All I know is their promises. I would tell anyone looking out for a quote for roofing to call them and see what they can do for you. They were the cheapest and I had a salesman come over. I have a contract with them.

The roofers arrived as scheduled to start the work, but the job took a week to complete because of delays caused by the weather. They were not that good at informing me of their work schedule and that caused me to take more time off from work than I had planned. Also, one night the tarp they had put on my roof as temporary protection from rain blew off during a short rain storm. Fortunately, the tar paper kept the rain out, but I was very anxious about rain damaging my ceiling. Overall they did a very good job. The only problem that I have had is with snow occaisionally blowing in through the atic fan vent when it is very windy. I have had to place a pan under the vent to catch the snow. They were unable to offer any solution to this snow infiltration problem.
Description of Work: Removed my existing roof down to the plywood and replaced it with a new shingle roof. Also, replaced the existing attic vent fan with a new fan.

It is so nice to work with a contractor that does exactly what they say will do, at the price they quote, on schedule, to my satisfaction with no surprises or problems. I have replaced roofs myself and I know how to do it correctly. The work by Certified was as good or better than I would have done myself. It was installed correctly, lines are straight, no mess, no rough or unfinished edges, nothing that I needed to tidy or touch up afterwards. Tom was great to deal with, no double-talk, no sales pressure - just good straight forward service. Javier and Carlos performed their work efficiently and carefully. The have a good crew who enjoy what they do and they were conscientious, courteous and respectful. I give Certified my highest recommendation.

Jim Lessig was very prompt in coming out to give us the estimate. He answered our questions completely. But he scheduled the work for a day he was on vacation, so he didn't actually come out to the job site. His crew finished the job in two days, worked hard, were tidy, cleaned up after the job very well. My only complaints were two, which they came back for a 2nd visit to deal with (1) they didn't do something Jim had promised on his estimate visit, which was to fix a gutter location that had pulled away from the house during the Feb. 2010 ice and snowstorms. They attached the gutter with new screws and drew it up tight to the house, but it still sags. They said it's because the gutter hanger had bent, so I will need to replace it myself. (I wish they had done that on the 2nd visit, since I sure don't keep extra getter hangers around the house, nor do I have the ladder needed . . . ) (2) the edge vents cause my existing gutter covers to stick up a bit (not tuck away nicely under the shingles) at the lower end of each gutter run. This is mostly a cosmetic thing, but it would have been nice if someone had explained this before the new roof and edge vents were installed, as it might have influenced my decision to go with the edge vents in the first place. I was presented with a choice between soffett vents and edge vents, and this aspect of the edge vents was never explained. Last point: it took about 3 weeks after the date of the installation for them to come back and address my concerns, and it required follow-up emails and ultimately a piece of certified mail sent by me. Jim Lessig was very responsive, but the company as a whole was not.

We looked up three companies on Angie's List and obtained quotes from each of them. We also had a fourth quote from a few months ago. Certified was the lowest quote and they were also the company from which we got the best feel. Their quote also included some 'extras' like ridge venting that were not on a couple of the other higher quotes. Jim Lessig came out to give us the estimate. He spent some time outside the house taking measurements and then sat down with us to walk us through the whole process and to discuss the quote in detail. He took the time to make sure that we understood the quote and to answer our questions. He left us a comprehensive pakage of information containing not just the brochures for shingles, etc but also copies of all of their insurance certificates, business licenses and certifications. The package also included 3 pages of references noting the address and the type of roof installed at each. Jim also pointed out the shingles that were eligible for an EnergyStar tax credit. When we decided to choose one of the shingles eligible for the tax credit, Jim worked with us through the HOA approval process. He provided a sample of the shingle that the HOA wanted to look at. After the HOA approved the application we talked about scheduling the work. Unfortunately we had had some unforseen expenses come up during the month and we asked about scheduling the roofing job so that it would go into the next billing cycle on our credit card. Certified agreed to this without any hesitation and kept the same price as they had originally quoted. When we had decided on the day for the work, they arranged to have the materials roof loaded a couple days prior. Everything was well coordinated and went smoothly. On the day of the work, the crew arrived on time and the work was completed the same day. My wife happened to be home sick that day. She spent the day in the basement. Apart from the noise on the roof, which was to be expected, she did not have to contend with any other issues throughout the day. The crew did a pretty good job cleaning up after the work was completed. Overall we are happy with the job they did and would definitely use them again if required. We would also recommend them without hesitation.
Description of Work: We had our roof replaced. It was the original roof from when the home was constructed in 1985, so it was due for replacement. Rather then just overlay with a new layer of shingles, we went down to the plywood and also added ridge venting which was not on the original roof. The work was performed on time and for the original amount that was quoted.
