The experience was EXCEPTIONAL. The 3 member team came on time, worked non-stop and were very careful with our furniture and other equipment. We had a lot of fragile china and other delicate items. The packing and loading was a bit of a production as we lived in a downtown apartment - whch meant take the equipement down via a freight elevator, through the back entrance onto the truck. Yet, the team removed our furniture and boxes in 3 hours (and we had close to 70 boxes). The house we moved into is brand new with high quality hard wood floor. The team took special care to ensure that they help protect the floor. Most importantly, the team members were highly respectful, willing to go the extra mile and exceedingly efficient. We have moved a few times before and have had all kinds of experiences. These guys did a high quality job for the most reasonable price so far. All the other estimates and quotes we received were $400 - $600 higher and somewhat restrictive. The team is highly flexible, hassle-free and efficient. I would strongly reccomend them.

They give you up until one day before the move to revise the list of items you are moving, and go by your list of items, so they are very flexible that way. Our moving coordinator Erika, was extremely responsive to my questions throughout the process, and Gil, who initially came to do our estimate was very professional. We packed our boxes ourselves, and just FYI you can't insure anything you pack yourselves. We had a lot of our boxes in a 5 x 15' storage unit about 5 miles from our house and the company was nice enough to make the extra stop free of charge. The movers arrived in a timely way and packed our furniture very carefully. They also put down a lot of blankets on our carpet because it was raining. The five young men were very careful handling our furniture and the only thing that could have been improved was the order of the box stacking since I had color coded boxes based on bottom, middle and top of stack to avoid crushing. However, it may not have been practical for them to do it efficiently and although some boxes got a little "mushed," no damage was done to the contents. ( I did label the FRAGILE ones and they were careful to take care of those packages.)
It takes them 7-14 business days to travel across the country, based on where their tractor trailer is at the time of origin. We had them pick up our items Nov. 14 (they used a smaller truck, then put it in a holding facility until the large truck arrived), had cleaners come to our house the next day, then closed on our house Nov. 16. By the time we got to our apartment in CA it was Nov. 23 (day after Thanksgiving). We called to find out when the driver would be arriving and got word that he would be there on Nov. 26. This was OK with us given the holidays and our expectations. The movers on the CA end were also very good, professional and patient, esp. because we had a LOT of stuff to put into a tiny space!! We had gotten rid of a lot of furniture but there was still a lot of "figuring out" to do on the fly when we had no basement but still had 2 mattresses, 2 china cabinets, a love seat, reclining chair, coffee table, a whole office set and more. 2 of the CA movers were locals and the other 2, including the driver, were apparently from MA. I couldn't believe the driver was rested enough to spend the energy he did helping with the move. It was raining so hard when their truck arrived that they had to sit around for a couple hours before unloading, and didn't complain.
Overall, 5 stars for Five Stars Movers!!!

Five star movers were great! They worked quickly and efficiently. All of their workers were friendly and accommodating, even when we wanted the same piece of furniture moved to a couple different locations. They went above and beyond and finished the work in the estimated time span. The final total was slightly over the quoted amount, but not by much.

We had packed quite a lot of our non-fragile and some fragile personal effects (44 boxes), leaving crystal, fragile figures, a few trunks and all heavy furniture to be packed by 5 Star. They finished the packing in less than one day (3 packers, 2 with experience) and placed everything in storage at our request. One month storage was free. One month while we looked for a property was a $300 charge. At the receiving end, everything arrived in good shape at the time we requested, the unpacking/assembling the furniture/putting it in the rooms we indicated was also finished in one day. Nothing arrived broken. There were a few minor scratches on furniture.
The price was the best of all the bids we received and we were a bit doubtful that the service would turn out as well as it did. Job well done. The staff (administrative--Erika--and the movers) were all respectful and diligent. Two minor comments we have: 1) we expected them to haul some of the packing material away (they didn't--we tossed it in the dumpster near the property). 2) we were informed that they had up to 10 days after our requested date to deliver which would have occasioned extra costs for us; fortunately, they were able to deliver within only a few days of our requested date. We remain satisfied customers and would recommend their services to others.

about our needs, which was rewarding and if we had been under time
pressure for our move would have won them for us. Their onsite person was slightly nervous at the time, but still did an adequate job of categorizing our moving needs. Their quote was middle of the pack.

The folks at Five Star Movers were great. They arrived on time closer to the beginning of the window they provided and once I gave them a walk through of the apartment they went right to work. My wife and I had done most of the packing beforehand so they were moving basically boxes, but they also wrapped up our larger furniture in moving blankets and tape and did so in an efficient manner. Upon arrival at our new apartment, they did a fast job moving our stuff into our place and placed the furniture and boxes in the appropriate rooms. We had never used professional movers before and we will never go back to moving ourselves again!.
For our move we were quoted as needing 4 hours plus one hour of travel time. The three men moved quickly and were able to do the work in about an hour less than required and saved us the extra hour of fees. None of the items were broken when we arrived, and aside from a little nick on the leg of our sofa, the item came to us scratch free. They didnt use an excessive amount of tape/supplies and there werent many additional fees tacked onto the quote aside for about $10 in tape. Overall it was a great experience and the team we had were very friendly. The Angies List discount was a nice bonus to use these guys as well. If you are looking for a good experience for an intercity move, these guys will get the job done.

We regret using Five Stars Movers. I honestly don't know how these could be the same movers who received all those great reviews here on Angie's list. But first the positives: both of the crews who came to our home (one crew to move the stuff out, and a different crew 1 week later to move everything back in) were polite, fast, and (especially the second crew) eager to please. The problem was that these guys clearly were not trained/knowledgeable in how to move or store items in order to make sure that they don't get damaged. They shrink-wrapped some of our furniture, but not everything. When we checked on how they were storing the furniture in our garage, we were very concerned with how they were stacking things one on top of the other, with no padding in between. They said they couldn't leave padding in our home for a week. I can understand that, but if we had known that in advance, we could have prepared for that. We had plenty of blankets and towels that they could have used, etc. Plus we heard some loud noises while they were moving our oven, and sure enough, the porcelain finish on our stove top was nicked in a few different places. We spoke to the manager, Tony Escobar, about our concerns, and the only thing he offered was to send in a different crew to move our things back into our home. Well the second crew tried but again they weren't properly trained. For example, watching them move our fridge back into our home was downright scary. Two of the men hurt their hands carrying it through the outside doorway (standard doorway in a newer home), and they dropped the fridge. We also watched in horror as they brought our furniture back in and we saw how much damage had been done to so many pieces of our furniture, probably from how it had been stacked/stored. Final damage tally: in addition to the stove, many of our nicest pieces of furniture were scratched or gouged. Plus they scratched the hardwood floors that were just re-finished.

This was my first time using professional movers, and I was very pleased with the entire process. I did not give all A's only due to the crew being later than promised (which happens and was just fine in the end) and due to a couple of items broken/ scratched (which also happens and is not completely unexpected). The crew of 3 movers arrived and got right down to business even with the scorching temperatures. They took great care of all my furniture and packing my things into the truck. I was dubious as to if it would all fit, but these guys obviously know what they are doing. They were so fast, I couldn't believe it. We try to have most of our things ready to go straight onto the truck, and it seemed to really help the process. I even watched them take apart some of my furniture in ways I didn't know it came apart! The best thing (besides not having to do this myself!) was that they came in under the quote...by an hour and a half! This is probably due to the fact we tried to get things ready as much as possible and they didn't have to take a lot of things apart and wrap them, but still..awesome!! And the price they gave me for 3 guys and a truck per hour on the last day of the month was the BEST! Other companies had quoted me up to 3 times the price. Overall, I would use this company again in a heartbeat. I was very happy with the whole process!

We had rented temporarily until we purchsed a home. A lot of our "stuff" was still in boxes from our FL move. They guys showed up on time, loaded up the boxes and furniture and packed a few cabinets in the kitchen.When we arrived at our new home, they guys unloaded everything and either put things in the basement or the first floor because our second floor was being rennovated.They did a great job.

We LOVED our experience using Five Star Movers. I researched hard before choosing to hire movers. I checked references, peoples experiences, read reviews, had over 4 movers come to give estimates, etc. Five Stars from the start had a great attitude, price, and everything just seemed more smooth.
They sent someone to the house to quote - and sure enough, I needed 2 trucks, 5 movers.The hourly rate was reasonable for 5 men, and 2 trucks, and they were competitive with many other companys I contacted.What got me, is that they gave me a maximum price, and if they went lower than the max, I would get get charged the least amount. They also charged 1 hour travel, regardless of how long that took.
We saved money by packing ourselves, breaking down our beds and huge items, buying our own boxes and mattress bags, and tape.
The movers arrived on time - both days, since we had to store our stuff on the truck for 48 hours.No one smoked, nothing broke, We bought them bagels w/. cream cheese each day, and the break they took to nibble was ridiculously shortAll 5 movers were all so nice and respectfulI even made them re-move a few heavy bureaus and they were pleasant about it.
They ended up being over 1000 under estimate!!!! We were sooooo happy.It helped that we did our own break down and pack - but still!!! That was awesome, and so are they,They are great, use them!

I first called 5 Star Movers for an estimate on moving. Ericka was efficient, professional and friendly while helping me fill out the inventory list. Her estimate was timely and she accomodated our moving schedule on relatively short notice. When Gustav and his crew showed up on moving day, they arrived exactly when they said they would. They worked incredibly fast and were very careful with our things. I was really impressed with the way they packed the truck - so tightly that nothing moved! When we arrived at the new house and they unpacked - everything was delivered to the appropriate rooms and reassembled. I have no idea how they stayed so cheerful throughout the day - they made the move much easier than I could have imagined. After everything was unloaded, Gustav asked if there was anything we'd like them to relocate, or any heavy boxes we wanted moved.They were all totally awesome! I would recommend this company without hesitation and would definitely use them again if - God forbid - I have to move.

Their representative walked through our house, gave us an estimate which they stuck with; also estimated number of boxes we would need, etc.. They offered to sell us boxes, or do the packing; we turned down both, no pressure (got our boxes from U-Haul).
On moving day, they arrived right on time, dis-assembled beds, etc., re-taped/labeled boxes where needed, virtually ran back and forth to the truck, stacked everything in convenient order for unloading. As promised, they showed up at our Maryland house at 8:00 a.m., positioned all cartons as marked, reassembled beds and lamps, were done in a couple of hours. They were very polite, a pleasure to work with. At the end, we gave them a tip by check, since we are reimbursed by employer; they explained they would prefer cash, but no argument. If we have a chance to use them again, we would.

These guys provided me with the single best moving experience I ever had. First: their pre-move communication was excellent (Erika is great!). Second: their quote was SIGNIFICANTLY less than the more well-known Boston moving company; and my final cost was actually equal to the original quote!! The guys were professional and hardworking and completed the entire job in exactly 5 hours. All the furniture was reassembled and put in place and in perfect condition. Excellent service!!

We sold our house and are downsizing to a townhouse in the same town. Before the move the representative discussed our move we agreed that rather than havign one truck and a crew of 3 that it would be best to have a crew of 4. This was due to the weight and size of some of the pieces and entry at the new house.
I had quotes from 10 companies and while Five Star was not the lease expensive they were competitive (set the travel time cost to 1 hour) and really looked at the individual components of the move in quoting the job. I had provided a detailed list of what we were moving.
The crew arrived right on time. They surveyed the move to understand what we were storing in the garage at the new house vs. using in the living areas. Everything went smoothly. There were some rubs on the wall but that were not a real problem.
The total time was right about as estimated and the crew worked continuiously all day. I would use them again.

We had a last minute closing on our house (after waiting nearly 2 months and living in a hotel for over 3 months), and we were pretty desperate to get into our home as soon as humanly possible. I sent an email on the evening Dec. 8th to Five Star Movers and received an email response and a follow-up phone call the next morning.
Not only did they send an estimate via email, but they were very flexible with our hectic schedule as well. On the day of the move we were to meet the 3 gentlemen at the storage facility in the afternoon. They called to say that their earlier scheduled move was taking a bit longer than they had planned, and offered to either re-schedule us for the next morning, or to wait an hour. We opted to wait and they arrived within the secondary time-frame. We were very impressed with the way they communicated with us, ensuring we knew what was going on rather than just making us wait and wonder.
The three gentlemen showed up in near freezing tempts and even after working all day at their previously scheduled job, they went straight to work. They were amazingly fast, careful, and pleasant to deal with. They thanked us for holding the door, always asked where we would like specific boxes and items, and even took the time to help us put the felt pads on the feet of our sofa to protect the hard-wood floors. Even maneuvering a heavy and awkward sleeper-sofa through a dark back yard and down through the basement door couldn't dim their spirits or slow them down. We weren't even sure the sofa would fit through the inner doorway...but they did it without even flinching.
Bonus: They were way under their estimate!
I've moved a lot in my life...across town, across the country, and even across the globe, but I've yet to meet such an efficient and pleasant crew as this. I am not planning on moving within the next decade, but if I do need a mover, I will not hesitate to call Five Star Movers and I'm recommending them to anyone who is in need of professional movers.

The 3 movers arrived within the time period that was predicted. They were very professional and did a good job carefully wrapping up my furniture to protect them. They were quick at emptying my apartment of the furniture and boxes. Once at the new apartment building they did another quick job at unloading my things. The only two things that I was a little concerned about was that I witnessed a box being dropped from high on a pile (luckily it didn't contain breakables and all was ok), and a lot of the boxes were placed upside down in my apartment. But despite that I was very pleased with the overall job they performed and nothing was broken and all the furniture was in good shape. I would definitely recommend them as they gave a realistic, reasonable estimate and stuck to their estimate (actually slightly lower than estimate as it took them a little less time than they predicted).

Five Stars moved me from Quincy to Reading, including overnight storage of my furniture on their truck. They took our half-packed stuff and a big delay in delivery the next day in stride, and delivered everything for less than their estimate.

Excellent service! They picked up all my belongings from my apartment in Providence, Rhode Island, and then drove to my boyfriend's house in Cranston, Rhode Island and loaded up all his belongings. They moved us in to our new home in Somerville, Massachusetts. They disassembled and reassembled all of our furniture and did an awesome job. I can't believe how smoothly and quickly this went. They were tireless! And we paid about a thousand dollars less than the other 4 quotes I got in preparation for this process.
