Certified Roofing

We used Certified a few years ago for our roof and were extremely satisfied so we had them redo all of the exterior of our home with vinyl siding. They replaced the rotted wood as well as redoing the intricate pattern around the doorway (gable, sunburst, etc) We recommend Certified without hesitation. The crew was punctual, professional, and unbelievably efficient. Tom promised that our home (which is almost 50 years old) would look like new and it looks BETTER than new. We walk around the outside every day and admire the workmanship. In the 2 weeks since it was finished, we have had 2 offers to buy our home but it is not for sale!

We needed to replace the flat roofs on my house and my detached garage. After consulting and getting estimates from half a dozen roofers, we picked Certified Inc. Our choice was made based on the details in their contract, the price, and the warranty on the new roof. We have been totally pleased with our choice ? the workers are very professional. They worked long days and took care to clean up the debris from the old roof that had fallen around the house and yard before they left each day. They did an excellent job. I was told when they would start and how long the job would take and that is exactly how the work progressed. I have nothing but praise for this company.

I was impressed from the get-go by Certified. When Jim came out to give the estimate, he had reviewed Google Earth satellite photos of the roof, pinpointed the date the problem started, and measured the dimensions of the roof - all before a ladder even touched our house. Of four estimates we received from contractors, Certified's was the lowest. Jim was extremely patient in explaining the problems and uncertainties. Certified scheduled the work for us in less than two weeks. The fast turnaround turned out to be a good thing since the extent of damage to our roof was more than we anticipated. The Certified team did a nice job documenting and explaining the problems and making sure we wanted to proceed. Juan, the foreman, led a very professional team and was excellent. Our yard is cleaner after the fact than it was before. All things considered, we are very pleased with the work, although we are still waiting for the last finishing touches.

We chose to go with Certified Inc after getting multiple quotes for our roof replacement. All the quotes were about the same price, but Certified's warranty and little extras set them out from the competitors. Every interaction with their employees on the phone, in email, and in person was professional and responses to our queries (we had quite a few) were prompt. We had one minor problem with our install, which disappointed us a little especially since it was something we thought would be easily spotted during a post-install walk around. But, when we pointed out the issue, they were happy to resolve it promptly and professionally. Overall, I would recommend Certified, Inc. and would use them again in the future.

The craftsmanship was sloppy, what I saw is that they didn't use good safety practices. They piled all the roofing outside my back door. I had to call in my attorney to get them to make some adjustments. I was not satisfied with them at all. After they completed the job and I paid them, they never sent me a warranty.

I received five quotes for the roof, all of which were around the same price but Certified had the best warranty and great reviews so I went with them and I am very happy. I've had another contractor and neighbors ask for their information because they were impressed with how hard the worked and how quickly they got the job done. The roof looks great, I can only assume it will function well. They were able to do the work a week after giving me the quote. The work was delayed by one day due to rain but they rescheduled me for the next day and finished the job in less time then they estimated. I am very happy with their work.

Everything from the walkthrough, to pricing, to final installation went smoothly. Would definitely work with Certified Inc again and am strongly considering them for siding replacement in the near future.

This company has performed excellently on both jobs at our home, first with replacing our entire roof last year and this year replacing our gutters. Very professional, we would recommend Certified Incorporated to family and friends.

I had received two other estimates on replacing my 31 year old roof before Jim, the co-owner came out and gave me his estimate. Right away, I was impressed with his professionalism and he patiently goes over everything in great detail without being pushy. The office staff customer service is also exceptional. That is what impressed me the most about this company is their superior customer service. I had a few concerns after the roof was installed, so I sent an email to Jim on a Sunday. Within ten minutes he responded back to say that everything would be taken care of ASAP. I received an email/phone call from the office manager the next day to say that everything would be taken care of and it was. I am 100% satisfied and would use them again.

Great overall experience. Reasonable price. Beat other quotes we got. Skylight was a good deal. Everyone was knowledgeable and friendly. One of the owners, Jim, came out himself to talk to us and give the estimate. He was easy to talk to and willingly discussed the other estimates we received. This was a big contrast to another company that came out and wasted a lot of our time being pushy and trying to upsell us. The office manager was great with scheduling and providing reminders of the appointment and start date. Work was performed within 2 weeks of us signing the contract. The team came out on time on the scheduled days and worked for the full day. The job was finished on time. This was remarkable since our old roof took more work to remove than expected and was accomplished by the team putting in a couple long (hot!) days. The crew was really great - friendly, knowledgeable, kept everything clean and kept us informed of the progress. They were also very willing to work with us on changes/ issues that came up (we had a non-functional stack that needed to be removed). We are extremely happy with the final product!

It went very, very well. They also put a fan in my attic and that was difficult to get to, but they did it, and they did it beautifully.

Beginning with meeting the estimator Jim, he arrived exactly on time. Jim explained the whole process of how they replace flat roofs and let me know that if there was water damage to the plywood that would be an additional cost. Not being able to pull up the roof, it was nice to have advance notice of a possible extra charge that we may incur. Jodie from their office was extremely professional and attentive to our needs. Because of rain our job was pushed back a few days, but Jodie was great in explaining the delay. The workers arrived on time and did a great job. We are very satisfied with the work they performed and the company.

I live in a DC row house and I was experiencing leak in my first floor powder room whenever there was a heavy down pour of rain. It started a couple of years ago and I could not figure out where it was coming from. My daughter, who lives next door to me, discovered Certified on Angie's list and used them in January to replace her roof. They did a phenomenal job. They took the old roof down to the studs and completely replaced it. I left for work the morning they started the replacement and the following day they removed every bit of materials from her yard. The work they did on my roof is in a narrow space between my house and my neighbor's and it took them about 4 hrs. to do the work. They explained every aspect of work that they did and removed all the materials when they were finished. They also cleaned my gutters in the back of the house and the front as well. If I need my roof replaced, I definitely will call them again.

These details began two years ago and have ended with 15 VERY happy homeowners all giving Certified perfect reviews to match the 99% of prior reviews. They are real, this is the best roofing company in the area. I'm on the board of our HOA (130 homes) and researched with Angie's List then BBB and other sources on roofing. I learned WAY more about roofs than anyone not in the business should ever know. I also spent considerable time on roofing forums for the industry and investigated shingle companies. Then I interviewed a select group of well-reviewed roofers and negotiated potential group discounts for multiple homeowners offering a contractor economies of scale but the core essence of the process is and was that each of us will only do this once in our life and we all wanted the best quality possible. Some of our homeowners aren't in our List-Serv and in spite of trying to make contact with everyone, we did watch several other contractors get some of the roofs. Some chose slightly less expensive contractors but did not get the same quality. Ultimately, Certified was chosen over ALL other contractors for a wide variety of positive reasons and no negative reasons. 80% of roofing companies are gone within 5 years, this is a multi-decade company with great management. I am sure you can get a slightly less expensive roof from others (perhaps 10%) but it won't be apples to apples and you won't have this quality or backup. Tom Keehn, Certified's owner and main estimator, and his team were professional, responsive, willing and able to offer us the best quality at as low a price as is possible for the same materials and quality of work and warranty. Unlike ALL other companies, he recognized that he was dealing with a bunch of very busy, well educated folks, in half million dollar plus houses that were not interested in the typical home remodeler "one call close" meeting. Virtually all other's didn't understand this dynamic and ended up missing out on the deal or forcing the issue creeping out many neighbors with overbearing pushiness, and this is coming from me, a lifetime professional salesman! I have found that CertainTeed and GAF are likely the two best shingle companies and the professionals who do the work seem to prefer CertainTeed by three or four to one over anything else. All of our homeowners selected either the regular 30-year shingles and most chose the upgrade to the Landmark AR 50-year warranty and 3-D or dimensioinal shingles for looks and greater weight, longevity and durability. All roofs were done with high tech underlayment material like a Tyvek instead of felt like so many others use. The roof "system" provided is warranted by the shingle manufacturer whether Certified is around or not and is also, importantly, transferable to the next homeowner when sold which eliminates any "roof deduction" when we decide to move on. Many homeowners and I also had Certified install new, larger, 6" gutter systems which was needed on our large 3300 square foot colonial where the standard 5" gutters were too small and poorly installed from 18 years ago. In addition to the normal roofing and gutter work, I needed old, rotting crown molding around my Williamsburg style dormers replaced. One of Certified's five crews does this kind of carpentry work and they replaced all of the wood with PVC, caulked and painted it so I won't ever have that problem with wood again. I organized 15 homeowner roofs over the last year by Certified and I cannot recommend them with high enough praise. My roof and gutters has dramaically improved the curb appeal of our home and even though we might have been able to wait until problems surfaced, we no longer have to worry about the costs of damage should our old and ugly roof spring a leak. Peace of mind, quality work and 50 years is wonderful.

Around June 30, 2015, Jim came to my house to provide an estimate to replace my roof and skylight. Jim was very friendly and patient. He walked me through the process and described the materials used (Certaineed products) and their 5 Star Warranty. After he left, I performed some market research to determine if the price was reasonable and to determine the company?s past performance. Based upon the 4 quotes I received for similar or identical products, Certified Inc. Offered the best price and the best warranty. Furthermore, based on Angie?s list and other sources, Certified Inc has an impeccable record. Certified came out on time and did an outstanding job. They went above the call of duty. In addition to installing a new roof and skylight, I asked one of the roofing technician to clean some bird mess off one of the windows for me since it was in a hard to reach area. The technician did it without complaining. I am truly grateful. Lastly, the customer service that I received via phone from scheduling to billing was exceptional. I would definitely recommend Certified Inc. to anyone.

It went very well. They finished before time. The thing that I like is that they take part off the roof the old shingles and they put the paper down and THEN they put the new shingles down. Its done in steps to protect the roof. They prepare it for the environment so there is no damage. They do it the RIGHT way. I already recommended them to my friends/family and neighbors.

I phoned Tom about 6:30 AM on Friday telling him that something had come up and we could not have the roof and siding replaces as scheduled. The Certified roofing team arrived as I was talking with Tom. Tom had his crew leave the materials at our house and rescheduled us for the following week. The Certified Inc. team willing worked with us on very short notice and they did a great job the following week. I would recommend them to anyone.

Extremely satisfied with the work; the work was done on time and the cleanup was excellent. I would highly recommend this company. The price was also reasonable.

Working with Certified, Inc . was a breath of fresh air. We got three vendor bids that were all competitively priced. Certified was head and shoulders above the competition when it came to making the appointment with the delightful office staff and meeting with the co-owner, Jim, who provided an estimate and thorough explanation of the work that would be completed. The workers were punctual, hard working and cleaned up when the job was complete. They appear to have done an excellent job. I would highly recommend Certified.

They did everything they said they were going to do. They were punctual. This was a complicated job and their good experience showed their craftsmanship. The yard was clean after the job was complete. RECOMMENDED!!!!

They were punctual and worked non-step despite upper 90 degree heat (hotter on the roof.) They also removed and replaced two skylights. They did a wonderful job of cleaning up. I highly recommend this company for anyone looking to install a new roof.

First off - you may want to know that Certified Inc offers $50 discount for clients that leave a positive review on Angie's List. This isn't necessarily unethical, but may incentivize reviews and skew reviewers in their favor... Despite several very minor setbacks (they forgot to have forms filled out for the permit, they rescheduled start dates twice, I had to micromanage that the work be done as Certified agreed, the tarp laid in back yard covered & killed my plants, they didn't properly clean up, and more...) I initially left a positive review. I figured as long as the roof was eventually done well, I'm happy. No company would be perfect. The owners seemed nice and I figure there's always going to be a few small issues with any job... BUT weeks after my roof was replaced, my next door neighbor (it's a dc townhouse) was getting estimates to have his roof replaced. The roofers who came to give him estimates AND his friend / general contractor all inspected my roof and criticized the job done by Certified. Their main criticism (one of several) was that Certified did a "standard "quick" job. They did not "metal flash" the exposed edges of the roof properly and that it is susceptible to premature failure." Of course after spending $9,800 to have my roof replaced, I wanted these comments addressed by Certified -Jim or Tom (the owners). Maybe my neighbor's roofers just wanted to criticize their competition. Maybe there is little truth to their claims? But I don't know. I'm not a roofer... I just wanted Jim to address my concerns -examine my roof and show that I have nothing to worry about... I made several attempts to contact Jim for a response, and he will not even return my calls or emails regarding these comments. It's been weeks now. I've given them plenty of time before coming and adjusting my review here on Angie's List. Before Certified was paid for the job, Jim was very accessible. He always answered his phone. But now I can't get a call back... What good is a warranty or anything, if nobody will respond to potential issues? I am now having a family friend/roofer (who doesn't work in dc - no conflict of interest) and having my own general contractor (who used to work on roofs, but no longer does) come and review their work... I'm paying them for an honest assessment. I'm really hoping they will come back and tell me that Certified's roofers did a fine job -and if so, I will return to Angie's List and adjust my review... The stressful part is that if there are issues - Jim & Tom from Certified Inc are MIA. This is also very shortsighted of Jim and Tom because outside of running an SEO business, I have two other rental properties. One of my homes actually needs a roof now, and I was really hoping to have found a company that I trust for the job. Instead I'm now back reading reviews and looking for an honest company on google/Angle's list. If you're reading this, good luck on your search. I would not recommend you use Certified Inc for your roof repair or replacement...
