After having 2 other repair persons (both with ratings of A on the list and both of whom were nice and seemed knowledgeable and one of whom we had used before for a different appliance). John, from Alco, came to repair our 8 year old built-in Kitchenaide. Refrigerator/bottom drawer freezer. The problem was that the fridge part was not cooling. After manually defrosting it at the suggestion of the first person to come out, the fridge worked for about 4 weeks. He said that the problem was in the defrost system or a freon leak or obstruction and that he couldn't fix that. The second person to come out basically said the same thing and that, even though he was listed as repairing Kitchenaide units, he could not fix it. Both of these first responders said that the entire sealed system would likely have to be replaced or repaired and that the job would be large enough that we should consider replacing the unit. After pricing new built-in units of the necessary size, we decided to give repairing it just one more shot. We ended up being very glad that we did. When John from Alco came out, he immediately diagnosed the problem as a broken temperature gauge (a $12.00 part). He replaced it in a matter of minutes. Then, seeing that we do not use our automatic ice machine, he offered to safely disconnect it so we would have more room. In addition, he improved a crooked freezer door that had been a design defect of the unit from the beginning, but which we had been unable to force Kitchenaide to place. So, John performed three projects during the one visit. He knew immediately what the problems were and how to fix them. He had the necessary part in the truck. He was pleasant and gave me lots of good information about the refrigerator and how to care for it. Finally, when I asked about getting a replacement for a dishwasher part, John gave me the number of an appliance parts company (Tribbles) and told me what part to ask for to fix my dishwasher. John was a godsend!

Called to make an appointment on Monday. Was told to call back Wednesday at 10am for a specific time window that day. Wednesday morning, was told the service call would happen between 2-4pm. At 4pm, with no tech in sight, worriedly called the office and got voice mail. Left a message. At 4:05, received a return call saying the tech was running late, but not sure how late. Was encouraged to call tech's cell phone and leave a message. Got halfhearted apology when I mentioned I was a new customer. John called from the field at 4:25 and said he was on his way. He arrived a few minutes before 5:00. Dismantled the dryer quickly, diagnosed the problem, and had the proper parts. He was courteous and knowledgeable, giving us some history on the dryer and the news that it could last another 15-20 years if properly maintained. I don't know how competitive the price was, but it beats buying another dryer and trying to yank the old one out of the basement. I'd use them again.

We were thinking of replacing the dishwasher because it's older, but he told us we had a really great brand of dishwasher and that we should just repair it rather than replace it. We appreciated his honesty because they do sell appliances, but he was giving an honest opinion.

Came when he said he would, performed the work quickly and kept it simple, and told me there's a safety recall on the dishwasher (which was not being serviced). Very good experience.

This is a very professional organization. The person who answered my call was very patient and honest. They do not give a time frame but you need to call the day the maintenance is scheduled to get your window. They gave me a 2 hour window which worked out perfectly.

Alco was easy to schedule and came on the date they agreed. They brought the parts that were likely necessary and determined in about 5 minutes that the problem was actually the front panel, rather than the main circuit board. We scheduled a new appointment right there and Jason came back out with the right part one week later. The replacement took another 5 minutes and the oven works great. Jason was extremely easy to work with and we scheduled another appointment for another appliance on the spot.

John was simply fantastic. I called on a Monday, hoping to have someone come to Capitol Hill to assess a problem with our 17-year-old stackable washer and dryer. We weren't sure what was happening, but the circuit breaker controlling the dryer was engaging after only a few minutes of use. We thought we had an overheating problem or an electrical problem or that we might have to replace the washer/dryer entirely. John was able to fit us in the next day and arrived not just on time, but early. He quickly identified the problem (a loose wire) and fixed it. Then he did a quick check of the washer and also repaired a minor problem he saw there. We were delighted with John's professionalism, attention to detail and fantastic service. We would highly recommend John and Alco Appliance for anyone with appliance repair needs.

Appointment was easy to make and time request was honored. John was prompt, pleasant, and attentive to the problem I described. He explained the probable cause of standing water in the base of the dishwasher, then checked all possibilities to be sure there was no problem with the machine. Ultimately, he adjusted the feet on the front of the dishwasher to better facilitate drainage and assured me the machine was in good working order. He charged me only the $55 diagnostic/service charge, even though he spent a full hour checking the dishwasher out. Will definitely use this company again!

Fridge was not cold enough. I called they came out two days later to look at the fridge, they made a few adjustments and now its working fine.

They are polite and fun. They are very accommodating.

Another company was recommended by Jenn-Air to perform the work. They did not show up and did not call at the appointed time. I found Alco on Angie's List and called them because of their excellent reports. I was satisfied with every aspect of the experience, from the initial phone call to the performance of the work. Jason was the service technician who came to do the work. He told me right away that the parts would be covered by warranty, which surprised me as the range is two years old. Consequently, I only had to pay for the labor of the installation. Everyone I dealt with was professional, courteous, and expert in their responsibilities.

He was very professional. He knew what he was doing. He gave good advice and tips. The price was very reasonable. I would recommend them.

John came to repair old gas cooktop but was unable to repair due to lack of parts due to age. Our house was on the market and he suggested replacing the three very old kitchen appliances to enhance the sale of the house. He said he had a used wall oven that would work in the space of the existing oven. A few days later, Elijah came to remove all the old appliances we were replacing and installed shut-off valves for each of them. A week later John and his crew (Elijah and Kirk) installed the new stainless steel gas cooktop, new stainless steel dishwasher and the used updated digital wall oven. The used wall oven looked almost brand new. They also put in a wood panel to cover-up the space left by the old wall oven. They tested each appliances to ensure each was working properly. John's crew arrived as expected and was very professional. They left the work area undamaged and was very careful since we had just put in new tiled floor in the kitchen and left the work area clean.

We called a few places, but Alco was the first to respond. They came less than two days later, had the part we needed, and fixed the problem in less than an hour. Their technician was on-time, polite and very professional. Overall, it was an excellent experience (with a pot of boiling water).

They were prompt, efficient and courteous.

I had an incredibly difficult time getting a company to service an antique stove that I own. Most repair people suggest I throw it away, which was just the last thing I wanted to do. After dozens of frustrating calls and hours and hours on-line to find a part, Alco was the only company that was truly polite over the phone and in person. John was extremely nice, great communicator, on time and preserved a little piece of history when nobody else had respect for it. Thank you, John!

As a first time homeowner of 17 months this was my first good experience, and far from my first time needing services in my home, it renewed my confidence and was overall a great experience. I highly recommend ALCO.

Our washing machine's cold water was flowing much slower than the hot water. When I called Alco to schedule an appointment, Kurt was able to give me the day I requested and time frame that was convenient, even when I had to reschedule due to predicted bad weather. The repairman, Joey, arrived within the two-hour period promised. He was competent, knowledgeable, pleasant-mannered, and determined the cause of our washer's problem right away. He got right to work, and explained what he was doing. He seemed to know quite a bit about washing machines, as he was able to discuss some of the pros and cons of various features in other brands, and he surprised me with his knowledge of some of the old washers from many years ago. He was pleasantly conversational but didn't waste any time, and even when he got a cell phone call on the job, he told the caller he would get back to them later. The whole service visit took less than an hour, and the bill was very reasonable, I thought.

It went quite well. I am stationed overseas and am renting my home in Hyattsville. After hearing about these appliance problems from my tenant, I contacted ALCO by e-mail and set up the service completely online. You need to have the details of the appliances (make/model/serial number) before you contact them, otherwise you're wasting their time. I was very satisfied, as was my tenant. The price was just what they said it would be.

John came by late on a Friday and could fix the GE Fridge with a part from his truck. For the oven hinges and the ice machine gasket, he had to place an order. Two weeks later he returned and fixed both the oven and the gasket with the parts that he had ordered from the manufacturers.

The technician came at the time specified and performed the repair. The technician understood that the problem re-occurred after another company supposed to have repaired about 6 months back and installed a component to prevent the problem from occurring in future. Reasonably priced and seems to be knowledgeable.

John came the next day as promised, and checked out the fan which was not moving. He had the part (fan) in his vehicle but as it turned out, it was a wire connector to my fan that was faulty. He replaced the connector and it worked fine. I did not have to pay for a new fan, only for the service call ($52, far less than some others who wanted between $85 and $99) plus the labor charge. John was very knowledgeable about appliances, said he had been working on them for approx 30 years. The company repairs all major appliances. I recommend them highly.

The repairmen called during the two hour window I had been given by the scheduler. The repairmen was polite, arrived promptly, worked efficiently, and explained the repair to me. The job took 20 minutes; $70 for parts, $15 for labor; the trip was $52, and tax of $3.50. I would definitely use the company again.

I have used Alco for many years and am extremely satisfied. They are highly professional, always on time, charge reasonable rates, and have made recommendations that saved me LOTS of money.

Great service from start to finish; they came in a timely manner, were very professional both on the phone and at the house. They were on time and very speedy with the repair. I will definitely call them again for any other repairs.
