Tom Of All Trades

Tom is a great guy and very conscientious.  He shows up when he says he will and he works quickly and efficiently. I would absolutely use him again for most jobs.  He did a great job putting in the dog door, which ended up being pretty complicated due to the positioning and size of the existing exterior door, placement of the door knob in relation to the oversize dog door, and the fact that there was a major step down that had to be factored in (i.e., would the dog trip and fall going through).  During the most recent visit, he also put some lattice up along the open side of our deck stairs to keep the dog and other critters out.  We supplied the dog door and the lattice by our preference, although he would have been happy to do that for us.
We have used him previously to repair some siding and re-install broken bannisters on an indoor stair.  I know we've used him on other jobs as well, although I cannot remember details.
All that said, he is not a finish carpenter nor does he pretend to be one.  If you have a project where the detailed appearance will matter, I might not use him.  Other than that, I think he is great.

We have had Tom several times over the last 2 years. Very pleasant, reliable and good at his work. He can repair or fix almost anything..large or small job. We will certainly be calling him again!

The estimate was competitive and he did the installation work only a week after. He did a good job on the deck.

Let's get the "bad" out of the way first: His pricing is a little high, and he's not always the finest craftsman. That being said, Tom is extremely honest and conscientious. He has a wide range of skills, and will go the extra mile to make sure you're happy. If a job is out of his area of expertise or ability to handle, he'll recommend an appropriate alternative. He is very pleasant and works very hard. For many tasks that we've hired him for, I wouldn't recommend anyone else with higher praise.

Contacted him by phone and he asked me to email him a photo of the rotten wood. I did so, but did not receive a reply. About 6wks later, I called him again and he agreed to come that week to look at the work. He did not come or call. I called a third time and expressed my concern. He responded and came within 3 days to give estimate. He called to reschedule job due to weather (completely appropriate) and then came on schedule. Work was done nicely and efficiency. Very satisfied with quality and responsiveness (once he had engaged with job). However, he could benefit from more organization regarding scheduling/communication.

Tom is the most honorable business man we know. If he cannot fix it he will find someone who can. If it is an emergency he will be right there. We would recommend him to anyone.
