After we established price and after he very patiently answered my questions, Lincoln Gaudet (owner) came to the house with the compressor and pad. The next day, a crew of four arrived and began the rest of the process. It required a total of two days to complete the entire job. Lincoln would not leave until he had demonstrated the system, explained the process of filter cleaning (it's a washable filter in this Carrier model), and showed me how quiet the system is in operation. I don't have an idea about how this system will handle a 95-degree day in July (it's only March 1 when I'm writing this), but I have absolute confidence in Lincoln Gaudet and his integrity. One side benefit, his crew of installers is warm, friendly and really seems to enjoy its work. I asked questions, and got ready answers from all of them. They were very tolerant of a compulsive home-owner.
Description of Work: We needed air conditioning for the first floor of a two-floor CE colonial brick structure in Brookline. We sought proposals from four contractors. The resulting proposals ranged from $6500 to $17,000(!). A friend suggested we try Lincoln Mechanical, a dealer in Carrier AC products. Lincoln Gaudet (owner) came to the house, discussed the job in a detailed manner with special attention to cellar space limitations, and was sensitive to the aesthetic concerns of placement of returns, ducts, etc. He gave detailed explanations of SEER ratings, compressor capacity, and the noise (or lack thereof) of the compressor (outside the house) and the air handler (moves the air around inside the house). Our job was about 1250 square feet, as the second floor was already air-conditioned. Lincoln Mechanical installed six floor ducts, and one central (6" X 30") return. The job included a new thermostat which will control the new AC, and the existing hot-water heating system.
