I tried three other companies to get the work done. One never called back, Another did not understand geothermal wells, and the final one wanted to sell me complex pumps and controllers, replace all pipe and all wiring. I was going to use that last company, and made an appointment for the work. They did not show up for the appointment, nor did they call to let me know. I rescheduled the appointment and once again they did not show. As they say, fool me once . . . So I searched again. I found County Pump online and they seemed have satisfied customers. I called the company and Chip, the owner, took my information by phone. Just using that information, he gave me a quote that was accurate, detailed and covered what was discussed. I liked his approach in that he determined that the original piping materials in the two geothermal wells could be reused as return lines from the house. In addition, he said he would reuse the wiring if it was in good condition. That was all important in that the wire alone is about $3 a foot and I needed about 1,000 feet of wire overall. So that approach saved me about $3,500 in materials, not to mention the labor. He also did not try to sell me expensive controllers for the pumps (variable speed controllers) as it was not clear that they would appreciably decrease my power usage. His view was that they could be added later if needed, and that their expense could not be justified at this time (around $2,500 a pump, so another $5,000 saved.) He also said that when the pumps fail you often will have to replace the controller, so you need to save a lot of electricity to offset the expense of the controllers over the life of the pumps. The crew showed up on time, ready to work The crew of two worked all day, around 11 hours, with little rest. They knew what they were doing, did not mess around, but were also very helpful in explaining what they were doing. This latter aspect was important as I had little to no documentation on the wells and thus was recreating all that information (the downside of purchasing a foreclosed home.) When they arrived, they had the new pumps, piping and related materials with them. The crew repaired the two geothermal wells, the domestic well and also did some testing of all the wells. Wherever possible, they resued the materials that were already installed so long as such materials were operational. They did a walk through at the end, giving me pointers and tips on the operation of the system. They also guaranteed their work. I highly recommend County Pump. They will have my business going forward and I will recommend them to my new neighbors.
