John was great. He did the following: 1. explained my options and his recommendations well 2. communicated consistently the status of the project 3. provided his insurance certificate up front 4. provided a clear written quote with line items for a good price (I got three other quotes) 5. did the job very well I highly recommend him and will likely hire him again in the future. Thanks John for a job well done. P.S. I found John via Angie's List. I didn't know him prior, or know anyone who knew him.

This was the second time we have had John and his team do masonry for our home.  The first was excellent and this was a repeat performance.
John stopped by to discuss the project and we agreed on an approach. He forwarded an email to me shortly with an estimate thereafter and we agreed on his proposal and timing.
John and his team arrived on time on scheduled date.  Work took a couple of days and was completed as expected except for minor work which was delayed by thunderstorms.  Returned as promised for clean-up.  Super job!  Would highly recommend!

John had done some relatively minor repair to a stone wall at our previous house several years ago. In the meantime, he built a fabulous fireplace for my brother, who is building a house from scratch. When the retaining wall in the backyard of our current house threatened to collapse, I called John. He gave us several options that he carefully explained. I actually got 3 quotes for this job, and since all were comparable, the choice was clear. John and his crew fit us into their busy schedule, and the operation worked like clockwork, bringing in various equipment and different workers in sequence. We couldn't be happier with the result. If it were a publicly traded company, I'd definitely buy stock in JD Masonry.

Two years ago John Darling (JD Masonry) installed a beautiful curved front stone block patio at my house. I recently noticed that the row of blocks right behind the larger face blocks had dropped down and were no longer flush with them, but maybe 1/2" lower. I called John and he said he'd be there the following Saturday to look at the problem. When he saw it, he said he didn't know why it was happening, but agreed that something was definitely wrong, and he'd be back on Wednesday with a helper and his equipment to fix it. They showed up as scheduled, and did the extensive repairs, this time putting in a concrete foundation to prevent the problem from recurring. I told John to give me an invoice for whatever he thought was fair, but he said that although he didn't know why it happened, there was no reason the patio should have a problem like this, and there would be no charge.
The repairs took two men a full half day to remove the blocks, install the concrete, reset the blocks, and redo all the seams. When they removed the blocks, they found the problem- a zillion ants that had tunneled beneath the entire length of the sunken blocks, causing them to slowly collapse into the tunnels. This was nothing John could have anticipated when he installed the patio originally, and certainly no reflection on the quality of his work, so when they were through I again asked John for an invoice, and he again said he guarantees his work, and regardless of the cause there was no charge. That's standing behind your work to what I think is an unprecedented and surprising degree. Tremendous! I absolutely recommend JD Masonry- a rare find.

John had helped us a couple of years ago with a smaller job.  We were very happy with the results. Now that our front steps bricks are getting loose after a few harsh winter, we have decided to call John again.  He is professional, personable, responsive and gives good advice. He did great work.  Was on time, on schedule, neat and keep us posted on the progress every step of the way (we were not home most of the time when John and his team were working). We cannot be happier with our new front steps.  And John and his team are genuinely nice people too.  Our neighbor who were home and had watched John and his team worked, could not said enough good things about John and his team, how hard they worked, and how good their work was.  John will definitely be our go to person if we have any future masonry work that needs to be done.

Well, I must admit, John was a delight and his work was flawless.  After writing an earlier review that I was disappointed he wanted to charge my 91 yr old mother $75 to give her an estimate on a very small job; he called me, apologized and we made arrangements for him to stop by on a Saturday to take a look at the job.  He explained that he usually charges the estimate fee as he often spends one to two hours with the customer reviewing what needs to be done but in our case,  it took him 15 minutes to take a look at the job and qive me a quote!

The work was excellent!  Thank you John!  I would recommend you and your work very highly.

P.S. thank you for being so kind also!

After the winter thaw, the cement on our front steps was crumbling away, leaving bricks along the edges of the steps dangerously loose. We called JD Masonry and got an immediate response from John Darling, who came out to assess the damage. He was personable and professional and sent us an estimate within days. We had another company come out to quote on the job, but decided to go with JD. The time between booking them and the actual work was three weeks, which I thought was very reasonable.
On the scheduled day, the crew of two arrived on time. They were very polite, very industrious and did a good and professional job of repairing the steps. Cement work creates a lot of fine dust, which got all over our shrubs and some decorative fixtures. The following day, two other workmen came back and cleaned the steps and fixtures and put the fixtures back in  place.
We were informed how to prepare the steps and care for them next winter to prevent water from seeping into the cement and freezing, which caused the damage in the first place.
Very happy with this vendor. Would definitely use again and recommend them.

My husband and I couldn?t be happier with the work done by JD Masonry.  Our front steps desperately needed repair/reconstruction and we were interested in options other than our original brick.  John was very helpful, professional, and extremely easy to work with.  He spent time with us and gave us 3 or 4 options and price ranges, all of which were very reasonable.
We finally chose granite steps and they look terrific!  John and his crew were prompt, dependable, hard working, polite, and when they left you would never know that they had been there.  Any kind of debris was removed and taken along with them.  What struck us was the pride John and each one of his crew members showed in their work.  Everything had to be ?just right.?
I would highly recommend JD Masonry.  I know that when we need any kind of masonry work done we will most definitely call JD Masonry!

In 39 years of home ownership, I have never had a better experience with a contractor.   I'm very pleased with the results.

John came when he said he would, did what he said he would, and continually asked for input and feedback.  He was able to capture my vision of the job and make it happpen.  He is easy to work with.  And he did a thorough clean-up!

Our crumbling front stairs needed attention. John looked at the stairs and presented several options from simply re-pointing the stairs to replacing them altogether. We opted to have the brick treads replaced with blue stone and the stucco risers faced with brick. They look great!
John and his masons are great to work with. I didn't like a couple of the bricks that were used for the risers,so the mason sawed them out and replaced them at no extra charge. Also, one of the blue stone treads had a chip I didn't like so he redid that too.
Overall they are great to work with and I would hire them again!

I contacted John Darling by e-mail. He came out to give estimate about 5 days later. From start to finish, I knew that I picked the right mason. I had 3 total estimates. One was a lot more, and one was a little less, but was not nearly as much work as John's. More bang for your buck, for sure. John is very nice guy, and very easy to deal with. The same can be said for his workers. It is very obvious that he cares greatly about his work and reputation. I could not be happier with the price and results. I wouldn't hire anybody else but him in the future!!! He even spread the extra crushed stone out in front of my house where it was all muddy.

My husband and I are very pleased with the work John and his crew performed at our house.  They arrived early every morning and were very courteous.  The steps and wall turned out beautifully and are just what we were looking for.  John was great to work with and provided us with several options in terms of materials and structure to better fit into our budget.  Will definitely reach out to him again if/when we need additional work done.

The original wall had been improperly installed without weep holes and was leaning precariously toward the house.  John and his crew dug out the area, removed the old wall and install a new wall using proper technique.  The job was done flawlessly.  The wall looks amazing, the site was left in perfect condition and the cost came in 10% below estimate.
John had performed an earlier job repairing my foundation wall and did an exceptional job on that as well, filling in a void in the foundation.  Although he encountered some surprises, that job also came in on budget and he left site in pristine condition even though the work was done on a rain filled day.
I could not be on site for either of these projects, which only proves that he is reliable, trust worthy and has exceptional work ethic.
I have other masonry related work to get done and will absolutely use his services again.

I have worked with John on a couple of other projects at my last house.  He was always on time, reasonable, and nice to work with.  We asked him to give us a bid for a new retaining wall in our new house.  We were able to schedule a meeting within a week or so of the call.  He came out took the measurements and provided some suggestions.  We had a proposal back within a week.  We did obtain proposals from 3 other masons.  John was the most reasonable and timely.  His crew was there when they said they would be. They cleaned up and completed the job within a couple of days.  We are very happy with their work and would recommend him.

I received several estimates on the work and JD Masonry gave me the fairest price as well as some honest suggestions. The crews were all very nice and polite. I had brick steps totally removed and rebuilt with granite treads and stone fronts. I made the landing deeper and wider and they worked with me when I wanted to change the height of each step. Next I changed a section that had old railroad ties and a curved section of 5 steps to solid granite steps and made them more manageable. Finally the walkway was brick and we replaced it with pavers. When I saw the sample pavers on sight prior to install I really wasn't happy with the color that yes I had chosen. They were good about providing a second sample which I was much happier with and we went with...I am VERY PLEASED with the final result. The front of the house looks great now.!!! I decided as an after thought to have them do a small section in brick using some of my removed bricks...I received a proposal and the work was able to be done a few weeks later. I also want to say that this work was done in some pretty extreme heat and they work full days and stuck it out in the horrible heat. I would recommend and use these guys again no question.

Great Job.  High quality work, very neat and efficient.  Did a great job matching a brick that was over 20 years old.  Would never know the work had been done.  Very competitively priced, a pleasure to work with. Would highly recommend for any masonry work.

This was one of the best experiences that we have ever had with a contractor.  From start to finish John was courteous, responsive, and totally committed.  We gave him a photograph of the walkway that we would like to have him build and he delivered.  He initially made some suggestions about the width and the contours and we agreed.  His quote for the work was very good and we accepted it without question.  He also did a few extra things after the quote, like putting a conduit pipe under the walkway, at no extra charge.  Once the work was started he came every day until it was completed.  The finished walkway was beautiful.  The quality and craftsmanship was more than we hoped for.  It was great to have someone like John doing the work.  He took care of everything including a good cleanup.  It was worry free and we would definitely seek him out for our next job.
