Yes, we admit it. We’re tree huggers. Given the amount of attention normally paid to our leafy friends, it’s a wonder some don’t have an inferiority complex.
We’ve been giving the trees and shrubs of Ann Arundel County and surrounding areas a lot of TLC for nearly 30 years. We know what they need to thrive and show off their natural beauty. Richard’s Tree Care has three full crews and three estimators. So we’re easily able to keep up with the demand for our services.

I contacted five tree removal services for estimates. Richard's Tree Care was the only one who has yet to provide me with an estimate. I do not know what the problem is. I initially attempted to establish an appointment by using the online form on their website. After three or four days of not hearing from them, I decided to contact them by telephone. I did get hold of someone and set up an appointment. The guy came out. Took my list of what was to be done. We went around the yard discussing each tree. At the end, he said he would email me the estimate. I asked if he had my email address. He assured me that the office had it and my telephone number. I waited five days; emailed the office, and still have not heard from them. But, I had to move on. I believe that I gave them ample time to respond, but they chose not to or their communication system is not operating properly. Don't know. Don't care at this point.
Description of Work: I needed four large dead trees removed from my back yard and extensive pruning on trees both back and front. I contacted Richard's Tree Care for an estimate.

We got three estimates and Richard's was the least expensive by about $1,600. Disparity gave pause. But Richard's was the only service we contacted that had reviews on Angie's List and they were positive. They assessed the situation, gave an estimate, Dan provided their insurance certificate along with his phone number, scheduled the service, and showed up early on the date. Then they took down the tree, chipped the debris, and ground the stump. Though the ground was soft, there was no damage to the lawn - they used mats. Left some sawdust that quickly dissipated. Three polite, professional people on the crew. Used their not-really-loud chipper sparingly - didn't keep it going all day. Appreciated that. Work was very carefully done. They cracked the cap on the neighbor's fence and replaced it immediately with no hassle. Pleased with the service - would use again.
Description of Work: Richard's took down a silver maple that had outlived its life-span and was in danger of coming down during major storms.

they did a good job, but came about 5 weeks later than they said they would. I called 3 times, they did not call back until 12 hours prior to them wanting to do the job. I still let them do it and they did a good job.

I have been using Richard's Tree Service since I have moved here 14 years ago. I am a Tree Huger and take cutting down trees seriously. I save trees as much as I can. Hence the White Pine. Richard knows that about me and over the years has sent a guy that specializes in treating the ground and the tree with nutrients and oils...to keep it healthy. The tree bounces back and is saved yet another year. This year I got an estimate in the mail. I called about it and he said it's time. I called 3 other companies just incase and they all agreed it must come down. It is a risk at this point. I called Richards back and scheduled an appt. They said the following week and will call to confirm exact date. They called me in the morning on Friday and said they had an open window. I told them Im ready. (P.S. I did contact my HOA to inform them of the dead tree... and stay within my bylaws. It's within 20' of house so I was fine). Richard's removed all the bird houses... from around the tree and started. They did a quick and amazing job. It was raked up, ground up, cleaned up in just short of 2 hours. It was a huge tree. I had no needles left on the branches and even most of the branches snapped off. The trunk was becoming rotten under the bark and I didn't even know that. They were able to scrap a big dent in the trunk with their bare hands. I was so glad Richard's keeps an eye on my property. He has done that over the years. I was saving another tree in the back yard and he said it was time. I agreed. When the tree came down it was rotten in the inside with ants...bugs and a hole in the core. It was a risk and could have easily came down on the houses and cars. He really watches out for unsafe trees. I'd never use anyone else.
Description of Work: Cut down a huge super tall White Pine that was dead. The price is approx.

The crew waited, as I had requested, for a cold day so the ground was frozen. The arrived as promised and put down mesh plates to further reduce damage to the yard, which was inaccessible by truck. They neatly took down the trees which dangled over our house and took away the pieces. On my request they left the maple logs and cut them into 18" pieces for fire wood. Everything else they took and did a great job. Very happy.

I have a lot of trees in my backyard many of which have died over the years. Recently two more died and one other appeared to be dying and I was thinking about calling a tree service. I was in a local car wash in January and Richard, wearing a shirt with his business logo, was there as well. I had seen his trucks in our neighborhood and and asked for his card, but he offered to come over right away. After inspecting my yard, he recommended removing two other trees as well - one was diseased and the other was leaning towards the house. We have had several trees come down over the years due to storms. He gave me a quote for the 5 trees ($2800.00). However, I decided to wait until spring to see if any other trees needed to be removed. I called him in early May and he came out again - I asked about taking a 6th tree down because it was also leaning towards the house. He also noted that a maple in front of my house was having some problems as well and recommended trimming and fertilization (which I have had to do previously over the years). One thing about the county I live in is that if you live within a 1000' feet of the water, you need to get a permit to remove the trees. I have gotten bids from tree services in the past some have told me I did not need a permit, when in fact I did. Richard raised the issue (I did not have to ask) and he took care of getting the permit (there is no cost). It took about a week to obtain. I have a somewhat steep slope down the side of my house to get to my back yard. When his crew came they laid down matting to protect the grass - they use a sort of mini-lift to get the larger cut-up tree trunk parts out. (I used a service a couple of years go who did not use mats and they really tore up the lawn). I was surprised that they were able to remove all 6 trees in a day - they showed up on time and worked until they finished and did a good job cleaning up - even my neighbors were impressed!
Description of Work: Removed 6 trees, removed loose brush, trimmed and fertilized a tree.

We again tried calling them to do other work for us in August of 2011. We called them twice and got no return call. I won't use them again.
Description of Work: We used Richard's Tree Service a couple of times. The first time they removed 6 trees. The second time, we had installed solar panels and had them cut some trees back. They also removed four trees in the backyard.

I have used Richard's Tree Care many times over the years because I can rely in his team dropping the tree exactly where they say without any collateral damage to buildings, septic systems or other plantings.
Description of Work: Removed tall dead oak tree, cleaned up limbs that had come down in a storm and left me some split firewood.
