Roughly one year after they were hired, our treasurer noted some 'weirdness' in our accounts.  However, we were in contact with Heidi regularly who reassured us that John would call us and 'straighten it out.'  Then, in January, the day after the second big snowstorm of the season hit, we got a call from our neighbor informing us that there had been a fire in the basement.  We rushed home to find the fire inspector in the basement with John, who had been in the basement at the time.  The fire was suspicious, and the inspector was curious to know if we "had a contentious relationship with our property manager?"   Turns out, we did.  Heidi called to say that she was 'sick' over what was going on, and she finally gave us access online to our own accounts.  John had been making unauthorized distributions from our checking account and our reserve.  Ultimately, he withdrew about $7K. I hounded him for a month, during which he lied, staged a 'theft', and avoided me in order to get the money back.  I had to go to his father to get enough pressure on John to repay us; and repay he did.
