Overall, I do not have any single item finished. Pieces have been started in four places. Trash is all over my yard. I could go on as it has been a 10 month ordeal during which our family has frozen, and then been besieged by bugs, trash, subcontractors who visit during the weekend because checks to them have bounced, money paid for work not done, etc. Right now, I have a house that is completely open to the cold, with a leaky basement, with trash all over the yard. It has been an untenable nightmare, while the winter, then summer, and now another winter has come and gone.
Description of Work: Signed contract for 3-4 mo home renovation of primary residence, including 2 baths and a kitchen. Contractor gutted bath, kitchen, etc in Feb. 2011. Fired contractor this November 2011 as there is still no kitchen and the 50+k addition is barely started. Will file a complaint with the MA dept of public safety and attorney general's office. Contractor appears quite professional up front. However, contractor is insolvent and has no assets and your money disappears. Check out liens for yourself on his home through the middlesex south registry of deeds using his name and address. The last lawsuit won against him ended up putting a lien on his home which they will not get until he sells. So, when he takes your money, you will have no recourse. Here is how it went for my very first renovation. Signed contract. Job looked great for a month. He went to do another job and left this one. No completion date was given for the project only 12-14 week span. So, three months later he apologizes seems so professional and organized, blaming everyone else who is making his life difficult (IRS, other subs, other clients, etc). He needed new payments half way through to get things going. He always asked after a worker or two had been on the job for about a week and asked outside of the agreed payment plan. He would say the workers had come by and he could not pay the workers and they would not come back unless I gave him a check right away. I was blackmailed into the next 3/4 of the payments out of the agreement this way. Then, when he realized there was not going to finish the job for the contracted amount he just stopped showing up. Two months later, I have found a lawyer, am 50k short of finishing my home and strongly urge you to avoid this person, no matter how competitive his bid or how professional he seems.
