MASS MECHANICAL CO

.We had a mixed experience with Mass Mechanical.  When the new furnace was installed, I was concerned about the flexible duct work and was reassured the method was sound.  After a couple of months, the circuit board died (over a long weekend of course) and the company responded with a new board a week later.  We realized a circuit board is not in every truck but we had to complain loudly to get them to bring over some space heaters.  After living with the system for a few months, we called about insufficient heat.  They came over and spent considerable time diagnosing the problem which they concluded was our old ducts since the house is built in 1891.  To fix the situation they turned the furnace fan speed from low to high and left.  The fan was very very very load and repeated calls to simply turn the fan down to the in between setting went unanswered.  Even worse, the office person said they would contact us but never did.  I would have much more preferred that they said they would not return but I could call alternative companies to fix the issue.  We finally did just that and for a small fee, the furnace fan was adjusted.  Mass Mechanical went from a loyal customer (at install) to customer with a very sore taste.  A good company as long as you don't ask for anything to be done other than what they want to do.

Rick is an excellent contractor but disorganized. It rained during the day that we had an appointment for an estimate. This created a problem a the job site they were on that day. As a result he arrived an hour after the end of the time window we had set up. (He did call to explain.) When he arrived he was quite knowledgeable about both the air conditioning system and the various rebates available, much more so than the other contractors we talked to. In a few days he sent us a quote with several options. We then set up a time for him to do the work - Friday morning. After sitting around all morning I finally got a hold of Rick around noon - the only line he answers is the one for quotes, the rest go to voice mail - and found that he had lost our appointment. He apologized and we set up a new appointment for the following Monday. On the third try, they arrived exactly on time. The installation went flawlessly. The work is high quality, they left the site clean and neat. They reinstalled the thermostat wiring where previous contractors had left it sloppy and ineffective. This was quite difficult. It is obvious why previous contractors had ignored the problem. The system they install works well and their work not only replaced our old, dead, central air conditioning but also improved our heating system. Mass Mechanical did an excellent job. We are quite happy with the work that they did.

We have been satisfied with them. We have used their services now for about eight years. They install and maintain Trane furnaces and air conditioners. The equipment and services are excellent. We use their services for regular maintenance, and my only complaint would be that the business office is sometimes unorganized.
