First visit was pleasant, concise, with a complete evaluation of what work was required. We agreed it was a small job, and he asked to fit the job in around his backlogged schedule, due to weather restrictions. We stayed in good email and phone contact while we tried to schedule around rain and snow. When they finally came, it was ontime, ready to work, they were precise, no surrounding areas were damaged, the area was cleaned up, and I tipped them for good service. I was glad to wait for the contractor with good references from Angie's List.
The two men who can out did good job were efficient with their time. After the men completed the work on my walls the owner called and said I'd have to pay for the additional time. I stated they showed up at 8:50am and left at 11:15am, well under the 4hrs.
The half a room they painted looks great, but the entire enterprise felt shady and completely lacked professionalism. On the other hand, if you want a job done right and done cheap, they did deliver.
"Thank you."
. rkThis was a $99 coupon that advertised 1 man for 4 hours or 2 men for two hours. Mr. Gomez, the owner came on January 16 to survey the scope of what needed to be done and said that he would call me early the next week to set a time for the repair. He did not call so I called him at the end of the week. He said it was too cold to work and that he would wait for warmer weather. A week or so later when warmer weather arrived, I called him and he said that I was on his list and that he would call soon. The call never came. On Saturday, February 16, one month to the day since he first came out, I called again and he assured me that i was on the list and he would call early the following week to set a date. The call never came.
On March 8, I got a call from my wife while I was at work saying that workmen were at the house. She said they had called but neither she nor I ever received a call alerting us that they planned to come. If I had gotten a call, I would have stayed home and watched them do the work to make sure that they filled in all the chips. As it turned out, they missed one of the chippped blocks.
In summary, this was a very small job that did not require a lot of expertise. However, i felt that the contractor did not pay attention to the importance of just basic communication. Frankly, I began to think that he wasn't going to bother to do the job because it was too small.
"I did a phone call one day before to let him we are going to star his job, i leave a message. Is not supposedly to paint but we did it for the same price because we are nice people. Equally small or big job is the same for us thank you."
"When is different color we need to paint two coats for cover very well, that bathroom was color white and she wants to paint color blue and we did it one coat and we need to wait three hours later to paint second coat because the people don't want to pay extra time is not our mistake we like to make good quality work but some times like this job we need to spend more time and costumer needs to pay more. I'm sorry."
"thank you."
"Thank you."
A full week later I emailed him to ask if he intended to schedule our job, giving him the days and times of our availability for scheduling; again, he completely ignored our availability. We finally worked out a date, and his email stated that he'd send two guys and that "I will send two men for two hours if they need more time for finish for each person is $90.00 by hour." The coupon states that the price is good for 4 consecutive man hours, and as it wasn't more than a four-hour job, I didn't think it was an issue. Buyer beware: apparently 4 man hours means ONE MAN. Angie's List and/or the Big Deal coupon is not clear about this, which is very frustrating.
The two men showed up today, within the hour window Mr. Gomez had given for arrival and were very polite and professional. They did a great job. Unfortunately, they used half the drywall we had on hand, and refused to use our joint compound, and then after talking to Mr. Gomez on the phone, charged me for an entire sheet of drywall and joint compound, as well as telling me I owed $180 in cash for the extra guy. I speak Spanish, and the guy who talked to Mr. Gomez asked if he was sure he needed to charge me for extra time! I then double-checked the coupon for the hour limit (they started at 8:35 and were done at 12:15), and was so taken aback by the additional charges and the phone conversation I heard that I paid for the drywall and joint compound. As I couldn't make sense of the four hour/two hour/extra man thing, I have not paid the extra $180 that Mr. Gomez wants to charge for the work. I did tell him I would call AL to try to figure out what happened with the coupon; it seems that with the extra man charge and the charge for the materials that were supposedly included, he'll get close to the full price that was quoted in the Big Deal ($360).
I am really happy with the work, but very unhappy with my Big Deal experience and Mr. Gomez,
"We need to have more be careful because jobs like this and costumer like this is never good relationship. This job we did first, cover all area we are going to work, second demolition removal plaster wall is BIG work, then install drywall, WE BOUGHT THIS FROM HOME DEPOT and we use our material because she had just regular join compound WE CAN NOT TO PUT SECOND COAT AND THE SAME TIME and we used easy 20 for dry more fast and then we can able to put two coats for finish plaster work. We spend more time and materials and she don't want to pay EXTRA TIME is not good. I SAY GOD KNOWS HOW MUCH WE WORK AND THE CUSTOMER KNOWS TOO, I DON'T LIKE TO DISCUSS BUT GOD WILL GOING TO HELP WITH US WITH MORE WORK THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR READ THIS MESSAGE."
They had to chip out the old, spalled brick and work new brick into it. The new bricks did not precisely match the old brick, but that is of little consequence since the areas involved are hidden from view. It may be that time will age the facings to match.
In addition, I cannot see exactly where they repointed the rest of the bricks, meaning they did a terrific job matching the concrete.
"Thank you."
"THANK YOU."
Do get pictures of the areas after the repairs are completed (especially if you can't see them from the ground or if you are not home when the work is done).
"THANK YOU."
"This member lied, for all costumer when the work is more the two hours always i did say: You have three options first we can come and work two hours or we can work by hour or i can give you one price for all the job and then i can give you coupon discount $250.00 and plus 10% off because you are member to Angie's List, then i wait until the costumer choose. I never said COULD'T DO IT EQUALLY SMALL OR BIG JOB IS THE SAME FOR ME and always is good deal for all costumers thank you for read this note."
The quality of the work was fine.
"We work two hours two men only because they don't want to spend any more the most costumer i did visit they understand is more work is more time need to pay more. (normal)"
"I went to her house and they have a lot concrete work and this is include concrete demo, re-build retainer wall and re-pointing job but always my prices is good and i gave them always discounts but the more import our work is good quality."
"THANK YOU."
"I can't understand how many times but he can call me again please i will do the job immediate."
