one piece of material or minute of service was performed, after repeated
delays, in December we were unable to contact by phone or email and
reported this business to the police.
remodel our kitchen. The owner and contractor, Tom Furtado, told us that the
start date would be during the third week of July and that the completion date
would be during the second week in August.
The job did not start until the last week in August, and
(only after multiple phone calls, lies, and broken promises) was the job
completed two days before Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, we had paid the bill in its entirety (minus $199.00 for
last minute incidentals) at the end of September. We paid the remainder upon
completion of the job. What a stupid mistake on our part! We waited 2 months
for the installation of the countertops alone.
Among the lies and excuses we heard during that time were:
The
countertop company had just introduced a new color line which was slowing
things down.
The
countertop company had a backlog of projects into the start of the new year.
There
were others ahead of us.
On December 24, 2012, we received a letter from the countertop company, telling
us that Tom Furtado had still not paid the balance owed for the installation
($1,562.28) and that if he did not pay within 5 business days, the company
would be forced to put a lien against our property.
After speaking to the financial department of the countertop
company (Dec. 26), I learned that Furtado had not given them the required 50%
deposit to start until November 12 (hence the delay) and has seemed to vanish
within the past two weeks. Repeated calls to Furtado's cell phone have gone
unanswered, and the phone number at the business itself is now out of service.
The countertop company has also sent their representatives to the business only
to find it closed up. They also told us that our job was the last they did for
Broadway Kitchens.
Needless to say, we are furious.
