The verbal quote from the owner Phil Schulz was for the first pine tree at $500 and for an additional $100 I could have the other tree removed. These trees were easy access from the street and the workers were exceptionally careful with an existing fence and gardens.
The problem was that when the work commenced, Mr. Schulz asked if I could give him a check then, as he had to leave. When I began writing the check, he advised me that I owed him $900. I said that this figure was not what was quoted. He said that I must have misunderstood. I am elderly and did not know just what to do at the time, since none of my male relatives were there at the time...so I paid the $900.
Subsequently, I have heard that bait and switch tactics are not new for Mr. Schulz. I have advised the local Counsels on Aging that this company is not to be recommended. I have also informed the BBB in Boston.
Acorn Tree has since merged with Olympic Tree. My advice is not to do business with these people, however, if you do, get a written estimate beforehand, but don't trust the owner.

Olympic Tree came to grind a stump. While doing that, they damaged my driveway and irrigation system. They were unresponsive to my calls and would not pay to repair the damage they caused. I filed a complaint with BBB but they did not respond to that either.

It went very well. They showed up promptly for the appointments, took time to walk through the property marking trees and were happy to come back just before the date when I was changing my mind on some trees. The work was carried out on time (over 2 days) and the workers were very friendly and hardworking. They also chipped a large pile of brush and branches that I had accumulated over several years when I asked them. My lawn did take some damage from the trucks, but I was warned and they did use the precautions they promised including laying plywood (so just something to be aware of). I have recommended them to friends and would use them again. I'm giving them a B only on price - as it was a lot of money and I did not do that much comparing. The other company I called said they would have to sub the crane work to Olympic anyway, so they suggested going with them. The small contractor (all by hand) got close on price, without being able to do the largest work.

We hired a contractor who subcontracted this work to Olympic. I was not home when work was done. We were not consulted about removing the extra trees, but I had given consent to "do what was necessary" to get the job done. I don't know if we paid too much. I did not get other estimates, as I have worked with the contractor before.

They took away all of the debris away, which was good. They did their work efficiently.

Overall, the experience was excellent. Phil was great to work with and was very patient with us as this was a major project. The work was done carefully and neatly and the cleanup was great.

THE WORK WAS FINE. THEY CHARGED ME $300 FOR 10-15 MINUTES' WORK (I WAS HOME WHEN THEY DID IT AND THE KIDS AND I WATCHED), AND I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO GET THEM TO TELL ME WHY. DESPITE BEING ABLE TO FIND MY HOUSE FINE, THE BILL WAS INCORRECTLY ADDRESSED, AND THE FIRST NOTICE I RECEIVED SAID TO 'PAY OR WE'LL SEND THIS TO A COLLECTION AGENCY.'
