About us
We know it can be very daunting to start a new project, especially a larger job like a kitchen or bath remodel. That’s why we work very closely with each client in a personalized atmosphere using our design expertise to help make every detail perfect. We are a locally owned and operated small business that has its roots on Boston’s South Shore, in the Canton community. The company was started by John Dolan Sr. and his wife Gail in 1962. Currently we are operated by 3 of their 5 children, 1 in-law, and 2 grandchildren have continued the tradition. John Dolan Jr. runs the jobs, overseeing all crews - with 7 trucks on the road daily. Lorraine keeps the office running smoothly and is in the showroom 5 days a week, along with John's sister-in-law, Ronny. Caroline visits your home for thorough kitchen and bath design and measuring for your project. John’s son Johnny, who recently graduated high school and has joined the company as one of the crew also generates 360 panoramic kitchen designs. Caroline’s daughter Rebecca helps out in the office weekly with filing and various other tasks. Our current and largest location is in Canton Center, Walgreen's Plaza. This larger showroom allows us to showcase our beautiful kitchen displays. We also display vanity cabinets, countertops, sinks and faucets. In addition, you can see our large selection of flooring, including prefinished hardwood, tile, laminate flooring, and carpeting. We have samples that you are welcome to take home. Our showroom gives you a one-stop shopping experience! We offer design services and detailed estimates, competitive prices, and a one-stop shopping experience that you won’t find anywhere else on the South Shore. We scheduled an appointment and met with Caroline. She took the measurements and within a few days provided us with a written estimate. While the cost provided was to high for us, we did feel that it was competitive and that Caroline did a fine job. We decided to go in a different direction, one that was more cost effective for us. Knowing that, Caroline provided us with a contractor who's work she had seen at another clients location. We would highly recommend Dolan to anyone and would call them back when we need other work done. Thank you Caroline, it worked out well for us.

Very professional from quote to change orders to completion. We didn't like the way the tall, pantry cabinets blocked in the kitchen so they came out and discussed alternatives. The shortened cabinet is my favorite space. They are coming back to do two bathrooms.

It went really well. They started the project several weeks sooner than we expected (which was great, items were already in stock) and they finished up in 2 weeks as promised. The workers were very neat and considerate of our home as they came and went. The only glitches had to do with the vanity top and tiles for the walls. In both cases, the items we selected turned out not to be available. It was a bit of bummer having to go back twice, first to select a different vanity top and then a different tile for the walls. That said, the sales staff was extremely helpful and we're just as happy with our second picks.

I went to the showroom, picked what I wanted, and then Caroline came to me to measure, and 2 weeks later we had the install. The best experience ever!

These are first class people who do first class work. John and his crew know their stuff inside out. His sisters run the office and expertly help plan and select materials and fixtures. The whole family is extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and just a pleasure to work with. Our three bathrooms were gutted to bare walls and totally renovated. They came out even better than we'd dared to hope. John solved every problem we'd identified going in, plus figured out solutions to problems we hadn't even recognized we had. They are fair, honest, and totally professional.

It took 3 weeks, which is what I was told. But they made it as easy as it could be. They let me know when they or subcontractors would be there. I live in a small condo so there is very little place to put anything when it is not in it's appropriate place. I have no back door, so they had to walk thru my living room/dining area taking out the old kitchen and installing the new. They put down sticky plastic over the wall to wall rug where they walked and tarps over that. They cleaned up every time they worked, and left nothing behind. When the cabinets came they were all over my living room along with everything else that I had stored from the kitchen, dining and living rooms. But they moved all the cabinets into the kitchen at the end of the day so I could move thru the area. All the appliances were neatly stored in my dining area, on large thin wooden boards to protect the rug. They also came back for some small problem areas. Everyone, from the ladies, helping me make choices in the show room, to John and all the workers, including the subcontractors were very professional and helpful. They helped me thru a process that I was very nervous about doing, guiding me thru every step. I would definitely recommend them to others.

We realized we were paying top dollar but decided to proceed to get this done quickly and well by a contractor highly recommended on Angie's list. We were told it would be a 2 day job - took 2 weeks. We
had to call them back to fix leaking pipe, seal sinks, cover hole in floor, resand walls - things that we did not feel we should have had to point out. The good news was that they were accessible and did come back to fix things when we asked.

I am very happy with it. There are just a few little finish touches left to do. They started in May. They were very professional and completely knew what they were doing. They were right on with the design. They were very helpful with suggestions on how to lay things out. They had a great selection to pick from.

Caroline came to my house did all the measurement. We spent almost 40 minutes discussing projects. Then we never heard from her again. Total waste of time.

"I was very suprised to see [member name removed] review, so I looked into his file. Unfortunately, it was then that I realized that the email I sent him 3 days after our meeting containing my estimate actually got sent back to me because of a typo in his email address. I don't know how I didn't see that bounce-back, but maybe because it got sent to him on July 3, and we closed for the holiday weekend. I have since resent the estimate, but I know they had a time restraint. We try very hard to get all estimates out in a very timely manner, particularly if someone has a timing issue. I regret that I did not follow up with a phone call to make sure he got the email with my estimate."

The job started on time approx 1 week delay due to structural problem with home. From there everything flowed beautifully. Worker pleasant, easy to have in home, professional. Responsive & excellent quality!

They were outstanding. Caroline was excellent - came out immediately to meet with us and talk about options. We received a quote the next day and all the work was performed within the timeframe they said they would. The installers were ontime, professional and did a top notch job. I chose the Dolans after receiving estimates from other companies, based on the reviews from Angie's List. Their price was on the higher side, but having the showroom close by and someone (Caroline) to help with the design and specific product choices was really helpful as I had never done a remodel before. The entire process went very smoothly from start to finish. I contacted them in July, 2012 and once the contract was signed, work began in mid August. John's estimate was that it would take 3-4 weeks to complete and he was right on target. The majority of work was completed by the end of week 3 and the finishing details were done by end of week 4.
No structural work was needed, but the entire old kitchen was torn out. They installed new custom cabinets, tile floor, installed my new appliances, sink, and tile back splash, granite counter tops and redesigned lighting. I also chose some special details including a floor tile patten insert in front entrance hallway. After hearing many unhappy stories from others who had undertaken remodels, I was prepared for things to go wrong, etc. I am happy to say that nothing did, and the entire job went as planned. John and his crew were super and Caroline and Loraine at the showroom were fantastic at keeping track of the schedule and ordering the correct supplies needed for the job.
I feel like I now have my "dream kitchen" and would definitely recommend this company. Bottom line, you get what you pay for! The final cost for the project was fair for the quality products used and the highly professional service.

It was simple. Dolan started the project on the date they promised, completed the project by the date promised, and delivered what they promised! There were no additional charges other than when we chose to select a higher priced granite.
All of the workers were pleasant, helpful, and respective of us and our property. They took the time to seal off the other areas of the house with plastic to control the dust as much as possible which they removed each evening. They performed all of the demolition and disposal of the materials and for the most part cleaned up after themselves.
Caroline performs all of the front office functions for kitchen remolding with Lorraine providing back up. Lorraine handles the bathroom remodeling part of their business. John handles all of the on-site work coordinating the various workers, providing supervision, and performing some of the tasks. They were readily available and always responded to our questions and concerns during the whole process.
We highly recommend Dolan based on our experience. We did go through the quote process with 6 other kitchen remodeling/cabinet makers to allow us to make an informed decision. We also used Angie's list to do our research and were impressed with the reviews that Dolan received. An important factor in choosing Dolan was that one company was responsible for all the facets of the remodeling and that we weren't coordinating and chasing people to complete their tasks.
Dolan was able to complete the project in less than 4 weeks from start of kitchen demolition to project completion which we were most thankful for as the next day was Thanksgiving.

Caroline, their main customer liaison, came and talked to us about what kind of counter we wanted, and provided some options. We had a lot of back and forthing about whether or not to put in a backsplash -- she is very meticulous about how things will look, and strongly suggested putting in a granite one over the existing tile, but was very thorough in going over possible aesthetic problems, such as how high to make the backsplash, and whether it would be possible to align the top with the tile line. Unfortunately, nobody noticed the fact that several of our outlets and the disposal fixture were close to the actual counter, which made it difficult to impossible to put in a backsplash without either moving the fixtures (expensive to impossible) or interrupting the backsplash (which would look bad). So we nixed the backsplash.
The actual installation went fairly well. The existing faucet turned out not to work with that thickness of granite, so the plumber John Dolan had hired couldn't do the work. The Dolan people did not charge us for the visit, which I appreciate. A fair amount of granite chips from the old counter fell into pots and drawers beneath. When I mentioned this to Caroline, she said that was pretty common for such jobs. When the old counter came out, it left a small but noticeable in the wall. They partially patched it, but it was still quite noticeably a hole. They said it was a preexisting gash that happened when the previous counter was installed, and when it was removed, the patch came with it. I believe them. However, they left it in bad shape and did not mention the problem to us. Caroline offered to come in and patch the hole free of charge, which I appreciate. However, we also want to repaint it so I said we'd have our painter do the whole job. Overall, they were very responsive and did good work.

Mr. Dolan's office called within one day of our email. They wanted to let us know that he was backed up until December, but were we interested in waiting. While we want the work done sooner than that, we were very impressed and appreciative of the fact that Mr. Dolan's office contacted us rather than just not respond because he was booked up. We found this company on Angie's List because we had prior bad experiences with contractors. They came right out for an evaluation of the job, but took a while to return an estimate. I was almost ready to move on to another contractor. They must be very busy. But, once we got back in touch, everything went smoothly. The job was a little more difficult because we had to knock down a wall. They handled it well. They showed up daily as agreed and on time - even when we forgot to leave the door open, they waited patiently. They are very professional and able to address and resolve any concerns that arose. On the days we were waiting for deliveries, they were able to complete a job (for a fee) which was left unfinished by another contractor. The Kitchen remodel was completed as scheduled. If I could make one comment, I was a little surprised that they did not paint the kitchen when they were done. I previously assumed that painting was part of the job. So, you may need to discuss this with them. We love our new kitchen.
