Description of Work: Fred came out to spec out a radon mitigation system for our house. Our radon readings had been high. He immediately spotted holes in the basement slab floor where our old furnace used to be (probably were for drainage if the furnace ever leaked), and he recommended we close those up and retest before installing a system. His recommendation did the trick, and we did not need their services. Fred also walked all around the house and discussed various options for a system if we were to need one, and he very helpfully explained restrictions and how best to minimize the impact on the inside and outside of the house. I had contacted another highly rated company on Angie's List. They were very nice, but they did the estimate over the phone looking at satellite images. I don't know if they would have stopped installation if they saw what Radon Diagnostics saw, but I think Fred's on-site inspection was invaluable.

Description of Work: Wonderful contractor. I wish every building trades contractor were as good as these guys. The whole process from initial site inspection to final signoff was easy, and they got it right the first time. The radon level tested at 1.0 pCi/L after their work, well below the EPA limit.

Description of Work: Radon Diagnostic Services installed our radon remediation system in 2011, and that went fine. However, after 3 years the fan had become exceedingly noisy, and I contacted Radon Diagnostic Services. They initially said that the fan was under warranty, and they would be able to replace it. However, they didn't show up for our first appointment to replace the fan. With bad winter weather that day, I can understand that they couldn't make the appointment, however they didn't contact me to let me know or reschedule. After leaving several phone messages, I did finally connect with RDS. Then they told me that the fan actually wasn't under warranty. I assumed this was an honest mistake, and set up another appointment. After further missed appointments and difficulties in getting them to call back, I went with a different company. I would not work with this provider in the future.

Description of Work: The woman answering the phone was lovely. The actual work they do sounded good to me. I needed a quick consult to see if I need mitigation since we had already had the test, which she said was by a reputable group they like. |She promised she'd call back but never did. My guess is that she did not think from what I told her--we had an ok result, but I had concerns--that my project needed radon mitigation. However, I would have been much happier and much more reassured to have been allowed to speak with one of the actual practitioners.

Description of Work: Excellent work! They showed right on time; were very meticulous in their work; extremely neat and cleaned up. They fully explained everything they would do; did what they said; and then explained what I needed to do as the homeowner. This was an overall excellent experience. RDS set up an appointment very easily and Fred spent a good 90 minutes surveying the property and coming up with different options. The quote we received was a good $400-$500 less than one of their competitors. The team showed up on time and was very professional and Fred was able to stop by on several occasions to survey the job. Although I would highly recommend this company I have two minor complaints. The first is that they could have done a better job cleaning up after the job was complete. I don't think this is the norm as they seemed to have some miscommunication as to which of their teams was going to perform this task. My second complaint is that I had some follow up questions that Richard at the main number was very slow to get back to me on. The key member of this organization is Fred and I would suggest getting Fred's cell phone number from the start as he is the one who can get you the answers you are looking for. This was an overall excellent experience and I would recommend this company to anyone looking for radon mitigation.

The builder had installed the radon pipe from ground through the roof. Fred came over and gave me an estimate. He was very professional, explained all that needs to be done. He agreed to come over over the next day, installed the fan, monometer, and electrical work. Follow on Radon test package was included in the price.

They were great to work with on the installation...easy, helpful, pleasant. Now I've changed my mind on the placement of the exhaust pipe because of aesthetics (my choice in the first place so my fault!), and the owner of the company has been extremely helpful. He has had multiple conversations with me, both of us trying to come up with a solution that won't cost too much. This is just reinforcement that it's a great company!

The house has an original foundation (1920) and an addition foundation (1983) so it is like having 2 basements. Radon testing showed readings of 9 and 13 pCi/L. Previous contractor said 3 suction pipes would be required to achieve a 2 pCi/L target at a cost of $1700. Radon Diagnostic Services said while 3 suction holes might be required, they recommended a incremental approach. $1050 for a complete system with one suction pipe for $1050. If necessary a second suction pipe for $200 and if a third required at $100. The workers arrived on time and completed the 1 suction pipe complete system in about 5 hours. Radon test kits after 2 weeks installation showed .9 pCi/L for both basements versus the EPA standard of 4 pCi/L. Continous testing since then has been 1.0 pCi/L. The Radon Diagnostic Services incremental approach yielded much better result than expected and a much better price than previously proposed. Excellent company to work with!
