We hired Michael Hasbrouck (MH) to replace a universal boiler and water heating system at our rental property at 95-5 Harbor Ave. Nashua NH 03060. We have a husband and wife as tenants who have a 2 year old child and the woman is pregnant. MH gave us an invoice of the work to be done but did not have a contract for us to sign upon first meeting. He told us he was completely licensed to the do the work and that he had done numerous jobs similar. On Monday 2/13/12 we paid him a cashier's check for $5600 (receipt attached) with a balance of $500.00 to paid on completion of job. He told us the replacement of old boiler with new unit would be finished no later than Wednesday 2/15/12. On Wednesday he removed old boiler and hung new unit on wall. He stated that he needed a part to finish the job and he would finish on Thursday. At this time heat and hot water was disconnected and he left the job. Between Thursday and Saturday morning he cut off complete communication. He would not answer our phone calls or texts and we could not leave messages on his phone as his mailbox was full. He never told us how much he paid for the new unit nor did he send us a receipt. Our tenants thinking he arrived at the property to finish the job let him on Saturday 2/18/12. He did not do a thing except to remove some miscellaneous tools not saying a thing to the tenants. We then received a text message from him on Saturday 2/18 stating a refund was sent in the mail. He did not state how much the refund was for or where it was sent or why he cut off communication and decided not to finish the job. We received no such refund to date. He left our tenants without heat and hot water for 5 days without any sort of notification the status of when or if he would finish the job. We had no other choice but to bring in another company to finish / correct his job. The new company - Heritage Plumbing needed to do many repairs to the work MH had done as they stated much of the work he performed was illegal and would not pass code through plumbing inspection. (We have photos of MH's work) We paid Heritage $5000.00 to repair his mistakes and properly reinstall and connect the new boiler.
