Initially, I had called one of Angie's List's top rated home inspectors who didn't have availability and referred me to Dan.  I was a little nervous initially, but the other provider's recommendation was very strong. 
Dan was terrific.  It was an incredibly hot day and the seller had some unsual requirements so Dan had to adjust his usual formula.  He took his time and did a very thorough inspection -- we were there for three hours and went through not only the condominium but all the common area mechanicals and deferred maintenance items, potential safety issues and the like.  By that evening we had a comprehensive report with many photos to record and remind us of the instances we discussed.
We learned a great deal through the inspection, and were able to itemize some key issues for the purchase and sale that we wanted resolved prior to purchase.  We also started our ownership of the unit with a comprehensive report on the common areas which we can use to develop a long term maintenance plan and budget for the building.
We highly recommend Still River Inspections and plan to use them again.

Extremely detailed inspection, scheduled only two days in advance.
Started before we arrived, and spent over 4 HOURS going over a 1200 sq ft house w/ a 1/4 acre of property from literally top to bottom and corner to corner.  Climbed into internal and external crawlspaces (complete with Tyvex suit), thoroughly inspected structure (including out-building), plumbing, fixtures, utilities, etc.  Moved paneled ceilings, tapped at wood in and around entire building to look for soft spots, and so much more!
Answered all of my questions completely, examined any items I questioned or pointed out, and provided excellent recommendations.  On top of all that, I had the complete 90 page inspection report, with tons of pictures,  before the noon the next day!  
Also performed a radon test which was included with inspection.
Readily available, prompt, detailed, quick turn around on the report, and very professional and friendly.  Would highly recommend!

Did an inspection for us as we'll as several for our family. The best we have had and well worth the cost. His report is your home manual for the next 10-15 years and would use Dan again.

Be prepared to be looking at your potential house for 4 hours and spotting every little thing.  Dan took us around the house and spotted every thing we needed to do in the next 5-10 years from the siding to the deck.  Then inside to look at electrical and flooring, heating, plumbing and everything else.

When I received the report it had everything laid out step by step with pictures and then a concise report at the end stating the major things that needed work and all the things that are potential safety issues.

Dan took time before, during and after the inspection to review everything in detail.  Dan took time to review the report(s) or answer questions even after he was paid and the inspection was complete.  We felt Dan was well educated on all aspects of a home.  If you are looking for someone who takes their time and provides exceptional feedback, I would highly recommend Still River Home Inspections.

We initially contacted a different home inspector company who I've used in the past, but due to scheduling the service could not be provided and they referred us to Dan. I was a little hesitant at first. Well Dan exceeded my expectation and then some. We initially planned to meet Dan at the home we were purchasing but due to the Watertown locked down from the marathon bombing we could not make the inspection. 
Without our presence, Dan did a full and very thorough inspection of the entire 1 family 1900 SQ ft home. He provided many pictures with a very detailed report. Even though Dan provided a comprehensive report, he offered to discuss it over the phone. I think we spent about an hour going over the report followed by additional call afterwords for advice. I couldn't ask for anything more as he help position us to give a reasonable list of items we wanted fixed prior to close.
Since the first exception went so well, we used Dan's consulting services to perform a pre-listing exception of our condo prior to placing on the market. Again he was very thorough pointing out many items that could come up in the buyer's inspection. After the buyer's inspection, we received a verbal summary of important items were found requiring repairs. Thanks to Dan, everything found in the full inspection was already told to us by Dan. What was even better, the full inspection missed some major items that Dan had informed us about.

Dan was prompt and professional.  He provided important details without nit-picking every last issue.  This gave us a good insight into the actual condition of the home.  The report was provided promptly and included photos of what was being discussed in each section of the report.

Dan was fantastic.  I showed up about 15 minutes before the scheduled time (by luck due to traffic) and he was already there, outside, taking pictures and examining the roof with his binoculars.  It was pouring rain that day, but we all had our umbrellas, and Dan did not rush to get inside out of the rain.  He was extremely thorough -- we combed over every inch from up high to down low outside, and then went inside through the basement and up the floors of the house.  He noted everything, took pictures, and took the time to explain each thing he found and to answer all of my followup questions.
When I first scheduled the inspection, I was a bit wary because the price Dan gave me (even with the free radon kit from Angie's List) is a bit higher than everywhere else.  However, I don't regret it at all -- Dan's detailed inspection, and the 80+ page inspection report I received the next day, were superb and worth every penny.  He was also great about a followup question I had via email after I received the report.  Great job -- thanks Dan!

The inspection went well and I was more than satisfied with Dan's service.  I had some questions a few days after the home inspection was completed and e-mailed them to Dan.  I was amazed at how quickly he responded.  Would absolutely recommend Dan to anyone.  To me, he went above and beyond!

Dan did a fantastic job.  He arrived early (on a Saturday) and had begun work before I arrived.  He was expertly thorough, patient, and took the time to explain everything slowly and clearly.  There was approximately one foot of snow on the ground, and it was roughly 35 degrees outside - but that did not inhibit Dan from performing a very thorough examination of the exterior of the house.  My Realtor was impressed and actually commented on how long he was outside in such cold weather!  Dan was very professional throughout the inspection and submitted his (100 pg) report exceptionally fast (next day I recall!) chock full of photos and comments.  SRHI was more expensive than other outfits, but Dan's sterling reviews spoke loudly and I am happy with my choice. I would use Dan and SRHI again.

Overall we were extremely pleased with the house inspection and Dan's service.  Dan reviewed every detail of the house, including very hard to reach and see areas.  He is very knowledgable and knows what to look for to make sure the house structure and infrastructure is sound so that as a buyer you are aware of any potential expenses (large or small) that you may have to face.

Dan provided an outstanding home inspection for a single-family house. I was able to schedule the inspection with only one day's notice, and in advance of a major storm. When I arrived at the house at the appointed time, Dan was already there inspecting the house from the street. He was exceptionally thorough and knowledgeable in all areas of the home. He was able to inspect and answer my many questions about the roof, the structure of the house, carpentry, plumbing, the electrical and HVAC systems and many other things. He found and crawled into every crawl space in the house, many of which I had no idea even existed. During the process, Dan discovered many small problems and a one or two huge issues that could easily have been overlooked in a less thorough inspection. He took extensive notes and photographs, and I received a comprehensive 85 page report detailing all of the many issues the morning after the inspection. At the end of the day I felt 100% confident that that all of the problems in the house had been identified. We thought the house was in pretty good condition when we made our offer to purchase; but Dan's efforts made it clear that there was much more work than we realized. Dan was a real life (and money) saver!
