The administrative staff at Home Instead Senior Care of Northborough were always professional and courteous in our dealings with them. We terminated the service for 2 reasons: 1. We were able to find a private caregiver to provide the same overnight services for nearly half the cost charged by Home Instead, and 2. The home helper assigned to my father was not a good fit for him.
We were not aware of my father's dislike for the home helper until nearly a month into using the service. When asked about her, he would always say that she was fine. We now know he was not comfortable with her from the beginning, but didn't want to and quot;cause any problems.and quot;
When I notified Home Instead of our decision to terminate, Jen, the staff coordinator was most understanding. She regretted not knowing the personality conflict sooner (as did we!), but she respected my family's wishes to find care for my father elsewhere.
One issue I would caution potential clients to be aware of before using this company is the potential for extra fees not outlined in your written, signed contract. Our final bill included an extra $300+ charge for and quot;interrupted nightsand quot;, defined as 4 or more client awakenings during one night. Our signed contract made no reference to this fee, nor did the General Manager verbally inform us of this possibility when we met with her and signed contract. Although this fee is clearly stated on the rate card enclosed in client packet, but we never read it.

We are in the midst of it all right now. Things have gone very well so far.
I think it is important to allow time during the first visit for the worker and senior citizens to just establish some rapport. It is also important to give them specific chores to do. Sending them on errands is fine- if they know the area. In our care, the worker grew up very close by my parents' home and so she is ideal for sending on errands. You do pa 65 cents/mile extra for this service- but well worth it for groceries, picking up medications etc.
Make sure that you keep the lines of communication. Very easy for seniors to feel that they a e being pushed around in their own home.. it is very hard for them to downsize and to come to accept assistance...go slow... communicate with the office regularly
