Prior to the job starting, "Tillo" (aka Anthony) came over with Debbie to assess the tree situation and provide an estimate. I had received one other estimate and wanted to compare services. Both Tillo and Debbie were very friendly but in our conversations, Debbie mentioned a neighbor that constantly wanted to "Jew the price down." I kid you not. I chalked this up to ignorance but did pull Tilo aside and tell him that the remark was completely inappropriate and that he would talk to Debbie. I decided to go with them anyway, as I had heard good things about the work and they were offering a competitive price. Tillo asked for a $200 deposit and provided a receipt. The first job, which was mostly to remove the trees in the back of the house went OK. They showed up late, after receiving a call that they would be late because they needed to "sharpen their saws." When they finally arrived with the crew, they got to work, and things were OK. I provided beverages and lunch to everyone along with generous tips at the end of the day. Despite this Tillo felt it necessary to let me know it would be good to tip the guys. This was inappropriate and no one needs to tell me this. I had smelled liquor on Tillo's breath, but he was for the most part functional so I dismissed it. His main climber whose name was John I think, brought along a Budweiser "tall boy" in a foam insert - I didn't see this until the end of the job because he forgot it. For the second part of the job, which involved the removal of an enormous pine along with some other smaller trees, things began to go wrong almost immediately.. Again, they arrived very late and Tillo said that their chipper was broken so that they would have to haul off the trees in batches by truck and he asked me for an additional $200. He was visibly drunk. I had neighbors stopping by and they all noticed he was smashed and he could barely stand up. About an hour and a half after starting the job, he and two other guys just left, leaving Debbie and the lovely Parker. They just disappeared, and I learned afterwards that they went drinking. After returning, Tillo was so drunk he could not stand and he could barely speak. He asked me for some lunch, which I again had provided to the entire crew. By the end of the day, they had not finished up cleaning debris but Debbie said they would return on another day to do this. In the interim, Debbie and Parker had left because they did not want to put up with the drunken crew, which left me to deal with it. When it was time for Tillo and the drunken crew to leave, he requested payment, which like an idiot I gave to him and again requested that I give the crew tips. Incredible nerve. As he was getting into the truck ready to leave, Tilo pulled out a "dimebag" of pot and asked me if I wanted some. I was furious and told him and the crew to leave. I was completely beside myself. I felt violated, taken advantage of - especially because I provided meals and beverages along with generous tips and additional cash. I was disgusted with Tillo and his company and myself for not putting a stop to the job and just kicking them off my property. I called Debbie and gave her a piece of my mind and made it clear that if they were going to return to clean up debris that Tillo better be sober, that she needed to be present and that I would not speak to him. She agreed. When they did return, Tillo made a very half-assed attempt to apologize ("Oh hey, sorry about that the other day") to which I replied, "not even close." I gave a not to Debbie for Tillo that expressed my extreme anger and disappoint in his and his crew's unprofessional behaviour, for putting me in danger, for taking advantage of my good nature and for being an all around SOB/POS. I told him he needed to clean up his act and that I would NEVER recommend him to anyone nor use him again. He never responded nor apologized. It is not like me to actually go to the effort of writing a review like this. I enjoy promoting local business and think that people should be paid well for their work. I have never walked away from a situation feeling so truly disgusted. There are many reputable tree services on Cape Cod; Anthony's is not one of them, unless you don't mind alcoholic drug addicts wielding dangerous tree cutting equipment. Do yourself a favor: shop around and find a responsible, professional company. I learned my lesson big time.
Description of Work: The job was split into two, as there were a number of trees to be removed both in the front of the house and in the back.
