The grooming done was great, and I was very pleased with how my dog looked. My only complaint was that I dropped him off first thing in the morning, and it was agreed that I could pick him up mid-afternoon. When I arrived to get him, they had not even started the grooming, so I had to come back an hour later. The owner was very apologetic and gave me a free doggie daycare visit. This was my first visit to Captivating Canines, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt that this was an unusual occurrence. I will definitely go back to them. The shop was very clean, and the animals seemed comfortable in their environment.

cece. II went here because of the good reviews on Angies list, and I'm new to the area. After this experience, I'll drive the 90 miles back to my old groomer to get my dog groomed properly. On the phone everything sounded good, she pushed day care a little, but so had others in the area, so I thought it might just be something on the Cape that they do (which I don't need) so I let it go and went there anyway. The place was clean, the woman I spoke with nice. I dropped off my dog after explaining he just needed a short all over trim, with shampoo and nails cut as well. Four hours later they called to pick him up.
Thats when the problems started. A young girl whom I hadn't met was working behind the counter and started asking me questions about my dog, saying she couldn't cut his hair down enough because she was afraid of nicking his skin with his ribs. Now I'm looking at my poor SHAVED dog think what the Heck is she talking about, how much more did she think she could cut his hair? She already went far too short! But this was the first time I was there and I didn't want to cause trouble, I just wanted to take my dog and go. But she wouldn't give me my dog. She then started asking what I was feeding him, he was too thin, was I not feeding him enough ...
Now my dog is exactly the proper weight for his breed. What he isn't, is Overweight, which is what most groomers are used to seeing. So I explained to her that he was not underweight, he was the correct weight that the vet wants him to be, in fact it has taken three years for us to get him down to his weight from being grossly overweight. Her response? Well I think you should get a second opinion from another vet. (I even explained my dogs Diet to this girl). End result (Ithought) I got my dog and left.
Fast forward to today - Knock on my door - DOG POLICE - The GROOMER - reported me for apparently "starving" my healthy dog. Much to the surprise of the dog officer when she showed up to find my baking dog biscuits for my perfectly healthy dog.
This is what happens when you let a GROOMER with Maybe 10 WEEKS Education (if you are lucky) think they know more than a vet that has to go to college for at least eight years then intern for four more with animals then take exams all before they can become a vet, but anyone in MASS can do grooming with little to no knowledge, and think that overweight dogs are healthy. Perhaps she should have weighed him before she showed her ignorance with the breed of dog that was brought in.
It wasn't all bad, however, the dog officer gave me the name of a good groomer that She uses so I guess I won't have to go back to CT to get my dog groomed after all. That is, when his hair eventually grows back.

I highly recommend her to any dog owner. I've even taken a friend's dog to Shauna. Again, great results.
