Things started off well, with Phil being enthusiastic about the job. He came by to show me a proof, at which time I pointed out that the font of the sign was incorrect. He took a copy of the correct font and art and assured me it would be correct. I asked to see another proof, but he said that he understood what needed to be done, and would do it right. The day of the install, the sign was 100% up before I was consulted about it. The font and logo were incorrect, as he had stretched them out to fit the space. When I pointed this out, he was very reluctant to admit that it didn't look right. I remarked again that I had asked for a proof, and showed him again what the art was supposed to look like. I gave him the information again for my graphic designer, who he never contacted throughout the whole project. He finally agreed to fix the lettering, but refused to fix the logo or the metal seam that goes through the middle of my logo. When he returned to replace the letters, he again got the spacing wrong. He became very angry when I pointed this out - I reminded him that I repeated asked for proofs, and showed him on our card and logo how it was incorrect. He told me that he thought "I got a pretty good sign for the money." From a distance the sign does it's job, but it is absolutely not what I requested or what was agreed upon. Phil repeatedly ignored requests for better communication. He suggested I come to his shop after hours and look at the sign instead of bringing me a proof. I don't believe this is standard practice. The icing on the cake was when Phil posted my business name on Facebook saying that I was "cheap and too f-ing picky." Months later Phil then forwarded a bill to me from his electrician saying I was responsible since it was more than he estimated. Now, less than 6 months later, the base of the sign is falling apart, the color is fading, and the electric has already had to be fixed.
