When there were concerns, either his crew or Jeff addressed them immediately, without a hassle and professionally, giving great advice or making things right. I am extremely pleased with the end result. THANKS, Jeff and crew!

I can't say enough good things about Jeff and his team. They did a tremendous job on the project. Jeff visited personally and walked the area and gave me a number of suggestions. They installed the new fence in a very efficient manner and cleaned up the area very well. Would definitely recommend!!

The owner came out on a Saturday morning and measured the wall and while he was there gave me an estimate of the price for installing the new fence and removing the old fence. There was no pressure to complete the deal at that time and he said he would obtain any permits required to build the fence. I signed the contract for the aluminum fence and he proceeded to order the fence because they do not stock that particular fence. When the fence came in I was called and the next day three installers were there to install the new fence and remove the old one. He did take a long time because drilling holes for posts in brick walls takes a long time and a lot of effort not to crack the bricks. They cleaned up the area after the new installed and took away the old split rail fence.
Description of Work: He installed an aluminum ornamental fence on top of my retaining wall and removed the old split rail fence which was next to the wall. There was approximately 90 feet of aluminum fence to be installed.

We checked with several vendors and Jeff was very responsive and did an accurate site survey. Our yard is not level and the crew set the fence very well on the hill. What was outstanding was that we found we had a tree on a back corner that prevented one piece of fence from being placed. The crew told us that they would come back and finish after we had the tree removed. The tree person removed most of the tree but we still had a stump that was sticking up. We call and told Jeff that the tree had been removed. Late a day or two later, the crew showed up and finished the work.

Before we decided to contract Phoenix Fence, I looked at other local fence companies on Angie's List as well as the BBB. Phoenix Fence had the best reviews, and they had ZERO complaints with the BBB. The owner, Jeff came out to discuss the cost, and exactly what they'd do. After reviewing the contract, we decided that there was no need to get another estimate from another company. We wanted quality, not the cheapest price. So, we went with Phoenix Fence. The guys showed up a bit early and worked all day, with just a lunch break. The quality of workmanship was awesome. 99% of the fence was done in one day, they were a bit short on the materials and came back the next day to finish off the job. We got the Wyngate fence with lattice. The lattice material is 3/4" thick, maybe more!! The lattice is made by hand by the guys at Phoenix Fence. Not the cheap 1/8" stuff you'd find elsewhere. Yes, I'd recommend these guys!! You won't be disappointed.

Jeff came out for the estimate as scheduled, despite bad weather. He took measurements and wrote the detailed proposal at my dining room table so I didn't have to wait for it to come in the mail a week or two later. He was polite and professional, and offered his judgment about various options (both pro and con). The work was completed in less than a full day, about 3 weeks after I sent my deposit. The workers were polite, professional and highly skilled. The price was comparable to other quotes I received, and he accepted the Angie's List discount. As an added touch, he gave me a cedar gate and did not charge extra for it. It was a very positive experience, and I would not hesitate to highly recommend Phoenix Fence.

The service went very well and the fence is beautiful. There was slight confusion about replacing an existing fence but Jeff was quick to come by before the crew left and he straightened it out. They were marginally more expensive than other quotes received for the same work but I selected them over others for their integrity. They were very clear about doing it right (building permit and HOA approval) when others told me that building permits were optional and only a way to get more in property taxes. That told me that they wouldn't take shortcuts when doing the work.

The Angie's List Guide to Signing a Contract states: "The key to having a successful project is to have a well-developed contract that doesn?t leave anything out. Everything from the types of materials used to the cleanup of the construction site should be included in the contract. If something goes wrong during any phase of the project, both you and the general contractor should be able to rely on the terms actually specified in the contract." Reference: https://www.angieslist.com/contractor/signing-a-contract.htm The provider submitted a contract omitting many details of the project, with a price of $3,204. In response, I drafted a contract specifying the project in more detail and addressing the possibility of damage to trees near the fence, with a price of $2,800. His response: "Unfortunately we are just too far apart price wise and you just don?t seem to understand, I could just go on and on but one example is there is no such thing as a 4 inch by 4 inch post. You are demands are unnecessary and do not make sense. I have several other jobs and new customers calling every day. I just do not have the time or energy to keep explaining everything to you." I drafted an even more detailed contract that completely specified the project and included most of the provider's terms from his original contract, with a price of $3,000. His response: "I have moved on. You are trying to low ball me and, I am already backed up two weeks. Also, I do not sign customers contracts."
Description of Work: The provider and I were unable to agree on a contract for a fence project.

Unfortunately me and him could not come to an agreement. Because his brother in law or something like that was a lawyer or something and he wanted me to sign a contract where the post are 4 inches by 4 inches. there is no such thing a 4 inch by 4 inch post. He also had all of these different little clauses that made no sense. He even tried to pay me half up front, which is illegal in the state of Maryland. You are only allowed to have a third upfront. He tried to tell me how much the material was going to cost. How much the job should cost and how much I should profit. I just felt like since he knew so much about fencing, maybe he should start his own fencing company. My reputation should speak for it self. Since I have won the service award on Angieslist for six straight years in a row. I go all the way back to 2001 with the better business bureau and have a A+ rating. Every customer is not a perfect fit for Phoenix fence and deck.

Jeff took care of the installation of a double in-swinging gate and another smaller in-swinging gate. Jeff was courteous, responsible, punctual and very professional. The installation process was not easy because of several issues with the gates delivered by the other contractor. Jeff and his staff intelligently took care of the installation to ensure that the design flaws would not affect the quality of his work. Additionally, when some issues with the welding of latches arose, Jeff took it upon himself to address the matter promptly and swiftly. I am glad I chose his company.

Jeff was great to work with and very responsive. We did most things via email and he was on top of it every time. The crews showed up when he said they would and the job took the anticipated amount of time. Nice that there was no delay! The crew onsite was professional and cleaned everything up when done. I was very impressed overall with not only the fence - anyone can put one of those up - but with the way the business was conducted. Very nice interaction!

I am sorry the member feels that way. Evidently he forgot about the 30 min grace period that I ask for. If you take that into account, I was 20 min early. There is a design of fence specific to that area of Montgomery Village that is poorly designed by an architect and will not stand the test of time. It is also made out of western red cedar and it has a 1 x 8 board which is next to impossible to get since Mozells lumber in Kensington went out of business. I would not want to build that fence style as my reputation would be on the line because of the poor design. He is not the first person I have turned down in that community. Another contractor referred me to Jeff, the owner, when that contractor was unable to help my mother in Rockville, MD to dig out. Jeff contacted me right away after he was told I needed help. He came within hours and with a helper removed the snow and thick ice from the access road and the driveway. He and helper worked for hours to break up the ice and to spread ice/snow removal mixture. Jeff is very friendly and worked until the sun set. Because of the scarcity of contractors and the last minute request, the price was high. Would hire Phoenix Fence again.

PHOENIX CHARGED $1557 FOR CROOKED FENCE; COMPANY BULLIED ME FOR SEEKING REMEDY FOR POOR WORK; MISLED ME ABOUT LEGAL REMEDIES Fence is crooked/curves pretty badly ? short fence (59' ) a full 14 inch variance from back to front which is noticeable. Evidently the crew didn't use a chalk line or other tools to ensure their work was straight. I provided a survey, which if followed would have enabled an accurate fence. I asked Jeff to come review the job last July, and we did not connect at that time. Finally, early May he came out. He arrived a half hour early. INTENTIONALLY UNPREPARED TO REVIEW HIS CREW'S JOB? He did not bring the right tools to assess/measure the job ? he didn't bring a chalk line or long tape measure. Not sure why he wouldn't bring these to assess whether his crew did their job right. ACTED UNPROFESSIONALLY, YET ACCUSES CLIENTS OF UNPROFESSIONALISM: Once I demonstrated that the posts were off by 14", he asserted I bore all the responsibility, and then suddenly cut off the conversation, saying I was being unprofessional. LEGALLY MISLEADING: Jeff then asserted my only legal recourse was to seek arbitration through the Maryland Home Improvement Commission ? which is not only not accurate, there is not even an arbitration clause in the Phoenix Contract. In his final email, the company owner said replied, "I am sorry you are unhappy with the placement of the fence. If you were willing to spend roughly $1000 to a survey company to stake [your] property this would have been a non-issue but you were trying to cut corners and now this is where your fence is placed according to the contract. Once again if you knew it was 7ft why would you sign a contract for 6t? That is, in addition to the $1500 I spent on the fence, I needed to spend $1000 for a survey ? his crew couldn't use a chalk line to mark off a straight line back from his diagram to ensure a professional job with right angles and straight lines. Professionalism is the client's responsibility. A failure to bringing in additional surveyors etc. is the client "cutting corners." Client beware.

Response from Phoenix Fence & Deck
Fence contractors whether Phoenix Fence or any other company, are not survey companies. I explain this to every customer I meet when I do an estimate. The customer is not unhappy with the fence, he found out later that there were 7ft to the line but we only installed 6ft. He expected Phoenix Fence at no expense to him, to move the entire fence over one foot free of charge. He was so disrespectful when I did meet with him that I walked away with him following me like a mad man. I explained to him, that we could contact the MHIC (Maryland Home Improvement Commission) and have an arbitrator come out and that I was will to do whatever they felt I did wrong and correct it. He is so wrong in his assessment that he is telling everyone that it is a cedar fence when it is clearly a pressure treated pine fence, which I explain to everyone has 2% warpage. The picture he posted was just taken - the fence has been up for 11 1/2 months. The fence is pretty darn straight for a fence that has been up through a summer and a winter. You do not use a chalk line for any part of fencing, you use a string line. It is a shame in 15 years of installing thousands of fences that I finally find someone that I could not please. It clearly states on the back of the contract that we cannot be responsible for property lines. It also clearly states on the survey that the customer provided me, and any survey that they are not to be used to determine property lines for fences, garages, buildings or other future improvements. I am terribly, terribly sorry that the customer is so unhappy. Best Regards, Jeff Rogers Owner/ Operator Phoenix Fence and Deck jeff@phoenixfenceanddeck.com Cell: (240) 832-2641

I called Jeff yesterday and told him that my gardener had noticed some pieces of concrete still remaining in the area near the fence. He immediately sent Alberto, one of his workers, early this morning to do the job. Alberto picked up every last piece of concrete, even some sticks and an old plastic chair that someone had thrown over the fence and removed them. I appreciate Jeff's responsiveness and professionalism even after the work was completed. This is why a company's warranty is so important.

My fence and my neighbor's fence were deteriorating so we both decided to get a flatboard fence with cedar gates, sharing the cost of the common side. I had other estimates, but decided to go with Jeff's company because I needed to get mine done quickly and I wanted a local company. Jeff gave both of us a good price and got permission from the utilities company. The first day a 6-man crew demolished the fences, trimmed overhanging tree branches, put up the posts and crosspieces, cleaned up the mess, and hauled the old fence away. The second day a 5-man crew finished the fence, including the gates, cleaned up, and removed the debris. After all the work was completed, I inspected the fence and discovered a peephole in one of the vertical boards which they gladly replaced. All of the crew members were professional and punctual. Both my neighbor and I were very pleased with the results and would call them again.
