Estimate was competitive with two others. Jim Lessig explained all topics and answered questions. He came back with shingle samples to help us pick out the right color. Between date of estimate and date of work, a leak developed in a low=pitch roof section. Javier and his crew covered it with tarp and repaired this section very carefully. All work was professionally done in 2 days.

They had to replace the entire under roof which was rotted. They did a thorough roofing job, including having to go around a sky light. One of the office people, with a phone call, helped me to select gutter colors, which I appreciated, too. In addition, they came promptly, and cleaned up nicely around the house and yard.. My only objection was that in redoing the whole roof (replacing the wood) meant there were nails and wood chips in the attic, which they were not required to clean up. One of the work men did make a decent attempt at this for a little extra cash. However, it is still somewhat treacheous to move around the attic. But I would definitely use them again.

I needed to have my cedar shake roof replaced. I got several quotes, and Certified came in lowest. In addition, they were the least pushy when giving the quote, and also fastest in providing a quote. Jim, one of the co-owners, came out to take a look and was able to write up a quote his car and give it to me right after the appointment. Most of the other companies took days to get back to me. The other companies also tried to sell me on different levels of products, and Jim told me the type of product he recommended and basically said I did not need the more expensive ones. I was glad not to be upsold. The main reason I went with him, though, was due to the price. It took several weeks to get scheduled after I sent in my contract. I had to contact them several times. This was during the holidays though, so that may have contributed. Once the job was scheduled, they got started quickly. Unfortunately, right after the first day and they tore off the old roof, there were heavy rains that lasted for days. They told us they covered up the roof so there would not be a problem. However, on the third day, we noticed water stains in the ceiling in the garage. We called and they come out right away to reseal the area. They also tried to dry out the attic above the garage were the leak was. Once the weather cleared, they finished the job quickly. We were very unhappy about the leak. We had not had any leaks in our old roof, but wanted it replaced before we started having problem. How ironic that we got a leak during the replacement! But they were able to fix it quickly, and there wasn't any lasting damage. It's hard to judge the quality of the work in general, since we can't really see the roof over the main house. Just have to cross our fingers and hope there are no problems that show up down the road! So far everything seems ok. I just hope that going with the lowest cost bid, in this case, was not a poor choice. One more thing I'll comment on - Jim was very responsive by email and/or phone. I like being able to communicate with contractors by email - makes it very easy.

we opted to use another company.
Description of Work: I was asked by Angie's List to submit a review even though I did not use this company. I am happy to offer any information, as I know it is tricky getting good service. We chose not to use Certified because they were a bit higher in their estimate than Central. The gentleman who came to the house, Jim L*****, was very thoughtful, punctual and informative. I was inclined to go with him, yet because both my husband and I spoke with the Matt from Central, and were comfortable with him, we opted to use Central. From the impression I got from Jim, this would be a competant company and a responsive one. He took a lot of time with us and was quite helpful. They were going to do a roof repair and a re-do of our gabel ends with Hardie Plank.

After getting a few different estimates for a new roof and gutters at my home, I contracted with Certified Inc. Jim Lessig came to my house for an estimate. He was very thorough, explained everything clearly and left me with a firm quote and a nice package of information. That was around October 2011. About 1 year later, I finally got around to having the work done. I contacted Jim, he pulled out my old estimate and stated that Certified would do the work for the same quoted price. The crew arrived on the morning of Dec. 4, 2012. It was very fortunate that the day was beautiful and in the 70's. The crew was very competent and efficient, completing the entire tear-off and new roof in one day ( and a short day at that, in December). The work was excellent and I was very pleased. A few days later that week, another crew arrived to install new seamless gutters on the front and back of my home. Again, the crew was great and completed the job quickly. I had a very good experience with Certified. I can see why they have won a Super Service Award multiple times.

From the beginning, their sales rep was more professional, more polite, and more thorough than any of the others we had seen (and we only talked with folks who were "A" rated on Angie's List). They had more options and more proof of quality than any other roofer; and their price beat everyone. They were able to have our roof installed quickly, did an incredible job of quality, and of follow-up. The day of the install was the day a big storm was about to arrive, so they arrived early and stayed late to get it done in one day. They came back and completed a thorough re-check for any litter or debris. From the sales rep to the crew, everyone was as good as we could have hoped. These guys are the best!

Jim Lessig clearly described the work to be done to install a new roof. He further answered my question both verbally and by drawing pictures to show what he meant. He also explained the companies warranty policy. The workers were professional in their workmanship and did an excellent job in protecting my properity and making sure there was not materials left on my property.
We sought out three bids, received two which were compreble and choose Certified Inc as they (we worked with Tom) were so much more professional and organized. Their bid listed all the jobs that needed to be done very specifically. This really helped with communication (i.e. that they understood what we were talking about!). Our roof at the time had issues which we already knew about which required several new sheet of plywood. Prior to this we had tried to take care of leaks ourselves, finally resorting to pouring tar. All the work was done quickly, professionally, and to the highest standard. This included changing French doors to a window (carpentry, drywall inside, siding outside). I will also mention that the quote was for a specific front door. Tom found out after the quote that the door he was going to order was not the quality he was wanting, so he ordered a different door, but didn't add on the additional price difference. In addition, the attic fan quite working after a couple of weeks. We gave them a call and they came out to check it. Final call was that it needed to be replaced. It has been two years, and we are still very pleased with the work!

On Nov 15 Tom showed up at my house on time. He looked at my roof and told that I did not need a new roof but simply minor repairs. Although the company said they did not do repairs, he was willing to work on mine and gave me a fair estimate. I decided to go with them because another company, who has already received high marks on Angie?s List, did not show up on time and I had to go to work. After receiving a proposal from Tom outlining in details the repair work to be done on my roof, I signed it and faxed it back to him. I was very happy with Certified at this point because they are indeed professional and seemed organized. Things started to go sour when we mutually scheduled a date for their guys to show up. The date selected by both of us was Nov 15 th. I was never given a time but I assumed that they would show up in the morning and do the 4 to 5 hours job in one day as Tom originally told me. I waited and waited on Nov 15 th and by 12 noon no one has called me to tell me they were running late or that they would come in at all. When I called their office they seemed disorganized and I asked the lady who answers their calls to have Tom call me. When Tom called me we agreed that someone would come in at 2 p.m. that afternoon. Tom got a bit smart with me about it and even proposed that I could break the contract. Honestly I was worried about more rain in the upcoming days and having my roof leak again so I decided to stick with Certified even though I never told Tom that the work had to be done on Nov 15 th. We both agreed on that date thus I assume Certified was available to do the job. Finally someone showed up at 2:30 but no work was done on that date. They looked at the roof, told me what was needed to get done and told me they would come back Saturday, Nov. 17 th. On the 17th three guys showed up around 10 am. About 30 mins later, two of the guys have left to finish a job at another site and the one guy left behind did his part of the job and waited around for about 4 hrs before the rest of the crew showed up at 2 pm. They worked until early in the evening. The work was good, the staff was professional and respectful and they cleaned up after themselves. HOWEVER, Certified was very disorganized when it came to timing. I think they wanted to bite off more than they could chew and were doing multiple jobs at various sites. I would only recommend this company to others if they are very clear on the time and date the work will be done.

Member is correct by saying that we did not coordinate a specific time to do the repair work. I also told Member he did not need to be present when doing this repair. I'm sorry that Member gave us an overall B rating when we did take care of him even after I told him we do not do repairs, but would make an exception this time. We never gave him a specific time to do the repairs because we did not need the whole day to do the work and we originally planned to fit it in one day when we were not as busy with one of our crews. Coming back to finish the work is sometimes expected when you get into the job and realize you need extra materials to do the work right. It was Member request to come back on a Sat. to finish. I do wish we communicated with Member that morning to let him know we would get to him when we could that afternoon!

It went well. The company arrived when they said they would, did all the work, did it in the time allotted, and were pleasant. I felt that they knew what they were doing. I watched them do the work. My only complaint is that they "cut a corner" by putting a nail through through a shingle to solve a problem. I spoke with the rep and the foreman, and the crew came back out twice to fix it. The rep came himself after the first fix, found that the repair needed to be done again, and sent the crew out to fix it a second time. I appreciated this because although they made a mistake, they went to great lengths to make sure it was corrected and that I was a satisfied customer. I would recommend them to anyone needed a new roof.
Description of Work: New roof was installed. Included new rain guard, new felt, new 1X8s where applicable, new shingles, ridge vent, fascia board, gutters, and rake boards. New parapet cover and step flashing, new chimney flashing, new drip edge.

Overall, the experience with Certified Inc. was superb. They conducted themselves just as you might hope a professional roofer would when you need a repair & replacement. They truly seemed to have our best interests at heart, & our new roof looks great!! The roof held up during the recent heavy winds w/Sandy as well.
Description of Work: Certified Inc. was one of 7 roofers we contacted for estimates after we had storm damage due to high winds. We discovered the problem when we noticed stains on our ceiling in two rooms along the base of the roof joists. Apparently, the winds had ripped a couple of sections of shingles off the back of our roof, unknown to us (you had to be on the roof to see the area where the shingles had been ripped off); & rain had been slowly leaking into the attic space. Upon inspection, our insurance adjuster told us the entire rear roof needed replacement due to the wind damage. Certified Inc. & five if the other roofers had estimates w/in a couple of hundred dollars of one another (one was much less expensive for an inferior product). However, we also needed the ceiling repaired & painted. Certified Inc. & just two of the other roofers would do the entire job under one contract. However, Certified Inc. was the clear choice. Tom, the owner, seemed the most competent & knowledgable; & he seemed to have a strong desire to meet our needs. He seemed to care about the service he was providing & our needs in lieu of simply winning our contract. We negotiated a contract to do the entire roof, not just the rear roof; & we choose to use the top-of-the-line products. The marginal costs, above our insurance payment, of doing the entire roof w/the best products was very reasonable. Certified Inc.'s additional cost to do the entire roof was also similar to the estimates from other roofers as well. On the day of the repair, the Certified Inc. team completed the enmtire roof replacement in approximately 7 hours. This included removing the old roof & installing the new state-of-the-art roofing materials. We received a new roofing paper (not felt paper -- a rip & tear resistent material); ice dam protection thru a unique membrane along the lower part of the roof; & a new ridge vent system. All of these features were required to gain the 50-year warranty on the architectural shingles. The shingles matched the color of our old shingles as well, but had an enhanced appearance. The crew was superb, & when they left, you'd never know they'd been there. They were fastidious in their clean-up. A couple of weeks later, Certified Inc.'s painting subcontractor was able to reapir & paint our ceiling in two large rooms & a connecting hallway in ~3 hours. They too were superb, & the ceiling never looked better.

Over all I thought the installation went smoothly. The foreman didn't come and introduce himself. A truck just showed up and men started climbing on my roof and went straight to work. They did finish the roof in one day which was sooner than expected and they cleaned up after they finished the work.
Description of Work: We chose this roofing company, as the rating it has from Angie's list. Jim came to our house and gave a very professional, low pressure brief, which was very impressive. He sold me on upgrading to the top of the line products which has a 50yr warranty. He sold us on the fact that he would always respond to our calls, as he wanted to make sure we were happy with the results and would do what needed to be done to make sure we were happy with the finished product. Our roof is only 4 months old and we are having a leak in the garage. I called the company and spoke with Ellen who informed me that they were going to charge us $350.00 to send Javier out to our home to see if the leak was a result of their work or if there was another cause for the leak that wasn't covered by the warranty. $350.00!??! I couldn't believe this. This roof is only 4 months old and it should not be leaking anywhere. Then Ellen kept telling me I should call our Home Owners Insurance and they would pay for this visit. MD was effected by Sandy, but not to any of the extent the more northern states were. We didn't even have our umbrella on our deck blown over, so you can imagine my surprise when she kept telling me to call in a claim to our Insurance company. When I voiced concern that the barrier between the shingles and roof should not have allowed any water in our garage, and we needed to know where the problem was located on the roof, she again said there was nothing she could do without charging us $350.00 to have this problem evaluated from the roofer who installed the roof. I called Jim, who had given me his business card and left messages asking him to call me, as I needed to speak to him about this. To date, I have yet to hear back from him. This company does an excellent job in selling their product. They DO NOT follow up on their promise to return calls,or ensure you get the proper customer service once they have cashed your check. I DO NOT recommend this company, as I now have a 4 month old roof that leaks and can only get someone out to inspect the problem if I pay them $350, or put in a Home Owner's claim so the insurance company can pay them that fee.

Jim is great to deal with and very patient in explaining what the issues are. We have repeatedly recommended them to friends. That confidence was well founded. During Hurricane Sandy we had a very small leak from the ceiling. Within 36 hours of reporting it, Certified had someone out there doing a complete inspection and fixed a tiny seam in the area. Their follow up, responsiveness, and professionalism is incredibly refreshing.
Description of Work: Certified is the best. They came to our home and installed a metal roof to replace a storm-damaged and really subpar roof shoddily installed by our general contractor. The roof was over a kitchen addition in the rear of the house. Certified did a wonderful job and was less expensive than all but one of the other estimates.

The presentation that Jim, one of the owners, gave us was very professional and detailed. The cost was lower than some of the other contractors. The job was scheduled promptly and the job was completed in 2.5 days. The crew was professional and I was pleasantly surprised at how well they cleaned up, given the huge mess replacing a roof makes. We just had Hurricane Sandy and there was not a single leak. Other people in our neighborhood have used them as well and are very happy with the service as are we.

*Overall I am satisfied with their job. I would use again if communication could be improved. I just moved out of the country, and things are a bit busy for me right now, but here is a condensed review. Excuse the typos/grammar. *The good: -Good presentation. I met with Jim. He was on time, and came prepared with info on the company, type of materials to be used, information on the type of roofing materials to be used, letters of recommendation, licensing and insurance of the company. He was very knowledgeable when describing the job to be done. He provided a written estimate on the spot. The estimate was detailed, but could have been a little more detailed overall. If this bothers you, ask for a more exact estimate on parts to be used, specific part and labor breakdown, etc. -I had roofing estimates from three separate contractors, including CertifiedInc. Certified?s price came in at about the middle of the three estimates. I chose CertifiedInc because of their presentation, and because they were the only one of the three who would install bitumen roofing as was currently installed on my home. The other two would only do TPO. I was happy with CertifiedInc?s presentation and ranking on Angieslist.com, so I didn?t bother to search out other roofers that could do bitumen roof replacement. -I informed my insurance company that I wished to work with CertifiedInc. CertifiedInc?s estimate was actually higher than my insurance company?s estimate (so were the other two Contractor estimates by the way), but Jim was able to validate the costs so that my insurance would cover the job. I appreciate Jim?s efforts for this. -I received a call a few days before from Carrie (office manager I believe) as to when the job start date would be. Good communication for this. -The job install was estimated at two days. It was completed in one day. 5 guys were on the roof, while 2 were on the bottom hauling away debris. They brought a truck that was able to lift all the materials directly to the roof. *The things that were just OK and could use improvement: -When I received the call about the job start date, I asked if I could have the number of whomever would be the main contact on the job day in case any problems arose. I indicated that I would be out of town on the date of the install, and that I would like to have a direct number to call just in case. They didn?t know who would be the main person in charge for the actual day, since it can sometimes change last minute. -I was informed by Carrie that the roofing materials might be delivered the day before the job and dropped off in my driveway. It seems that there might have been some lost communication between the estimator Jim and the office, since my house is a rowhouse w/ no driveway, and only a small alley in the back that leads to the backyard. I asked for clarification, because I needed to know if someone had to be present to open the gate to my backyard so that they could dropoff materials. I was out of town at the time and would not be able to do it myself. I was told that they would get back to me on it. I never heard back about it. Not a huge deal, since the installers simply came by on the date of install with their truck that lifted the materials directly to the roof. -After signing the roofing contract, I emailed Jim a couple of times to find out if they were able to take pics before, during and after the roofing job, since I lived out of state and would not be present. I never got an answer. A simple response saying, ?no we don?t do that?, would have been nice. Whether the pics could be taken or not isn?t the issue, but rather the communication. I understand there are other clients. *Things that were less than OK, that are mainly related to communication prior to and during the job, since I was not present on the day of install: -Gutter work. The gutter work was installed with a ?leaf relief? system, or mesh type system, to prevent leaves from getting into the gutter. Initial install wasn?t done perfectly, with openings left where leaves could still get in (gaps present). I gave a call and email to my coordinator Jim, and it was resolved by a friendly guy named John. Even though it was resolved, perhaps this should have been caught by the installers? See pics below. https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/S1hWKc_w-F7IfdhjWFYxCeypCYoIaHkMJwODHrGh6CM?feat=directlink https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/b9sBikd0DUT0hFTqk1GhSOypCYoIaHkMJwODHrGh6CM?feat=directlink -Gutter work. The roof to my house has two portions, a large portion and a smaller, slanted rear portion. The gutter that lies across the large portion was installed so that its opening meets with the smaller, slanted rear portion. Unfortunately, this is a spot where leaves/debris can pile up, potentially causing a blockage. Again, John was able to address it. https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/BQBuJoZjNYlA5rlqysxpZOypCYoIaHkMJwODHrGh6CM?feat=directlink -The roof hatch to my house is a basic wooden box with roofing material covering it. During the new roof install, a new black sticky material was applied around the roof hatch opening as a flashing. The flashing formed a seal that was tight, but unfortunately it made the hatch almost impossible to open from the inside. I ended up having to access the roof through my neighbor?s roof hatch, and pry the roof hatch open from the outside. It would have been nice to have been informed that this might happen. I suppose it should have been my responsibility to ask about this prior to install, but again this was the first time I had a roof replaced. https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/1JXjypZsRWBGo_Pk-VUlqOypCYoIaHkMJwODHrGh6CM?feat=directlink -Certified cannot build a new wooden box/roof hatch for me that is slightly wider on the inside, so that it would come off as easily as it did prior to the roofing job. Basically, I have been told that if they hand build a new one, that ?it would be just as tight as it is now?, and that I would be better off with a prebuilt metal hatch that opens. I was further told that if they hand build a new one, I would ?risk ice and snow melting and coming through the hatch?. Kind of odd, since I never had ice and snow melting and coming through the hatch before. I mean, it?s a box cover on top of a raised lip on the roof. So basically, I?m stuck with a hatch cover that I may not be able to open at times from the inside if necessary. Side note, the other 2 contractors I spoke with had mentioned the ability to build out a new roof hatch box when replacing the roof. *Other notes: -CertifiedInc clearly indicates in their contract an extra cost to pull a building permit if the customer does not pull the building permit himself/herself. It's a bit high, but I live out of state and costwise it would have been a wash had I done it myself. This is neither good nor bad.

Great! We were interested in a specific manufacturer of roofing shingle and compared contractors who were highly rated by the manufacturer and on Angie's List. Jim provided price quotes for 3 different products. He did not try to oversell at all nor add any additional services (such as replacing our skylight windows which are in fine condition). Certified offered the best price for the complete service with high quality materials. His crew were great. It was a 2-day job. The crew arrived punctually each morning, they worked hard the entire time. They were very thorough and did an excellent job with clean-up. We could not have been more pleased.

The sales person showed up on time and was a true professional, providing a thorough cost estimate with absolutely no pressure. The installation crew was equally professional and courteous; showed up on time and worked steadily to complete the work. Most impressive to me was there was absolutely no indication on the grounds that the roof had just been replaced when they left. Overall, one of the best contracting experiences I've had.
Description of Work: removed 2 layers of roof and installed all new roofing, flashings, etc.

They did not try to push us into anything and gave me a reasonable quote. I did not have to bargain with him on his price. Him and his workers are nice people and are easy to talk to. They were done in 2 days for their roof job and finished the gutters in one day.
Description of Work: I had them re-roof my home and perform gutter replacement. They put gutter guards on my gutters to protect my gutters from leaves.
I worked with Jim Lessig at Certified and he was great. I checked them out on Angie's list and spoke to references. Jim was very responsive to my requests and was flexible with using the products which I preferred. The price offered was not the highest but was not the lowest either. I chose them because of their service record and comments on this site. Certified had some good ideas that I used during the job as well. Too much work overall to describe here, but all the crews were consistant. They all did a great job, cleaned up afterward, etc. This thing that stood out to me most was that they promised that they would not require full payment until I was satisfied with the completion of the project. This was very important to me. They certainly fullfilled this promise and it DID come into play. I should make it clear though that , it was not as a result of the work that they did, it was a result of manufacturer defect. Certified went the extra mile for me as once the roof was done I noticed a color difference in some of the shingles. I sent Jim a picture and he sent it to the manufacturer. Certified worked with them and I didn't have to do anything further. After the manufacturer came to take samples of the shingles they found there was a color problem and gave Certified all new shingles, underlayment, the whole nine yards. So they did the front rake of my place twice because of a manufacturer defect (nothing to do with Certified's work) and Certified worked with them to cover cost of new products, labor, etc. I would definitely recommend them as my experience was very good. Most importantly they fulfilled their promise to make sure I was satisfied before being paid even though it was no fault of their own. As they said in the original meeting, the job isn't done until I was totally satisfied with their work. Thanks Jim! The house looks great and it was a pleasure working with you and your firm.
