Tom Keehn is the owner and contact of Certified. He presented the proposal in a friendly yet very professional manner. We chose them over several other roofing company proposals. Juanthe foreman, and his 5 man crew arrived at 7AM as promised. They completed one side of the roof when bad weather arrived. They covered the other side as rain was expected for 2 days. It rained heavily for those 2 days, and then they returned to complete the job on the next day. Before replacing our 50 yr. old roof it had tar and countless stones on it. The crew cleaned up all the stones from the roof and the ground. Tom was in close touch with us throughout. Everything was done to perfection. Certified went above and beyond, exceeding our expectations. We now have a beautiful white roof, which does NOT leak. We recommend them highly.
Description of Work: Stripped a 50 year old flat roof down to bare wood. Replaced 3 bad planks. Installed 4 layers including 1 1/2 inches of insulation board (R9 value),Certainteed Black Diamond Base Sheet, and Certainteed Flintastic "COOLSTAR" white reflectant roof surface. Entire roof was sealed. Gravel stop and drip edge flashings were installed. Everything cleaned up. "

Sadly the work had to be pushed back twice do to Rain, Cold with High winds. Once we got some calm weather the crew with Jarvier as the foreman started work. Jarvier kept me informed as to their progress. They started at 8AM and finished at 7PM. They did take about a 30-40 minute break for lunch but other than that they worked without stopping. They cleaned up afterwards. Jarvier was responsive to my questions and checked with me to see if everything was okay.

After consulting with several other roofing companies, Certified Inc. was far in front of the pack in responsiveness, promptness, explanation of contracted services and product quality. The teams that were sent for each component of the project were respectful and professional and clean up was spotless (important as the project was in a tight community). I highly recommend Certified Inc.!

It went well with Certified. We were able to get a reasonable price and they were able to go out and do the work. We haven't had issues since they did the work. We decided to go with them because of the combination of the price as well as the speed that they can do the work and the proposed solution for the problem.
Description of Work: They repaired the roof. They took off the roof and put down some new plywood and roofing. They redone some areas, did some counter flashing on the chimney. The chimney thing was a side item, the main issue was that there was a leak and they did a repair where the leak was happening.

Initial consultation went great - quote was about $1000 cheaper than an equivalent quote elsewhere. Also Tom suggested simple rain diverters instead of the dormers I initially asked for (I wanted to divert roof runoff away from windows in the mansard roof) - so that saved me another $3k. Scheduled the installation for Presidents day 2014. There was 6" of snow still on my ground and roof, so I figured we would reschedule. I was going to call the office after they opened at 9am (Monday), but instead the whole crew showed up at 8:15 ready to go. I was apprehensive but I guess the snow and cold didn't cause any problems - aside from apparently preventing them from cleaning up. The biggest problem was that I selected to pay a $660 upgrade from the basic Landmark shingles to Landmark "Pro", but that's not what I got. If I hadn't caught the problem (2/3 through the shingle installation, since no one bothered to show me the shingles when they were delivered), I believe I would have been charged for the upgrade even though I never received it. Certified even filed my warranty paperwork stating that I had the pro shingles. But - mistakes happen. When I pointed out the problem to the crew foreman, he took responsibility. I talked with him and Tom (owner), to come to an agreement. I explained that I had wanted the "pro" line primarily due to the enhanced algae resistance/warranty on my near vertical North facing mansard roof section. They offered to install zinc roof strips on my North slopes at no cost, to add additional algae resistance (and obviously not charge me for the "pro" upgrade either). The crew was messy: my grill cover was torn, there were multiple wads of chewing gum (on our deck), a sock, and tons of roof debris left. I didn't look like they picked up at all. Of course all the snow would have hampered cleanup efforts. I called the office after most of the snow finally melted and had them come clean up, its good now. I remain concerned (although Tom assures me its fine) about the lowest row of shingles. These are on the mansard portions of my Dutch Colonial (barn house)...so the roof is nearly vertical, and there are gutters directly under the last row of shingles. For some reason they installed the shingles extending an inch or so lower than the roof decking, so the shingles not only contact the clips which hold the gutters up, but they were sliding out on them instead of laying flat. They sent the foreman back out and he cut notches out of each shingle around the gutter clips, and pushed them back flat. This is only visible from a ladder, so aesthetically that's fine with me. But the notched shingles are still wedged against the gutter clips. My worry is that as the shingles expand/contract, that may work the nails out.
Description of Work: replaced asphalt shingle roof and underlayment replaced some rotten decking (included in quote) removed and re-installed window flashing

After receiving estimates from 4 different contractors provided through Angie's list we selected Certified Inc. Jim Lessig one of the owners of the company came out to the property to meet me and to discuss my needs. Jim was very professional. Before leaving the property he went to his truck and printed the estimate. The estimate from Certified roofing was not high nor was it the low estimate. Their estimate was in the middle of the pack. I found Certified to be the most professional firm of the firms I interviewed. After the initial meeting I had questions about the roofing warranty and about adding additional work to the contract. I always received a returned email or phone call. I can't say that about the other companies. Excellent company to do business with. Very good experience from start to finish. Thumbs UP!

Even though they did the service well, I asked them some questions post-service and they were rude. They did not answer. When I asked some questions particularly relating to finishing task they said, "No, that is not our job. The people who did the roofing and drywall made the mess and it is not ours." Of course, that thing happened after they installed the roof. Basically, what happened was there is a ventilation in our roof. They replaced the glass and while doing that, the interior finishing of the ventilation was not done well. It had a lot of scratches. So I asked them, "Hey, the finishing is not good. It looks really bad." They started defending rather than coming and looking at what should be the solution. That was really disappointing, but otherwise the service that they did was good. Of course, I cannot climb up on the roof and check. The price included removing existing roof and replacing with a new roof. They cleaned-up okay. For the installation, they told us a time and came in little early which caused some discomfort. They said 9 o' clock but they came early morning 7 o' clock. When I asked them why, they said they could not stand in the sunlight and so they wanted to finish up early. I understood that and said okay. Before the service the communication was very good, but after the service I was disappointed. I would grade the professionalism of people who did the work as 'B' but I would grade the office a 'C'. 04/22 : Jim from Certified Inc contacted me and asking me to provide clarifications on my Angilist feedback with wrong tone. so, I'm updating my rating once again on their "Professionalism" from 'D' to 'F'.

This job was one of the best experiences I've ever had with a contractor in 32 years of homeownership. The work with done right, with high standards, and my contact with everybody in this organization was pleasant and professional from beginning to end. Estimate & price: We received 4 estimates top-rated firms carefully culled from Angie's List and Checkbook. Certified's price was in the middle, not the cheapest, but they seemed to be the most pleasant and professional, and inspired the most confidence, so we went with them. I was impressed that Tom Keehn, the owner, came to the house himself. Tom is clearly knowledgable, as well as honest and patient with my many questions. His measurements and written estimate were the most detailed of any we received. Tom never tried to oversell us on more expensive shingles than necessary. He offered suggestions but was never pushy, showed flexibility with small requests, was easy to reach on his cell phone, and in the end was willing to negotiate a bit. We made one unusual request: to use a different color shingle (the lightest possible) on the high south-facing roof surface that is 100% invisible from the ground. We wanted to maximize solar reflectivity, save save a bit on energy and keep our 3rd floor study cool in summer. Certified had no trouble with this unusual request, nor with another minor substitution. Scheduling: The job had to be rescheduled several times due to winter weather and coordination with another contractor (who was unrelated to Certified) Despite this, the scheduler, Jill, however, remained remarkably cheerful throughout. The work itself: This crew worked non-stop (except for lunch) for nearly 12 hours to finish the job in two days to avoid more rainy weather. The best part of the experience was working with the crew chief, Xavier, who has been with Certified for 17 years. Xavier is amazing; not only experienced and knowledgable, but he has terrific "people skills." He worked with me collaboratively to figure out some complications with the Solatube skylight assembly, which we purchased elsewhere and is a type he had not previously installed. Throughout the job he checked back with me on various decisions to make sure the job was being done as wished. He was relaxed and accomodating with minor requests, and always patient to explain everything and even teach a bit about modern roofing techniques. If I noticed a minor problem -- e.g. the alignment of the skylight dome -- he corrected it quickly and cheerfully. I really cannot say enough good things about him. He's a rare find. In fact, this experience reinforced to me that the most important person in a construction firm, after the owner, is the crew foreman. He is the one who will determine whether the work is done right, problems are corrected, questions get answered and the whole experience is pleasant or unpleasant. Cleanup: Though our yard looked like a waste dump for 2 days, afterwards it was so clean that you could not even tell that anything had taken place. I had to search the back yard to find even the smallest bits of debris. Cons: No contractor is perfect, but the only negatives I can think of are so minor they are barely worth mentioning: 1) We had a minor miscommunication about our original start date, and the owner Tom was audibly frustrated. Not unpleasant, just frustrated, which was understandable. But I thought he might have acknowledged at least the possibility 00 of which I was certain -- that the misunderstanding was mutual Regardless, this minor miscue was quickly cleared up and forgotten. 2) A tiny aesthetic matter. The 5" wide flashing under the dormers is brown, whereas the shingles are mostly grey. I would have preferred black (the only other color choice.) No doubt that Xavier would have cheerfully replaced the 3 flashings, had I asked, but after all he had done I told him not to bother Nobody will ever notice, and if it bothers me I can easily paint these small areas from the windows. Bottom line: I would hire Certified again in a flash (so to speak) and recommend them to friends and neighbors.

After a bout of strong wind this past winter, the roof needed to be replaced. At first, there was a misunderstanding between Tom Kheen and I regarding an estimate I had gotten from the same company 2 years ago. Then, Tom came out and gave me an updated estimate, but he did not remeasure the roof because he said he still had the measurements from 2 years ago. He also agreed to fix some siding damage (also due to the wind) for free. The work started a day later than originally scheduled due to snow. However, the materials were delivered on the original date (now a day early) at 6AM (woke the whole house way too early)! Tom said he would speak with the supplier about the bad timing. We were worried to see the materials left on the roof for the entire day but luckily they stayed up there alright. The next day, work started about 9AM (after we left) and I got updates from Tom throughout the day. We came home around 6PM and Javier (the foreman) and his crew were just wrapping up). Javier showed me around to see what they did. I pointed out that they missed a small section of the siding and I also wanted some vent/chimney painted, and they complied. Javier showed me around one more time afterwards and left around 7PM when I was satisfied with the work. They cleaned up outside the house pretty well. There were debris in the attic, in the bathroom where the skylight was replaced, and some ceiling plaster (luckily, only small pieces) fell down in the living room. But the indoors debris was expected and did not take us that long to clean.

Very professionally done in one day. Returned two days later when we noticed a closing issue with the garage door and they refit the framing. The only issue was the width of the siding which we stated to be the same as the house but was not. We should have insisted on having the house siding measured but we didn't know we needed to. Overall though a very nice job.

I was told that since they did not install the roof, they won't help me diagnose the problem, nor will they do repairs. I am a new homeowner and therefore do not know if they installed the roof, but probably not. I find it disappointing that they won't touch my roof unless it's a full replacement. I thought everyone should know that before wasting your time contacting them.

Response from Certified Roofing
First and foremost, we apologize for any confusion or frustration this has caused. We, as a company, do not take on repair work unless the repair is needed for a customer that has a warranty from us on a roof, siding or gutters installed by us. On our end, we described very well in our "Services Not Offered" section that we do not take on repairs, however Angie's List recently changed their policies and the "Services Not Offered" box does not show up on our page. Angie's List did not make our company aware of that change and are taking responsibility and rectifying this situation on their end. We have revised our page to reflect the appropriate services. Again, we apologize for the confusion. Thank you, Certified Incorporated.

All in all things went well. The initial date had to be postponed several times due to weather and temperature conditions, no fault of Certified. Once the weather cooperated, things went exactly as planned.
Description of Work: Certified removed the existing flat roof, replace three sheets of rotten wood, applied a three layer torch down roof. All work was completed in one day while I was away. There was no trash, roof materials or nails left in the yard. Jim Lessig, my contact, promised that I would not have further ice damming as in the past. So far, through the several snow and frigid temps since the new roof was installed, there has been no ice damming.

I requested pictures of the completed roof and Jim Lessig stated that it would not be a problem. When the roof was completed I received an invoice on December 16, 2013. I contacted Mr. Lessig informing him that I received the invoice and I needed to see the pictures. Mr. Lessig sent a picture of a damaged area but not the pictures of the completed roof. He informed me that he would send them after the holiday. I was contacted by the administrative office about the payment of the bill after the holiday in January 2014. I informed the office that I was waiting to see the pictures of the completed roof. Mr. Lessig called me and said that pictures were not part of the contract and I needed to pay the bill. He also told me that my roof was not under warranty until I paid the bill. I refused to pay the bill until I received the pictures. Mr. Lessig agreed to take the pictures but also stated that the chimney covers which I ordered were not in yet. I asked him why I was being billed and the work was not complete. At this point I decided to contact the owner Tom Keehn who was very helpful and tried to make amends. I received the pictures of the completed roof and Mr. Keehn provided the chimney covers at no cost.

Mr. Keehn met with me at our residence to review the proposed work and talk through his recommendations. He wrote a proposal on the spot and discussed it with me to make sure I understood what was being provided and what potential extra costs could be (in my case extra costs would come from replacement of wood deck, if needed). He indicated that work would take two days. He also pointed out that no payment would be due until the work was complete and I was satisfied. (Certified was the only roofer who offered this). I did use their general Angie's List coupon which reduced the total project cost by $250. I applied for the building permit and scheduled the date for roof work with Certified's office. Since roof work is weather dependent and we were attempting roof replacement in the late Fall we had to reschedule twice. We were given two days notice prior to the start of work to take advantage of a break in the weather (if you are planning roof work be aware that you may need to be flexible on the start date because of weather conditions). A delivery of materials was made a few days in advance in stored in our backyard and on the roof. (Be aware that a delivery vehicle will need to get close to the house for unloading and lifting materials onto the roof. Our backyard is not yet improved so we allowed the vehicle to drive on the grass. If you have finished landscape around your house deliveries and roof access can be more complicated and perhaps increase costs.) I met the roofing crew in the morning and went through their plans including where they could park and stage materials. We have a small yard and got permission from the neighbor to use his yard as well. This crew did not need access to the inside of our house and I did not leave the house open when were out during the day. Be forewarned that roof removal in row house is very loud. Scraping, banging, pounding echo inside of the house and extend to the neighboring houses as well. I had informed my neighbors ahead of time about the work, but was still surprised how loud the removal of the old roof was. Installation of the new roof was by comparison much quieter, but still noisy inside the house. The work was substantially complete in two days with some minor work on the flashing on the third day. I reviewed the work progress each day with the foreman and a final time when they were almost complete. I found the work to be high quality and well executed by workmen who clearly knew what they were doing. The foreman treated my project as if it were his own house and specifically reviewed details and any questions with me to make sure I was comfortable with the work. Due to the design of our building, our roof replacement necessitated patching a strip of the neighboring roofs on either side of our house. The crew treated this repairs with equal care to make sure the new work was equal to or better than the existing roofing. All in all I was pleased with the work done and would certainly recommend this roofing company.

I cannot say enough good things about Certified. They are one of the best companies I have ever dealth with. We had contacted several companies (10) from Angie's List to come out and give us an estimate for a new roof and work on our dormers. We loved that not only did we receive a full estimate before they left but Jim actually sat down and talked to us about roofing and the installation process. While there were other companies that offered things we liked, this was the only company that had everything. They had a great estimate process, great warranty, and their estimate was reasonable. In addition to having a new roof installed we also had four dormers that needed a lot of work. Rotted wood needed to be replaced and we had them wrapped in aluminum coil stock. Certified was the only company that really took the time to discuss what are options were in regards to dormers. They were amazing as far as discussing different options in different price ranges and actually listened to us in terms of what we wanted to do and found reasonable options that met our needs. They also helped us get samples needed so our HOA could approve the work that needed to be done. During the installation process, they communicated with us regularly and completed the job in the timeframe promised. Afterwards, I had one request regarding trimming out the coil stock at the bottom of the windows. There was no issues with the work, they had installed everything properly; it was just my preference regarding how it looked. They had a crew come back within two days and did everything we requested. The crew was really concerned about us being happy and didn't leave until we were 100% satisfied. We would recommend Certified to anyone!

Initially when I requested an estimate, from Certified Inc, to install my roof it was largely based on the stellar reviews they had received on Angie's list. After having them perform the work I can honestly say the reviews are well earned and absolutely correct. My first postive impression was when I met with the co-owner, Jim Lessig, I found him to be very knowledgable and straight forward. He did not engage in high pressure sales tactics and gave me an estimate that was very reasonable. I had received estimates from 4 other local roofing companies and Certified's was second to the lowest. In addition to my favorable impression of Jim, I liked the warranty on the work and the fact that the foreman who would be overseeing my job had been with the company since it started (or close to when it started). Unfortunately, the day that they were scheduled to start, the weather was forecasting snow. They contacted me immediately and reschdued. The person on the other end (I am not sure of the young woman's title) was very pleasant and helpful. As Jim promised, the materials were delivered the day before work was to begin. On the day they began work, the foreman, who was also very pleasant, introduced himself and told me exactly what to expect over the next couple of days. If my memory serves me correctly, the crew consisted of 3-4 others, excluding the foreman. They had a very good work ethic meaning they actually worked and seemed to be very respectful of my neighbors (e.g. they tried to make sure that the trash was piled up neatly agianst my home so it did not look like an eye sore.) They completed the task within the promised two days and cleaned everyting up. One of the other roofing companies, who had provided me with an estimate, mentioned that there was a lot of mold on the decking in my attic and it would need to be replaced (he esimated 15-20 sheets). When I mentioned this to the foreman we both went to look at the area in question and he said that the decking was OK and explained to me why the work was not necessary. I appreciated his honestly, since he could have agreeed with the other roofing company and just performed the work which would have increased the cost of my bill. After the work was completed I received follow up phone calls from both the fore mentioned young woman and Jim to see if the work had been completed to my satisfaction. It had been. Finding someone to perform work in your home can be very stressful. I am very appreciative of Certified 's effort at minimizing that stress and for perofrming quality work.

One of the best companies that I have ever dealt with. I have had numerous things done to my house since I purchased it this fall and the best decision I made was getting Certified to rip off my old roof. They were here for about a week because it took much longer than they estimated to get all the work done (because the original roof from 100 yrs ago was still on the house and also because I kept adding more work) but they were on time each day, extremely professional, and cleaned up everything after they were done. I have recommended them to everyone I know and feel great knowing that their work is guaranteed for many years to come.

Recently, there were a few rainstorms and we became aware our 20 year old roof was leaking into our home in two places. We had many companies come and provide quotes. Certified's price was not the lowest we received, but we selected them because they offered a lifetime warranty. Considering we had a lot of headache to mediate the rain the leaked into our home, we wanted to avoid any future problems by going with a company that could offer a lifetime warranty even if it cost more. I learned the hard way a lifetime warranty is useless if the company offering it won't honor it. Work started on a weekend we were out of town. This was for the better so we didn't have to hear any construction noise. When we returned home Sunday, Certified's abandoned truck was parked in our driveway blocking our garage and no one was working on our roof. When we called Certified to ask why no work was occurring and why our garage was blocked, they informed us they didn't think the garage needed to be accessed because we were out of town the last few days and they don't work on Sundays. So... they just left their vehicle parked overnight at our house? Weird. Next they had to send someone out to move the truck so we could get our cars out of the garage (still, this person did not work on the roof, they only came to move their truck). All of this was news to us. This was the first poor communication step in what was about to become a roofing nightmare. Next, we tried to use the water in our home and found the pressure to be next to nothing. Suspecting it was related to the roof work, we called Certified again and were told *sometimes* the roofers use the homeowner's hoses to test waterproofedness of the roof and they forget to turn them off leading to low home water pressure. Certified couldn't confirm if they used our hoses or not because neither their customer service people that answer the phone nor Jim who does the quotes (and who returns calls after customer service calls him) is not actually there at your home when roof work is performed. Certified sends a team of non-English speakers that clearly don't report full information back to their bosses. So, if you have questions such as about if hoses were left on, you have to call in, have the sales lady tell Jim to call you back, and Jim will tell you what he suspects but doesn't know for sure because he wasn't actually ever at your installation. We then went outside and checked both hoses and sure enough, Certified had left our hoses on all weekend. So, we as home owners were crawling through our backyard looking at hoses, not to mention all the water we wasted and high water bill resulting from this. Although this was annoying, we could have lived these minor complaints until the whole project blew up. Once the roof was done, I had some questions about why the tiles did not look flat. They were a little lumpy in some places. I spoke with a worker about my concerns. He was a nice guy, but didn't speak enough English to understand what I was asking. He had to hand me his cell phone to talk with someone who spoke better English. It was my understanding the worker told me he would fix this, but when he left it was never fixed. I can only assume he didn't understand my English and it was lost in translation as I tried to tell the person over the cell phone what I was seeing. Again, extremely disjointed service and poor communication. I would highly recommend anyone looking at roofing service go with a company that the guy who does the quotes also oversees your project in person. Sending in a smooth talker to write a quote and then a "b-team" of non English speakers to do the work just doesn't make for a smooth project. The next problems occurred once the mediation company (a different company unrelated to Certified) came in to repair the damage caused by water leaking in our home through the old roof that Certified had just replaced. They found a joist/cross beam that was completed rotted from water damage and snapped in half, meaning no support was provided to the roof. Certified had just nailed a 2x4 between the broken pieces and placed a new flat board on top of the beam WITHOUT TELLING US. The water damage mediation company was appalled and had to have a work stoppage. The damage was so bad, we had to file a home insurance claim to get it fixed. When I sent pictures of this to Jim at Certified and asked him to come assess what had happened, he had no knowledge of the problem because I am sure the foreman never told him. Like I said, he wasn't there when the roof was installed. After checking with his foreman, he admitted they had found "minor" water damage but it was okay because "we didn't invoice you for it". Only when my home insurance followed up with Jim, did he admit to them the damage was "major". Certified had attempted to brush over the significant water damage by encapsulating it with boards and not informing me and tried to spin it as helpful because they didn't invoice me!!!!!! Truthfully, I would rather have been told AND invoiced! I can only assume they didn't tell me (and didn't invoice me) because they knew it would have caused a work stoppage on the project as we addressed this problem. Certified appears to care about how quickly they get paid and complete a job instead of doing a thorough job. Had we not fixed this properly, I assume more water damage and mold would have spread through my roof and attic years after Certified was paid to "fix" our roof problems. I asked Jim to come look at this problem while the area was still torn open by the mediation company. He was very unwilling to come, claiming to be very busy. I finally suggested he send someone else out and he agreed to this. Twenty minutes later he called me back to tell me he could no longer come, but he would sent another worker out to tear open the top of the roof (the part they already replaced) and if it was in good shape, I would have to pay them an additional $1,200 for this assessment. I was absolutely floored. I would think Certified would stand by their work and want to make things right for the customer, but not only did they refuse to honor their "lifetime" warranty, they wanted to charge me to check their own shoddy work! In addition to this, Jim's tone was condescending and lacked professionalism, "I don't have x-ray vision. How should I know if there is water damage?". Conversations with Jim were heated and unfriendly. Certified definitely did not want to make this right for us. Overall due to Certified's attitude, poor communication, and lack of worker's supervision by management I am guessing there are likely other shortcuts and problems with the new roof that I am unaware of. I am absolutely kicking my self for working with Certified because of the warranty they won't honor when another company offered me a lower price for the exact same roof (same brand tile and everything). I am considering following up with the manufacturer of the roof tile to let them know their distributor Certified is not representing them well. My neighbor who has a 7,000 square foot house asked me if we liked our roofers and if we would recommend them and I told they absolutely not, so I would hope Certified lost their business as well as others who read this review. I would say RUN, DON"T WALK away from Certified!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's unfortunate that this member felt they had to write a review like this based on their experience with us. However, without getting into a line by line rebuttal of this review, we would like to let our Angie's List customers know that have a much different account of what actually took place before, during, and after this job.

The quoted price was almost as cheap as the cheaper companies that did not give me a good feeling and quite a bit less that folks like LeafGuard (through Costco). The owner told me it would take 2 days and they could start after a week. They started 4 days after I called and had it done in a day. The foreman suggested we add a downspout (a suggestion that I had rejected from the owner). He explained why it would be good and worked with me to find a placement to make it work for me physically. They did not even charge me extra. They did a good cleanup as well. The only very minor issue I had was that they fixed one of the gutters on top of a plant vine rather than removing the vine. As I say, very minor.

We went with Certified due to their reviews on Angie's List and because they're an authorized trained installer for Certainteed shingles. Also, their price was the least expensive out of three estimates we received. I was concerned about the colors as they were showing up on-line so they arranged for me to go and look at the shingles at Certified's wholesale distributor location. They were great and I picked one out right away. The next week after selecting the shingles they were out to install them. Scheduling was fine. They completed the work as promised. Around the shrubs and grass they cleaned up but I did double check the work and found six nails. They had a foreman who was very responsive and would move his truck as needed. They were great. The work comes a 50 year warranty because they're an authorized installer.
Description of Work: They completely replaced our roof with Certainteed shingles. These fiberglass shingles reflect the sun and hae an insulation quality to them. They're Certainteed's only fiberglass shingles. I've been monitoring my energy bill and each month is less than that year's corresponding month by about $30-$60 per month. A team of six completed the work in three days.

1/13/14 - This is a revision to my initial review, which outlined concerns that i had with the project costs. Since posting the review in December, i had the opportunity to talk with Tom, the owner, and discuss what transpired. Tom was understanding and responsive to my feedback. As a result of our discussion, we were able to pinpoint the factors that contributed to the misunderstanding of the project costs. Also, Tom offered to take specific corrective actions, all of which are very reasonable. I was very impressed with Tom and believe his actions reflect thecompsny's commitment to satisfying it's customers. I would contact Certified for future projects. More important, Angie's List really does work! Thanks Angie.

Response from Certified Roofing
We at Certified understand that most homeowners are not roofing experts, this is why we include very specific details in our scope of work. Here is the exact wording from part of the contract that this customer was presented, signed off on, and she is now contending: Roof areas to be done include: UPPER REAR 18’X10’ BUMP OUT ROOF ONLY. If the main house FLAT roof is replaced at the same time as the upper rear bump out roof, add ($4,200.00) to the contract cost. ( YES OR NO ) This customer’s roof was split into 4 different and clearly defined sections (front porch roof, front mansard shingle roof, main house flat roof, and rear bump out roof). When we were called out to this customer’s home for a FLAT roof estimate she showed us the interior water damage on her rear bump out interior wall. After concluding that the water damage was most likely coming from the rear bump out flat roof, we gave her an estimate to replace the rear bump out flat roof at a cost of ($4,120). The rear bump out roof also tied into her main house flat roof, so we also gave her an option to replace her main house flat roof for an additional $4,200, as it would have been cheaper and more efficient to do both at the same time. She chose “YES” on this option. At no time did she indicate that she wanted the front steep slope shingle roof or her front porch roofs replaced, and she stated that she wasn’t having any problems with them when asked their condition at the time of her estimate. There was nothing in the scope of work of her contract that specified any shingles, colors of shingles, or steep slope areas. After she contracted with us about a month after her initial estimate, we performed the roof replacement properly, on time, and to the specifications of her contract. What is frustrating about a situation like this is that I don’t know if there would have been any way to be clearer to the homeowner about what sections were being quoted without having her actually get up onto the roof with us. The estimate was typed up and explained thoroughly for about 30 minutes during the initial estimate. The areas that were being quoted were clearly explained during the initial consultation, and she didn’t let us know about her dissatisfaction until a few weeks after the job was completed. As you can tell by many of our reviews, we charge fair prices for excellent and honest work. This customer received a top notch roof with top notch workmanship on the areas she agreed to.

Probably the best experience as I've ever had with a major home contract. Jim came out to give me an estimate within a day or two. He was able to generate on the spot a full, written document in which we worked together to specify the exact scope of the roof replacement and what it would cost. A few weeks later, after getting another couple estimates, we decided to hire Jim and Certified. We signed and sent back the contract, and their office started the process of ordering the materials immediately. They were completely responsive by both phone and email, and they scheduled the work to start only about 8 days after we'd signed the contract. The crew showed up on time and worked almost 10 hours on the first day ripping out the old roof and getting the new one started. They were extremely professional and conscientious and worked hard to make sure that the new roof was ready for the rain that was anticipated (and did come) the next day. As soon as everything dried, they went right back to work on the afternoon of day 2 and against stayed into the evening. Same for day 3, when they finished up and did an excellent job cleaning and hauling away the old roof debris. After the work finished, I went up on the new roof to take a look. It was 99% perfect, but there was one small area that hadn't been re-done. I sent Jim a couple pictures, and although there was some ambiguity about whether that area was within the scope of the job, he had a foreman come back out a couple days later to cover it without any complaint at all. That speaks volumes, and on top of the high quality of the job, would make me recommend Certified to anyone looking for roof work in DC.

Tom, the owner of Certified, responded to our request for a quote quickly and was the consummate professional during the estimation and roof installation process. His company's pricing and roofing warranty exceeded our expectations and the price was very fair in comparison with other companies. Jose and the crew were punctual, professional and fnished the job in about 2 days. Jose returned a few days later to reseal a skylight at no additional charge. We did have some minor screen damage from debris but this was handled efficiently by the team (labor and cost of repairs were taken care of). Overall, a very positive experience with Certified, Inc.!

Materials were delivered the day before as promised . The roofers arrived on time and completed the job in one day. Four men worked almost without a break. All old material was cleaned up and taken away. Communications with the crew and office were excellent. This is the most professional home improvement ever! I would recommend them to everyone.

We thought they did a great job. Their onsite foreman was very helpful and communicated with us. They did a very nice job. They also replaced one of the gutters on the side of the house because it was rotted so that is great too. Jim their sales guy looked at the roof, looked at the planking, and was very polite and they followed up with us. They got us on the books within a week of giving the estimate.
