I called Phil and he called me right back that evening.  We discussed at length whether it made more sense to refinish the floor vs. polish the hardwood, and I ultimately decided for long-term maintenance to refinish the floor.  I had forgotten that the previous owners had stained the floor a dark stain, so when Phil showed up, he immediately pointed out that it was likely that dark stain would be taken off by the refinishing.  I was a little nervous but it turned out beautiful.  He also mentioned that refinishing the upstairs hallway would've resulted in too much contrast in color between that and the stairs (which I was not having refinished since it would've entailed removing the carpet rugs on the steps).  I appreciated that he anticipated this being an issue and voicing it appropriately.  The price can't be beat either - he even applied an Angie's list discount on my behalf when he learned that's how I got a hold of his name.
I was also very nervous that this job would leave a lot of fine dust everywhere, but Phil worked very cleanly.  I did not need to clean the floors after he left, and even other surfaces in the house were not victim to a lot of fine dust.  Realistically though, one should definitely expect a little bit of dust from this project.
Finally, I'll also add that Phil and his team were extremely trustworthy and I felt perfectly comfortable leaving them to work while I was at the office.  He even locked up behind himself when he left each day, even though he knew I'd be back in the evening to lock up.

I called Phil one evening and left a message for him to call me back. He called back that same evening and we set up an appointment at the house so he could review the job and issue a quote. Phil got back to me with a quote via email within the week.
He included $150 off with Angie's list coupon. We scheduled the work to be done during the last week of January.
Phil and his crew arrived as promised at 7:30am sharp and got right to work. The whole job took about three days and the floors look absolutely beautiful (like brand new). And the kitchen looks so unique having oak floors instead of new linoleum or tile.
Phil's crew was extremely neat and cleaned up everything. My only regret is that I wished I had taken pictures of the before and after look. I will definitely use Phil's Floor Services on future jobs.

Overall it went well. There are a couple of flaws, small tear in the wood in one spot and on the corners the stain took darker then the rest of the floor. It is shinier then expected even though we didn't go with high gloss. It is shinier than the pre-fab floors, but I am sure it will last longer and look better longer because of it. Overall, Phil was attentive, professional and followed up to make sure we were happy. He was reliable and did an ok job of keeping things clean except for covering up the vents ( we have force hot air) so dust immediately was all over the upstairs through the vents. A month later the house still gets dustier then normal. And the carpet exposed was not covered, so I am sure there is a lot of dust in the fibers of the carpet. But other than that, he covered the rest of the exposed rooms with plastic as best as possible.

I contacted Phil through AL. He emailed right back with an estimate of how much to refinish the floors of 2 walk-in closets. I was able to book a day to begin 4 days later.
Phil and his crew showed up on time. I left him a key to my house. There were no problems over the two days it took. He left the place cleaner than when he began both days.
I was thrilled with how great the floors came out. He's a pro. Hire this guy!

Phil came out and did an estimate right away. We were in the process of closing a house and the sellers agreed to let Phil in to take measurements of the house before we closed. Phil was very professional and was in and out within 10 minutes. We had originally scheduled to have the floors put in right after my closing but due to Hurricane Sandy, my closing was delayed two weeks. Phil was incrediblyunderstanding and worked with us even though at the time I couldn't give him a hard date on when I would be able to close. A couple days after the close, I met with phil and gave him my spare key. He offered to come in between jobs with his crew to do the prep work and did his best to fit us into the new schedule. Shortly after he told me that the plans had changed (I'm assuming another customer had to reschedule), and he was able to start working right away. His crew worked from Saturday to Wednesday... yes including Sunday and got the job done. They cleaned up each day and when I came back at night it was fun to see what progress was made. It was like flooring would appear in areas, stairs would appear, yet no mess was left. It was amazing. The floors are beautiful. The stairs are beautiful. If you look closely at the workmanship you will see extermely high quality. The cuts are absolutely perfect up against the door jambs. Phil and his crew are incredibly talented. I will continue to use Phil's Floor Services for all future projects!

Phil was terrific.  He came soon after I called and gave me a fine estimate for the work.  The work was begun and completed as scheduled with no problems.  He made a return visit to bring me some polyethylene and advised me on how to repair any scratches.  I could not have asked for more!

Phil came out within a day or so of contacting for estimate. He had a cancellation on Saturday. Workers came on Saturday and back on Monday to apply final coat.

Floors look better than I expected.

We were not able to move the heavy sofa-bed out of the living room and his crew moved it for us without hesitation. (first they had to take off the wooden legs to fit through the doorway) Not only they moved it out, but when the job was done, they moved it back in and applied felt pads to the legs so it won't scratch the brand new wood floor without me ever asking.
They also repaired a hole in the wall before putting the baseboard in one of our closet.
They made the new floor look so good we are considering doing the bedrooms also.

Floor was carpeted when we moved in and Phil did the demo and we discovered that the floor underneath was too uneven to install flooring. Found a contractor to level the floor and then Phil did install.  Worked quickly and professionally and cleanly. Very happy with service.

We recently got a quote from Phil for installation of new hardwood floors.  We ended up going with the contractor who was doing a larger renovation for us for convenience reasons (but we came very close to going with Phil).  He was incredibly responsive--we contacted him on Saturday and he came out on Sunday to look at the job and give us a quote.  He also sent us a quote in 24 hours (compared with several days to a week for the other quotes we got).  His price was also very reasonable.  I actually felt bad that we didn't end up going with him because he was so professional and great during the quote process but we were on such a tight timeline it made more sense to use 1 person for our whole renovation.  I have since referred him to 2 other people that I know because was so impressed by him.

I couldn’t be happier.  He did an unbelievable job.  He was completely professional and he showed up when he was supposed to.  He was even early.  There was no mess.  My house was built in the ‘50s and I think it was the original finish.  It was like night and day.  I used a coupon from Angie’s List for $100 off.  I would give him an A+.  Everything was exceptional. I had one room that he couldn't do because the previous owner had put vinyl tile on top of the hardwood floor.  He'll come back and do that later. 

We used Phil this spring on a house we had just bought. We had planned on a re-finishing job, but of course under the carpet was just subflooring.
Phil came out to quote the work for an install and was good about giving us options on the install and explaining the process. We were really happy about scheduling, since we wanted the work done before we moved in in two weeks, and it was finished the week after the quote. He and his team came in, did the job quickly and no dust! The oak floor looks beautiful - I actually had a friend lie down on it, amazed at its beauty! We'll be using him again for our next floor project -
Phil's really conscientious -as an example, we had just painted the rooms, and in moving the doors to install the flooring, made sure to put padding where they touched the walls so there was no scratching.

Phil was a pleasure to work with.  He promptly responded to me emails and was able to give me a rough estimate right away by sending him some pictures of our floor. The estimate sounded good and then Phil scheduled to come and look at the floors and got the offcial estimate.  A few weeks later we had the work was done and the floor look fantastic there were three really rough spots and Phil was able to make them all look like new.  The overall experience was great between the price, the quality of work and communication.  I would highly recommend Phil

I got 3 estimates for the work.  Phil was the only one who consistently, promptly contacted me whenever I reached out to him so even though his estimate was the highest I went with him (one of the vendors didn't get me an estimate until 14 days after they came to look at my floors!).  He and his crew arrived exactly when they said they would, and did exactly what they said they'd do with no extra costs.  They matched the color I wanted spot on.  I requested a semi-gloss finish and it is perfection.

From start to finish, I was really happy with the service I received from Phil's floors.  First impressions are important, and my first impression was very good.  When I called, I spoke to Ha, who was able to give me a ballpark estimate without the staining right then and there.  She was very knowledgable about the process and communicated my questions to Phil and got me a response in a very timely manner.  We only had 1 day in Boston for our closing, and Phil adjusted his schedule so that he could be at the home when we were, so he could provide a detailed estimate.  He came on time, and gave me a line by line estimate within a day.  The estimate was extremely fair and actually quite low based on another estimate I received from a contractor that couldn't be bothered to call me back.  (I had a night and day experience between the two contractors).  We also only had 18 days between the day Phil came to give us an estimate and the day we moved in.  He was exceptionally kind and worked out his schedule so that he could help us.
Also, after we decided to stain our floors, we decided to google the process of staining our maple floors.  We really freaked ourselves out.  Everything sounded so negative about the process.  Phil talked my husband through how he would make the color turn out as we wanted, and gave us a comfort level that Phil would be able to get us the color we wanted.  The result was fabulous.  The floors look exactly how we wanted and we didn't have to break the bank to get them that way.  We are extremely pleased and want to thank Phil for all his excellent work and the other angie's list subscribers that reviewed him.  It is thanks to you all that we contacted Phil in the first place!
Oh!  And I almost forgot, he left the apartment very clean and dust-free, and we were able to trust that he would manage his time in our absence (we were in Cali during the 18 day window), and he did not disappoint.  He even sent us a status email a week before the 18th to inform us of progress and let us know he was on track.  Without us even having to call.  It was really nice.

My floors and stairs look spectacular. They look better than I could have envisioned hardwood floors to appear!I selected Phil's Flooring primarily based upon the strength of the reviews on Angie's List.Phil, the business owner, was here working at my house the entire time with his crew. That was a major factor in my decision to hire Phil. Also,Phil's wife, who is  his receptionist, was extremely gracious in spending time with me on the phone answering my questions, another factor in my decision to hire Phil's Flooring.I will definitely call Phil when I need work done on the floors in the rest of my house.

I had three flooring contractors come to my house to give estimates on my kitchen flooring project. Phil was the nicest guy in the bunch and came across as very knowledgeable and skilled at all aspects of flooring. Well, his estimate was the lowest of either of the other contractors, plus he gave me $100 off since I found him on AL -- what could be better?! Phil showed up on all the days he was supposed to and did a fabulous job. He and his crew (he had one assistant) even cleaned all the dust off the furniture in my living room and the handrails that lead up to the kitchen level -- not only was I extremely grateful for this but I couldn't believe a contractor would do this! They put up plastic sheeting to minimize the dust getting throughout the house but if you've ever had any contractor work done at your house, you know that the dust still manages to get everywhere.
Phil also spoke with and met with my contractor on more than one occasion to go over details of the flooring, the height of the floor, special probs with the install, etc. My contractor said he was a pleasure to work with and could not believe that he charged "so little" for the project.  I will say that Phil charged more than I thought I would have to pay for the flooring project but remember that he was the cheapest of the three flooring contractors who gave me an estimate and that was before he took $100 off the price! And yes, he provided all the materials needed to do the job.
Anyway, the floor looks absolutely fabulous and I am very happy that I hired Phil to do the project. I interviewed well over a dozen contractors I found on AL to do work on my kitchen and Phil was the only one I hired. I cannot recommend this guy highly enough -- he's very responsible, prompt, skilled and affordable. I highly recommend Phil's Floor Services!

Phil came promptly to give me an estimate.  He took his time and really considered the work carefully.  He was very honest
in that he said that he wanted all the rooms empty where he would have to work.  There wasn't a lot of furniture, but it did
stack in the areas not being refinished, making it a bit difficult for him to maneuver.  He also wanted to use polyurethane, which meant that we had to leave the premises for 5 days.  As we are retired, we were happy to comply and took a mini vacation.  He did a great job!
I was concerned that the floors couldn't be restored adequately for sale of the house.  Phil did an amazing job at bringing the floors back to a beautiful sheen.  He finished the work a day early and kept me informed about the progress during the time we were away. We are extremely happy with the results.

Phil responded promptly (in less than a day) via email and phone, and came to give us an estimate within 48 hours.  I have to say, he was the only one who came for an estimate who got down and really looked at our floor and noticed the places where we had a little water damage (we have a drool-y English Mastiff).  He gave us an estimate of a little under $1000, which included a $100 coupon he had on Angie's List, for dustless sanding, 1 sealant and 2 coats of poly. (The estimates we received from other businesses ranged from $700 - $1800).  We called back and asked for an extra coat of poly due to the dog, which made our total estimate just under $1200. 

We were responsible for removing the furniture from the areas to be refinished.  Phil covered all the cabinetry and the shelves in the closets with plastic wrap.  We were out of town at the time of the service, but my father-in-law who let them in said they were prompt every day and did a great job with the care of our house and the whole refinishing process.  They finished the job in 4 days.

The floors are gleaming now!!  The bits of water damage are completely gone. Our floors have never looked this good, and we moved in here as new construction. There was a little bit of dust on surfaces, but very minimal compared to what I thought it would be.   The job and the cleanup were immensely well done. 

It was so long ago,  that I only remember how bad it looked before,  and how good it looks now!  We have pix of the finished work, if you'd like to see them, just email us.

Phil's floors was amazingly responsive, I called around 10 AM on a Wednesday and Phil was able to come by for an estimate at 6 PM that night.  I called back to book the following AM  to confirm and was able to schedule an appointment for the next Tuesday.  On the morning of the appointment, the team arrived promptly and got to work on sanding the floors (which was a much cleaner than expected procedure).  The seal coat was applied afterwards and all in all they were at the house for approximately half a day.

Late the next AM the team arrived to apply the finishing coats (approx 3 hours), from there we were told to stay off the floors for 3 days.

Overall the floors look tremendous and the patch repairs are seamless.  We've just moved into our house and it was clear that the floors hadn't had much attention in many (20+?) years, I found it inspiring for the restoration of the rest of our home with how great it makes the room feel now.

I interviewed several companies to refinish my hardwood floors, and I am so glad that I picked Phil! He responded quickly to my calls/emails, was very professional and did an amazing job with my floors! Everyone comments on how incredibly beautiful and well-done they are, including my interior designer and contractor.
