When we activated the system it did not work because they gave us a T-Mobile wireless connection and our home is in a Verizon receiving area. They sent a chip and they wanted us to install that, it is a good thing that my husband knew how to replace it. The lady on the phone, I thought was going to send a new unit but she sent a chip instead. The few times that I did call they were very nice and professional, we are happy with the system now and the installation was pretty easy. We did a have a miscommunication on the amount of eyes for the system and there was a lag time in getting the system on due to that.
Description of Work: I bought a Big Deal for an alarm system. I had to purchase about 11 door sensors. I purchased one fire, one carbon monoxide, and an extra key pad. I also purchased two water sensors.

I ordered an alarm package from Simpli Safe after finding a deal on Angie's List. I have heard too many negatives about companies like AD&T, and I am pretty good when it comes to DIY. I looked at the options that the different systems had, and found one that would meet my basic needs, as well as be expandable in the future, if I wanted to add additional sensors down the road. I placed the order, and in a few days, my alarm installation kit arrived. It was very easy to set up by following the instructions in the kit. I was able to get things up and running in no time at all. I did notice that one of the door sensors was DOA when I got it, but after a quick e-mail to Simpli Safe, they had a replacement on the way, free of charge. I also was missing the large yard sign that the package I purchased was supposed to come with, but they sent that out as well. The system is really easy to use. I like the fact that the system is not dependent on your house power to operate as thieves will typically cut the power prior to a break in to defeat alarm systems. The other thing that is great about the system is that it uses cell phone technology to call in alerts, so even if thieves cut the phone line, the alarm will still be able to alert the police. I have piece of mind knowing that my pets are protected while I am away at work. The smoke detectors that I purchased are linked to the system, so in the event of a fire, they will dispatch the fire department in the event of an alarm. The other nice aspect of the system is that I can cancel it at any time! They also have different levels of coverage, so if money becomes an issue down the road, I can switch to a cheaper monitoring plan without some of the bells and whistles that I currently enjoy now.

The system arrived in no time and we were able to install it pretty easily. The only issue we had was getting the system to connect to the response center and for whatever reason we couldn't get through to Simplisafe when we tried to call in the evenings and weekends. However, we finally did get in touch and all is hooked up and ready to go. Great value and very easy to use.

We purchased an alarm system through Angie's List from SimpliSafe but had to return it because it didn't work. I installed it based on the instructions, and thought everything was working, but I kept getting an error message on the 'home base'. The company sent emails with instructions on how to trouble shoot the problem, but the solution didn't work. For some reason, they couldn't get a signal from the home base. The company also instructed me to check with my local police department to see if I needed a permit for a self-installed alarm system that would contact the police in the event of an emergency. After two calls and a trip to the D.C. police station, their ultimate answer was: "Shouldn't the alarm company know that already?" (I had the same question, actually...) After failing to get the system to work using the emailed trouble shooting instructions, we had about two weeks of back and forth phone calls between my husband and the alarm company. They didn't always answer their phone and weren't available on weekends. My husband was furloughed at the time, so he was at home. He was extremely, extremely frustrated at the inability to reach the company through the general number during normal business hours - and I was only home on weekends when they weren't available. I don't understand why it was so hard to connect with them - and you couldn't call them unless you were at home with the system so they could give instructions - so it didn't work for me to call them from my office. Ultimately, we returned the system very frustrated. I read many reviews of satisfied customers and wished that we could have been among them. I liked the concept of an easy to install system - and their online instructions were very clear. If it would have worked, we would have been happy. But because it didn't work, and their follow up service was so poorly executed, I would not recommend them to a friend. They also never refunded all of the money - there is still an outstanding charge of $14.99 - I'm not sure what it was for, because we were supposed to get the first two months of monitoring we paid (which is $14.99 per month). And from the review above, you can see that we never achieved monitoring status! But I'm not even going to bother calling them for a refund, because I am assuming I won't be able to reach someone on their general phone line. I guess I could call AmEx to dispute the charge, but at this point, I think I'm done with SimpliSafe.

In addition, we recommend that you contact your local police in regard to permitting so you can best acquaint yourself with their policies, which may include false alarm fines or new changes to their permitting requirements. Great initial contact. I'd researched them for a while and when the Angie's list deal came along, the timing and price were right. I purchased the kit here, and then additional items on their website. They combined into one order saving on shipping and the hassle. I was very happy about that. Installation went smoothly, it really is easy for a self install. My only complaint is that my county requires alarm systems to be registered. I have had ongoing communication issues with Simplisafe and the Monitoring company about who is responsible for the registration and where to send in the forms. Without registration being done properly, police will not be dispatched. Be sure to research ahead of time and know what is required in your community. I am confident once it all gets sorted out, this will be a great service. I would like to see a more updated keypad with backlit numbers but overall, no complaints.

It was so easy and I am absolutely thrilled. My husbands travels leave me home alone and it gives me peace of mind. If we move we can take the system with you. It comes in the mail, you remove 2 pieces of tape. You stick it to the wall and you are done.

Super easy to setup. Didn't take 15 mins, maybe 1 solid hour. Programming was easy for me (tech savvy). Had one minor glitch during setup, where I had to pull batteries out of central unit, to reset it. Other than that... great alarm system, great price. Signed up for the $25/mo plan, for full monitoring. Has been very reliable. Just be sure you order all the sensors you need to have a strong perimeter protection. I've gone back and bought more sensors directly from SimpliSafe and the system is truly plug and play easy. Expand as you need, when you need it. Strongly recommend this system to homeowners, renters, students, etc.

This would be an A review if they were available on Saturdays to help customers with installation requests OR at least made it very clear that they are not. I was unable to finish last Friday on installing a system in a home I am buying in another city. I made a special trip back (2.5 hours each way) on Saturday to finish and needed questions answered to finish installation. No luck - not open. This is unacceptable for an internet-based company that requires consumer installation. (And I do not yet have internet service in the new house.) Other not so big issues: the key did not work in my Mac, all of the entry points fell off the woodwork after installation and I had to go back and screw in (adhesive doesn't hold well on old painted wood.) Again, if I had known that this might be the case, I would have screwed in mounts to begin with. In addition, there are long wait times when you call as an existing customer. I hope that this improves.

My son ordered it for me and indicated the items should be delivered to a different address than the billing address on file. The package was sent to the wrong location. I contacted Simpli Safe and they gave me a label to ship the package to the correct location. 2 months were to be included in the deal but I received a bill for the 1st month of service. I'm working with them now on the service fee.

I have researched alarm systems for a long time before deciding who I would buy from. I wanted to stay away from ADT and Brinks known for old wired systems and long contracts. I looked into Front Point and Life Shield Security for more affordable wireless technology. My concern with both was that they needed to run a credit inquiry to buy their system, but worst one needed to sign up a contract for a minimum of three years and their lowest monthly monitoring systems started at $35.99 with fire protection. Simplisafe's monitoring system with fire protection start at $14.99. I pay $19.99 to also get SMS alerts. I bought the system and set it up myself. My base did not work properly and got the replacement cellular card. I have had issues with the stickers on wall and one door, which is weird because the stickers worked well in the other doors and walls. However, it is so easy to screw and then I changed my mind of where to place those two sensor, so it worked fine in the end. I think I needed a smaller system, so I will return the extra equipment I purchased. I really, really, really like the fact that I don't have a contract and their monitoring systems are very competitive. The only thing that may bother some people is their customer service. It is my theory that they pass the saving to us because they don't have a large sales force, I had to wait to call back on a regular work day and time to talk to a salesperson. Other alarm systems have sales people 24/7. ( I am ok paying less and wait to talk to sales people if needed) Also, you don't immediately get a response when you call to customer service, you may have to wait. t varies, but it can take five minutes or more. Once you talk to them, they are very helpful. For example, when the cell card in my tower didn't work after a LONG process of troubleshooting, I got the cell card mailed overnight and they gave me extra free days of monitoring. Also, when I told them that some of my stickers were not working, they also mail me extra ones. Their monitoring system is great, I got a text in my personal cellphone when my sensor detected movement in my home and they called my work cell phone right after. That time my dog set off the alarm and it was entirely my fault. The good news is that after Simplisafe notified the cops, they called the secondary people in my profile, my husband picked up the call and was able to call off the cops from coming to my home. So, my only concern was that they didn't call the other phone number in my notification contact list (You can only have two numbers), which was my personal cell phone (the one I happened to have with me that night) When I told the lady from SimpliSafe why she didn't call my personal cell phone before calling the cops, she abruptly said "I did," so maybe my cellphone didn't register the call because there was no missed call in my log. (weird) Although, one can easily change online profile preferences of what numbers to call before calling the cops, I think their monitoring could be much better if they have the option of allowing us to have two different phone contacts for "Away" and "Home" mode. Regardless, great system and I do recommend them.

The Angie's List instructions for this "big deal" were confusing. Unlike most big deals, this one works more like a coupon as the dealer doesn't contact you to schedule service. I was unable to use the dealer's web site to submit my order. However, I was able to contact them by telephone and the soon got me straightened out. The alarm sensors come with adhesive pads for mounting and the installation is very simple. I would recommend the SimpliSafe alarm system to others.

The worst! I gave the system a month and a half and decided to return the entire thing. During the month and a half they had to swap out my base station and my siren. Also, almost every day the base station would lose its connection requiring me to call the company and go through resetting the base station. They always seemed to blame it on the location of where I placed my base station. They offer a 60 day return policy. A week after I returned the system, I still didnt have a credit on my credit card. I called customer support (half hour wait to speak with someone) and he said they didn't process my credit card because my card had expired (you would think they would call). I gave them the new expiration date and the person told me that he was processing it immidiatley. That was a week ago, still no credit. I called again today (another half hour to get a live person)and they again said they never processed because my card expired. I once again gave them the same information. They said it would be processed today. I will see. I have since installed FrontPoint Security and it has worked flawlessly from the moment I installed it. They are more expensive but I guess it is true that you get what you pay for.

This was my second alarm system purchased from Simplisafe. I was previously with Protection1 for 17 years and though they provided great service, they did it for a very expensive price. With Simplisafe, I'm paying 1/3 the price of Protection1, but getting far more capabilities. Upon cancelling my service with Protection1, they called and offered a price that was about 50% off and they were still more expensive and offering far less than what I'm getting now. Coincidentally, I had ordered a 2nd alarm system for my parents and then I saw the Big Deal offered for $199. Even though I received the other alarm 3 weeks prior (still sitting in the box), Simplisafe gave me a full refund, paid for return shipping, and no questions asked. Great company to deal with. I love with my Simplisafe alarm I'm able to get text updates on the status of my alarm, which in turn helps me keep track of my family's coming and going. Another unexpected perk was getting a text message letting me know the power in my house went out and when it came back on. Of course, there's a battery backup built-in, so I knew my alarm was still working regardless. I spent hours reading reviews on the many different national companies and the different technologies/implementations available. I couldn't believe how expensive everyone else was and the long-term contracts all of them required. There were also the hundreds of horrible reviews for the major brands as well. In the end, they all failed to compare to Simplisafe and the ease of doing business with them. I also love how quickly they respond to questions in their user forums. I highly recommend the company and the products. The one thing I wish they'd upgrade on their control panel is putting back-lit keys on it.

No work provided. I changed my mind after I ordered this product. I contacted Angie's List to cancel the order and process the refund on 10/1/13. Somehow the Simplisafe shipment of equipment just arrived today (10/12/13) I still do not want to use the product and would need instruction on how to return the product. Thank you.

Extremely easy system to use and install - set up takes under 15 minutes for a small house like mine. The monitoring center is really quick with their responses and the customer service people are very helpful. My only gripe is the customer service line is mostly only available M-F (but they plan to increase staffing)

Everything went smoothly. Overall this is an excellent product and service for the cost. My only suggestion is to improve self adhesive on the door contact. (self adhesive on one of the parts did not adhere too well...I have to adjust it every now and then because it loosens.)
Description of Work: SimpliSafe Web Site was thorough and the customer service call in was helpful in answering all my questions. The system was easy to self install and the service has been very responsive.

Simplisafe is great company and product. I follow thier posts on google+ and all three information they offer. I know have 4 sets of security systems from simpli safe and I don't know what I would do without it.

I love that the products are easy to install and don't require any wiring. I also like how flexible the products are. As far as custom support, though, I hate that Simplisafe is only really open during business hours, and not on weekends. I've had issues in setting up components and it would have been helpful to be able to call Simplisafe over a weekend. Others have mentioned, but I agree, the ability to add video monitoring will also be super helpful. The products are overall pretty good, had a few issues with false alarms being sent for reasons I still haven't been able to determine, but it appears to be gone on my end. If nothing else, the flexibiltiy and ease of use makes simplisafe worth it. Not having a contract is also really nice.
Description of Work: Bought an Angie's List deal for Alarm System, then bought additional products to expand my system.

Fast contact from the representative, answered all my questions. I decided to return the system, I was provided a shipping label the same day. Angie's List followed up a few days later to process the refund. Good customer service experience even though I didn't use the system.
