I bought a new gas stove that required moving the gas connection coming out of the wall. I knew that the reinforced flexible pipe leading through the walls to the stove was produced by Gastite. I researched the product and determined a solution that would work. I called the local Gastite authorized distributor who referred me to McCaffrey Mechanical. When I called Steve McCaffrey he said he would call me the next day at 8 AM. He didn?t. This should have been a warning. I called him again, and he made an appointment with me a few days later. Mike (I believe) arrived essentially on time. We discussed the problem and I showed him the predicament and the solution I?d found. Mike agreed that it was a good solution and took the information he needed to order the required part (I printed the catalog detail for him and told him where he could order it). He then left saying that they would order the part and call to schedule installation. Minutes later Mike returned saying that Steve McCaffrey wanted a deposit of $100 against the installation fee and the part. This seemed reasonable, so I wrote a check. A week or so later, I called McCaffrey to find out what was going on. The part hadn?t arrived Steve told me. I called a few days later and Steven then told me he hadn?t ordered the part from the distributor I told Mike about; rather he ordered it (or something else ? I?m not sure) from a distributor in Texas that as it turns out couldn?t provide the part, but could provide something vaguely similar that could be retrofitted. I wasn?t psyched about that idea, and reminded Steve about the two local distributors that could order the part. Steve said ?OK. They open at 7, I?ll call them, order the part and call you at exactly 8 AM.? I?d heard the 8 AM promise before, but was cautiously optimistic. Days passed. I heard nothing. I called and left messages. I heard nothing. Today I called and Steve actually answered. When he realized it was me, he declared that he couldn?t hear me and hung up. I called him back immediately and regularly throughout the day and Steve never answered and hasn?t returned my message. Steve McCaffrey of McCaffrey Mechanical is remarkably unprofessional. He will tell you that he?ll call you at 8 AM. He most certainly will not. If you call him, he?ll apologize and tell you he?ll call another specified time. He almost certainly will not. Then he will go completely dark. He won?t answer the phone; won?t return calls on his voice mail. His staff (or the one I met) seemed knowledgeable, but the frustration is not worth the effort. If you want reliable service with a professional attitude , save yourself the time, money and frustration and DO NOT call McCaffrey Mechanical of Quincy MA.
Description of Work: Despite my best efforts, McCaffrey Mechanical never performed services for me. The representative (Mike I think) looked over what needed to be done; stated that there wasn't a whole lot to it; and took my money as a deposit against a component they needed to order. Steve McCaffrey of McCaffrey Mechanical never ordered the part from the authorized supplier I referred him to, and after several calls and excuses from Steve over a three week period I've moved on.
