My only regret is that John's initial view of my place was not done as an in person visit with both of us discussing the project. His initial estimate that included a retaining wall and steps was higher than others and I didn't pursue. Judging from his quality of workmanship, I would have preferred to work with him, but a signed contract prevented this. I look forward to working with John's Landscaping going forward.
P.S. The entire amount of their bill ($5,200.00) was paid in full before this review was posted. Not at all surprised by the company's response - this seems to be their usual way of responding to any negative feedback (either this customer doesn't exist or this was all fabricated). Well, we do exist and we have a very bad experience with this landscaping company. Don't make the same mistake we made.
"100% complete fabrication of the events. These people simply did not want to pay their bill for the work that they requested. I dealt personally with both (member name removed) and (member name removed) (her husband). Him more than her. He was an extremely rude and ignorant person. Spoke rudely to my office staff as well as my crew. They signed up for a spring clean up of the property and then a new lawn installation. The clean up was completed first and the lawn installation soon after. Everything was executed professionally and they seemed to be happy. They requested an additional area, be weeded and we sent our operations manager by to look at the area. They sent him away, saying that he did not have an appt. We then coordinated a time to do review the weeding and scheduled a time to do this for them, which we did to 100 % satisfaction. The next round of emails from (member name removed) were concerning the new lawn. This was with in 2 weeks of a new hydroseed lawn. I explained how it takes time for germination etc and that he did not had a sod (instant) lawn installed. I explained how growing a new lawn is a process. The same explanations that were given before we did the installation. (member name removed) started complaining and talked about refusing to pay etc, wanted a discount etc. I refused and told him that email communication was getting ridiculous and that we should meet on-sight to review the lawn and discuss in person. This meeting was scheduled for Monday June 16th. On Saturday June 14th I received the following from them: From: (member name removed) <[email removed]> Date: Saturday, June 14, 2014 12:58 PM To: Toni Pascuccio Cc: John Tighe , [member name removed] Subject: Re: [member info removed] - Returned your call Hi John, We would like to cancel our appointment on Monday morning and cancel any and all services with John's Landscaping. Please send us your final bill with what you consider a fair amount in this situation. Please also provide the credit card payment instructions, as it will allow us to pay the bill sooner. Thanks, (member name removed) I was not surprised by this because, I know that there would have been nothing to be addressed at that meeting as the lawn had come in and looked great as it continues to do so. In that email above, they ask for a "fair amount", which to my response was the amount estimated for the work requested. They have since paid in full the $5250.00 that was estimated. I have over 20 emails with them directly. They had the point person to deal with, they were not dealing with multiple people. Our operations manger was the only person who met with them other than myself. I honestly believe that they just did not want to pay their bill. They had mentioned on the original estimate that they had limited resources but wanted to get an estimate for the work. They kept asking for a discount, paying only 1/2 etc etc, all of which made no sense since everything was completed at their request and everything looked great. To re-iterate - the work was pre-estimated, accepted, scheduled and completed in an efficient manner and within the quoted price. They were happy with the work once completed, please see from the email below: Hi John, Thanks for working on the lawn the other day...... ...Thank you very much. (member name removed), (member name removed). Communication with them was flawless, as noted in emails below: Hi John, Thanks for your prompt response.... Thanks, (member name removed) It is unfortunate that Angie's List does not research these reviews BEFORE allowing them to be posted. If any member has any questions on thei review or would like to discuss with me directly I can be reached at [email protected]. Thank you, John Tighe President John's Landscape Service Inc."
"I am pleased that this member was pleased and happy with our work. The $125 for the cut was because it had not been cut in over a month. We do not typically do "on call" mowings on a regular basis which is why we offered our weekly plan. Weather and conditions permitting we are able togo to an every other week service, but not in the spring growing months. Again we are happy that this client was pleased with the services that we provided."
He was personable and explained what he would do and we had a detailed estimate via email by the afternoon. His estimate was a bit higher than others we received so I didn't hire their services. I was very impressed by the promptness in answering my contact with them and in providing an estimate. Perhaps they could add something on the website asking if the homeowner would like to be present when the estimate is made.
"Angie's Members, There is always an option to meet with me prior to estimating if desired. For the more routine estimates we often suggest us taking a quick look and then we provide some detailed budget numbers for the project and if that looks good we schedule a meeting to review and answer any final questions before the project begins. This is the most efficient way for everyone involved. What I hear most is "I really don't know how much this will cost". So we are able to provide budget numbers for the client to determine if this project is something that they would like to proceed with."
"This is an absolute RIDICULOUS review something that ANGIE' should be ashamed to allow on its site. There is not one once of truth to it. I can not even confirm if this person was a client 6 years ago without pulling files that are retired after 3 years. What I can say is that everything that was written is 100% false. Why Angie's List allows a self admitted 6 year old review (either positive or negative) is of question to me and the reliability of the information listed on this site."
"Members --- We have never done work at this address. It must be a different company. We will ask Angie's List to remove this posting. If a client requests a meeting, we meet. If a client requests to be called prior to work being done, we call."
Update: John's guys just finished. It is absolutely amazing. They did a terrific job and the yard has never looked better. I wish there was a way to post a couple photos of the finished project. I'm very pleased and will be calling them for my spring projects, too!
I am still not sure how I am to pay for service, I hope I will be sent a bill. This lawn service is to be done weekly so billing needs to be timely if not I will not keep the service regardless of how well they do the job. I will not be confused by billing techniques or lack there of where another service is being performed when the bill for the last service has not arrived, and the actual workers did not speak English well enough for them or me to understand each other. I do not speak any language other than English.
Booking service went strange as well, I call after reading reviews here at Angie's List and was told someone would be in contact with me. A week and a half later I get a call telling me the price for summer mowing and winter and spring clean ups. When asked, the lady on the phone told me someone had been out ON my property (without me knowing it) and estimated the job.
Be advised if you wish to hire this company they may come to your home and go on your property without telling you first when you call to inquire about service.
After the first visit John's Landscaping Service has done a reasonable job at what I feel a fair price, I hope the billing goes smoothly, the language barrier with workers and not getting a bill when service was rendered has me concerned but so far so good as they did good work!
"(removed member name), I am a little confused by this review. It sounds as if your asking questions to the general public that they can't answer for you. We have not received any of these questions into our office. These questions are simply answered. Billing is done monthly - our crews are busy and we don't want them collecting checks and driving around with them all day. This is the simplest and most efficient manner for all involved. Your initial request for an estimate came in on a Friday and you had the estimate by the next week. Reasonable time frame give we do not do estimates on the weekend. Our office called and email to let you know that I would be taking a look at the property to provide you a cost estimate. This is the same process when you called for your mother in-laws property a few days later. We let all of our potential clients know that this is the process for our general maintenance estimating unless a meeting is requested. Our crew chiefs speak english. There is always someone onsite who can communicate clearly with you. I think you may have been confusing the employee when asking for a bill. He may have thought that you were looking to pay him "on the side" instead of the billing coming through the office which is normally done. Anyways, I am happy your pleased with the service. We look forward to continuing business with you. In the future when you have a question, just ask us this way you won't be left wondering. We have a full time office manager and my cell is 347-236-0531 and direct email is [email protected]. I am pretty sure you will get your questions answered better from me than any Angie's Members!"
