Stumpy's Tree Service Inc

After scheduling a free estimate site visit with Stumpy's office, Jeff inspected the work we needed done, gave me some honest advice, and offered a very reasonably priced written proposal which included a detailed diagram of the work and a 5% Angie's List discount. Stumpy's crew arrived punctually on the day the office said they would, shoveled through deep snow set up the complicated positioning of machinery which included a 100 foot crane, cut each tree at least twice using the crane to stabilize each cut, using the crane ran the upper portion of each tree through the chipper bucking all necessary brances, placed the bottom portion of each tree onto a logging truck with the crane, cleared a large pile of brush and a previously fallen tree cut into logs, and cleaned up the area where the chipper operated. Stumpy's crew were polite and professional. They took great care not to damage any property in a very tight work area. I would call their work outstanding.

The day of the service, the crew arrived promptly. They worked efficiently and were very careful of our property. We had 2 cancellations due to weather (Hurricane Sandy was the first). Contacting them was occasionally frustrating. Overall the quality of the work was excellent, the price was very reasonable (about half the cost of the other estimates we received).

Last May, we called Stumpy's for an estimate on tree work in our back yard. When Mark came, he listened attentively to what we had in mind and was very helpful in recommending which trees should go and which should stay. Ultimately, the estimate included removal of 4 oak trees ranging from 14" to 22" diameter, removal of three 4" to 7" maples, pruning a large oak, removing an old pile of accumulated branches, limbs and storm debris, taking out a number of junk shrubs and pruning others. Mark noted that there was no access for large equipment into the back yard so we braced ourselves as he prepared the estimate. Since we were not in a rush, Mark applied a discount if we would wait to have the job done in the winter. We were more than pleasantly surprised to see they would do all this for $3,600. Stumpy's called about a month ago to set up a date. They were very accommodating when we asked them a few days later to change to a day more convenient for us. At the appointed time, the trucks arrived with a crew of five. I walked out to meet them and review the work and found them to be friendly and ready to get the job done. Mark arrived soon and made sure all was in order, pointed out Jason, the foreman, if we had questions or concerns and gave us his own cell number if anything should come up. The first order of business was to lay down protective plywood sheets over the front and side lawn so they could bring the chipper as close to the work site as possible. One of our concerns was possible damage to about a dozen large rhododendrons located near the base of the four large trees to be removed. Mark had noted on the original estimate that some damage might be unavoidable. While there was a part of me that did not want to watch, I could not help doing so. The skill and professionalism of people 60 feet off the ground with chainsaws while others on the ground choreographed the process was amazing. Their surgical precision avoiding collateral damage was evident at all times. I was even impressed that they minimized the noise of the chipper by having it run only when used. (I have seen other companies doing jobs in the neighborhood who have let the machines idle all day.) Clean up after the work (only 6 1/2 hours for the entire job) was as high a priority for them as the work itself. The entire area they worked in and around was cleaner than when they arrived. We had heard good things about Stumpy's from friends and neighbors and I had checked Angie's as well before calling them. I will use them exclusively in the future and not hesitate to recommend them to others.

Their tree work was extremely professional.

I called Stumpy's in November to schedule to have trees removed that were wrapped in the power lines and leaning over the chimney and house. They came and did an estimate and explained with Hurricane Sandy they were busy and if I wait until the winter it would be cheaper. They never called to follow-up. In late December I called and scheduled. They showed up half an hour early. I was on my way to work. I was nervous that they may not get everything right. When I got home and saw they did everything as promised, I was pleased.

Stumpy sent out a very professional salesman who arrived right on time. Later he told me that he wanted to bring the owner back with him on December 11,to look at the job. About the 18th of December I called and was told that they had not been out but would be.Later when I called again I was asked to call back. I said that if they were interested, I thought at this point they should call ME back. I never heard from them. I was surprised as my initial impression had been so positive. I think they should at least had the courtesy to call me back and tell me they weren't interested.

They were highly rated by Angies List. They were good so we would recommend them.

We were so pleased with the exemplary service received from Stumpy's, from the first phone call to request an estimate to the clean-up of the last bit of sawdust. A huge limb fell from one of our elderly hemlocks, hitting and breaking off a limb of an adjoining maple. Both limbs fell into my neighbor's yard, thankfully doing little damage. We received several estimates - I won't go into detail about attitude, padding the job with unnecessary work, the estimators who appeared puzzled about how to do the the work, or showed up hours late or not at all. Here's how it went with Stumpy's: - I left a message at the office - the call was returned within a half-hour. - Martin, the estimator, arrived on the dot of 2pm, the appointed time. He spent time explaining the best way to do the work, assuring me that there would be no damage from equipment or when accessing my neighbor's yard. The written estimate spelled out exactly the work to be done, and included a detailed drawing of our house, the yard and trees. - The work was scheduled within a day, the crew of three arrived promptly at noon. They were all very pleasant, professional, and very hard-working. It was a pleasure to watch them work together. - Clean up was amazing. Stumpy's has been in business for many years and it shows. We have more tree work to be done and you can be sure Stumpy's will be our choice.

The workers showed up on time (in the snow). They protected the lawn from the weight of truck. The tree work was performed as described, in a timely manner, at the price quoted. Work area was cleaned of all debris. Would definitely hire again for future tree work.

It all went very well. They came when they said they would. Their estimate was reasonable. The work was done well and rapidly. I can't recommend this company enough.

Jeff from Stumpy's came out to the house and gave us a estimate. The crew came to do the work within a few days and worked quickly and efficiently. They cleaned up all the remaining debris from the trees. Very satisfied with their work and would use the again.

On monday ( oct 22nd)i called them to confirm and make sure they removed hanging branches that had also fallen on the adjacent tree. They were very concerned that the estimate would not include any additional work --- i assured him that i wasnt suggesting additional work. This struck me as strange because removal of a fallen limb usually means the branches attached to the limb as well but I didn't give it any further thought. Because the tree was in the back and non visible from the house, I assumed the work had been completed. Now Mon, the 29th, in the middle of the worst hurricane we've had in awhile I notice that my backyard is flooding. I went outside to check it out only to discover the limb remained where it had fallen, blocking the brook. I called the company Immediately. it took the owner 10 minutes to recall who I was. Basically, he claimed, the job fell through the cracks,I.e., he forgot and now he wouldn't get to it until who knows when - perhaps when it dries up. It's worth noting that as a direct result of his forgetting about a client and the job he agreed to perform, my backyard is now a pond resulting from water backing up because of the tree limb - it will probably not dry up for weeks. I was upset and was suprised at his cavalier attitude...then the phone went dead. I called him back and he admitted to hanging up the phone to "take another call". This is not what i would call professionalism by someone in the service business.

Arrived on time, trimmed trees with surgical precision, cleaned up mess. Very professional job, would definitely use them again.

Jeff came out to property and we discussed the various trees/areas that needed work. He listened and took notes every step of the way and gave recommendations, where appropriate. Crew showed up on time and worked most of the day. Trees/areas looks great. You wouldn't even know they were here (yard thoroughly cleaned up). Also received follow up call to confirm that work was done to my satisfaction Would recommend without hesitation. Great experience start to finish.

I called Stumpy's and set up an appointment to have the jobs evaluated and priced. The woman at the office was very pleasant and understood the situation with the rotted tree. She set up an appointment at the earliest time available. I met Mark at the first site and he did a comprehensive evaluation of the site, making notes, measurements and drawings. He quoted me a price at that time, which I thought to be quite fair. We went to the second site and he did the same. I gave him the go ahead to do both jobs and he said he would get back to me as soon as he had a definite time. The first job was done three days later, only because the weekend prevented it being done sooner. The second (elective) job was done by the end of the week. At both sites the crew was incredible. Not only was the job done to perfection, but they cleaned EVERYTHING up! Both job sites also involved seeking some cooperation from the neighbors because of the size, location and height of the trees. Mark did a superb job in coordinating the work and keeping me informed of all of the details. I highly recommend Stumpy's for price, service, performance and professionalism.

Absolutely professional all the way around...I found them on Angie's list, then found out two colleagues had used them as well, and both were highly recommending them also. Jeff was very prompt for our appointment for the estimate and I could tell he was very thorough in his analysis before giving me a quote. I got 5 estimates, and although Stumpy's was not the cheapest, I got the impression they were very professional and would do a thorough job. I wasn't wrong. They were perfectly ontime, did an extremely great job -- large trees, small trees, scrub brush--and you wouldn't know it was ever there when they left. I am in real estate, and I will certainly be recommending Stumpy's to my clients.

Stumpy's came in and the tree was gone and the stump ground within 3 1/2 hours and the yard was, if anything, cleaner than it had been before they started. No damage to other existing trees or vegetation. A very impressive performance under difficult conditions (major branches out over the high tension power lines, little room to maneuver in the yard, difficult access.

They came on time, set up quickly and efficiently. The tree to come down was very close to my house and my neighbors fence, complicated further by overhead wires. They did a good job, causing no harm. They worked quickly, and the price matched the estimate, there were no surprises

Jeff, the man that came out to quote the job, was a true professional. I told him what I needed and he was able to give me not only advice but also a quote on the spot. The quote was very reasonable for the amount of work I had done. He also quoted my across the street neighbor at the same time for trim work to be done on his property. Stumpy's arrived on time on the date they were expected. They took great measure to ensure that my lawn and septic system were not damaged during the process, much to my delight. They also removed several small growths from a tree that I wished to hang a birdhouse from at no charge. Since my next door neighbor would not allow me access to his driveway to remove a tree in the rear of my house, Stumpy's simply used a huge crane and averted what could have been yet another problem with the "Neighbor from H***". These men have all the necessary equipment at their disposal regardless of what work needs to be done. As the crew arrived in the morning they wished each other good morning, there wa no use of profanity, and each man had their own separate areas of expertise. I did not note one idle moment from the men. No slackers were observed. The clean-up was excellent. There was nothing at all for me to do after they left. All in all, four houses at the end of my street used Stumpy's Tree Service in the course of ten days. That fact alone should speak volumns for a company that knows not only how to run their business well, but also that importance of "word of mouth" advertisement which far exceeds any yellow pages information.

I called and made an appointment for an estimate. Chris came exactly when he said he would, and wrote up an estimate on the spot. Then he said he had guys working nearby, so he could actually do it that same afternoon! His price was very reasonable, and I was thrilled that he could do it so fast. They came within an hour or two, and had the tree down in no time. They chipped all the branches and trunk, and totally cleaned up the yard and street afterwards. Nothing in the yard was damaged at all, even a hydrangea bush that was right in front of the tree! It was totally professional and expedient.

I would recommend Stumpy's to anyone. The price was the best of all the estimates we got. The guy who came for the estimate was super nice, they were accomodating to schedule us in quickly. The other guys who pruned the trees did a great job, listened to what we wanted, and didn't try to do more or less. They asked us how we liked it after they were done, in case we wanted to change anything. Also, they were impeccible with cleanup! Definitely will be calling them again.

Overall, it was an extremely positive experience. They did an incredible job, from start to finish. Prior to doing the job, they sent someone out to give an estimate. They called the day before the appointment to confirm; the man who came was here on time. He was very attentive, listened to our questions and concerns, gave us his professional opinion as to which trees to cut down and why, and was very thorough in his explanations. When they came to do the work, they were again very pleasant and professional. They showed up on time and once here, they worked nonstop through the heat and humidity till the job was done. They cleaned up so well - if it had not been for some missing trees in the yard, you would not have known they were here. We will DEFINITELY have them come back at some point to take down more trees, and we highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for someone to do tree work

They have a more competitive proposal. Compared to the other service provider they weren't on time and it took them a while to get out here. Their price is just a few dollars of the other quote. But the quality of their work is fine.
