Jennifer was a big help keeping me informed of scheduling and always responded within a day of any message left, if I didn't get her live on the phone. The crew was really good (Sergi, Dimitry and the guys) and worked 9-5 without missing a beat after a long daily commute to get to our house.. Considering all the nails, shingles and small metal pieces associated with this installation my yard was spotless. Even after they completed my walk around yielded about a dozen small pieces buried under leaves and to be expected.. Very pleased with that..
So far we're very happy with the experience. The roof looks amazing and we cannot wait for the snow to arrive. I'll do an update once we go through a winter cycle here in MA.
"After contacted by [Member Name Removed], our service team promptly returned his call and left multiple messages. An appointment was made for Dec 15 since poor weather conditions did not allow us to be at his house sooner. We identified the leak source to be the solar tube (which is not an Interlock product and was already installed before our product was added in 2011). Our installer serviced the flashings around it, fully resolving the issue. We appreciate the customer recognizing the quality our product (that he rated B) and will continue working to improve our responsiveness and customer support. The Interlock® Roofing System comes with a lifetime limited product warranty."
Pros:
Metal Roofs Are Beautiful
Life Time Warranty (great in theory)
Cons:
Horrible Customer Service
High Maintenance
Functionality?multiple problems within small time period
Monopoly on service/materials
Interlock Metal Roof System?s customer service is amongst the worst I have encountered. Metal roofs can be beautiful and last a very long time. Be very careful, however, before paying two to three times more than you would for an asphalt roof. You cannot simply slap a metal roof on your house and enjoy it for the next 75 years. Like most things, it requires maintenance. My experiences with Interlock to date suggest that they are woefully incapable of providing even a modicum of customer service. Merely thinking of the prospect of dealing with this approach for the next couple of decades makes my stomach turn and head hurt.
About a year ago, we purchased a home with a pre-existing metal Interlock Roof. There were signs of significant ceiling leakage in the living room, but we were assured that the problem had been corrected. So we presumed that we would simply have to fix this damage and obtain some periodic maintenance down the line. A couple of months after moving in, however, the living room ceiling was leaking once more. We broke out the buckets and contacted Interlock in the beginning of July. After contacting Interlock?s national call center, we eventually received a call back from the Walpole Interlock Branch a number of days later. Initially, they seemed willing and able to help. A couple of weeks passed and we heard nothing back from Interlock. We were scheduled to go on vacation in the middle of August so I called the Walpole Office to ask if we could get someone to come to our house and assess the leaky roof before we left. We were told that they would try to make that happen. We ended up departing for vacation having heard nothing back from Interlock. A couple of days after returning from vacation we unexpectedly had an Interlock employee arrive at our
doorstep out of the blue. Thankfully, we were home and able to explain our problem to him as he seemed relatively clueless as to what was going on. He spent a couple of hours on the roof diagnosing the problem and applying a stop-gap fix. He then charged us $379 dollars and told us that our skylights needed to be replaced. Knowing full well by now that Interlock was relatively unresponsive and seemingly disorganized to boot, we immediately asked what we could do to schedule the necessary repairs as soon as possible. The repairman told us to call the Walpole office, which we did immediately. We mailed Interlock a check for $1504.50 or 50% of the amount we were quoted for the repairs (another $3009 which simply covers installation and does not include the cost of the skylights themselves). Interlock cashed this check on August 28th. Weeks passed and we heard nothing from Interlock. After several calls attempting to plod things along, I asked what I could do to expedite the process. I was told that I could order the skylights myself. Given how slow Interlock moves, I was happy to have a task that I could personally fast-track. Interlock provided me the key specs related to the skylights. I contacted Veluxe to order the necessary skylights. Long story short, I was told that they did not make the sort of skylight I had been instructed to ask for. After a couple of confusing weeks of back and forth, it turned out that the Interlock manager I had spoken with about the skylights did not understand how to effectively communicate what sort of skylight was in fact needed. After a great deal of unnecessary churn and burn, I was finally able to have the proper (I hope/trust) skylights delivered on September 23rd.
I eagerly contacted Interlock to schedule a time to have the skylights installed. The Walpole Office?s Administrative Assistant informed me she would speak with her boss and get something set up and that she would contact me within a week. A week came and went and I had heard nothing back. I called and emailed Interlock numerous times over the course of the next 6 weeks. I never had anyone to reach out to me or keep me apprised of when we might have an actual appointment scheduled. Throughout this entire time I was only able to speak with management on one occasions. He was argumentative and arrogant. He was more intent on justifying the ongoing ineptitude than he was taking care of the issue at hand. Often times, I would be routed to a national call center so that John Doe could take a message. Apparently, the Walpole Interlock Office does not have an operable answering machine and answering phones during business hours is optional.
In the middle of October the situation worsened. We had tradesmen who were renovating our bathroom inform us that the roof above the bedroom was leaking into the attic crawl space. In addition, sections of the exterior fascia boards were rotting out. I contacted the Walpole Interlock Office to notify them of these new issues and to explain that all of the work we had planned for the living room had been on pause for four months because we did not want to start any improvements to the interior until we could ensure that the roof would be dry and tight (competence is thankfully not all that uncommon as several other home improvement organizations that we had been working with throughout this same period worked were prompt, courteous, and reasonably priced (which stands in stark contrast to Interlock). I was told the same old refrain that she would speak to her boss and more of the same.
Two weeks have passed and I have not heard back regarding anything. After a great number of phone calls and emails, I finally decided to contact the national head quarters and see if there might be another means of fixing the problem (Perhaps another Interlock branch is more professional and competent?). Unsurprisingly, I have yet to hear back.
This entire experience has been extremely frustrating. No one else appears able to fix Interlock products. If anyone else conducts any repairs on the roof the warranty is null and void (although I am starting to wonder what good a warranty is that hasn?t covered any costs to date especially when you cant get any work to occur to begin with). Even if you could find someone else who was willing and able to fix the Interlock product, they would be hard pressed to do so because Interlock does not appear to provide their materials to any other vendor and seems have created a product that requires special, home grown training fix. In other words, Interlock has their customers right where they want them. If a mechanic, plumber, landscaper or any other service provider acted as Interlock has over the past four months they would have been replaced within a week.
If you are thinking of installing an Interlock roof I advise you to reconsider. Ours has had more issues in the past 6 months than all of the roofs I have lived under for the past 40 years combined and as I have tried to make clear throughout this review dealing with these issues has been extremely frustrating. If you already have an Interlock
"Our customer support team visited the customer to inspect the roof and identify the leak source as being the skylight (not one of our products). Part of the delay on this project was due to the time the customer needed to purchase and receive replacement parts (as they were not manufactured or carried by Interlock). The weather also did hold back the job, with several consecutive days of rain. We communicated with the customer via email and phone call throughout that period. Repairs were completed on Saturday November 15th. The roof was originally installed in 2000, and [member name removed] is the 2nd owner of that house, benefiting from our 50-year transferable product warranty. We appreciate [member name removed]'s contact and feedback and are happy that the issue was fully resolved."
