"We did give a rough price over the phone to replace a owner furnished water heater and cooktop. We were to pickup a owner furnished water heater from Home Depot for this customer.Home Depot couldn't find the heater and it took a hour for them to locate it.When we got to the house it was more than just a simple swap out of the water heater and cooktop. The heater was located in a small utility room with the washer and dryer. The gas for the heater, dryer and cooktop was running around the wall catching each unit. The section for the cooktop was going through the wall with a flex line. The gas line had to be reconfigured and a section replaced. We removed the old cooktop. When we tried to install the new cooktop the opening was to small and the granite needed to be cut so we reinstalled the old one.The heater had to be installed in a pan with a drain line going to the outside of the house. To make that happen we had to build a small platform to raise the heater. The job was now up to code and safe.We charged the customer for the time and material which was for that job. After about a week later he called complaining about his bill and that the dryer door was hitting the gas line. The tech said there was no way that could be happening. We sent him out to check it.The customer failed to say that the dryer had been replaced and the door now swings out instead of opening down.We didn't confront him about it and reconfigured the gas line at no charge."
It went great. Dial One sent a man named David. He was extremely friendly and professional. He came over right away--the same day I called. He gave me a lot of tips. I enjoyed chatting with him. I even stood on the attic ladder to chat with him while he worked. I felt kind of bad because the attic was so incredibly hot. However, David worked very hard, despite the intense heat. He gave me a lot of tips on maintenance and care as he worked. He was very knowledgeable and explained the operation of plumbing fixtures. David actually accessed the attic three different times to ensure that everything possible was done to keep the pilot light from blowing out again. He also let me know that plumbing fixtures are not made as sturdy as they used to be, and that eventually most devices need to be replaced or repaired at some time. I truly appreciated the knowledge he shared with me.
The original bathtub drain was a mess. David stuck with the project and showed me what a poor job the contractor did when installing the tub. David explained what was wrong, and provided recommendations. Of course the cost of these repairs was more than I felt I could afford, but what does one do when a home wasn't built properly and needs repair? I decided to accept David's recommendations, and I'm glad that I did. He had to cut out a part of the sheet rock to access the piping underneath the tub. He even had to drive all the way back to the warehouse to get the parts he needed. He showed me the finished installation, and it was perfect. He worked until he got it the way he wanted. I must say David is a perfectionist.
The "B" rating for the price is not a complaint...it's a notice. Their prices are a little bit higher than some others, but well worth it.
Communication: the arrival time was, of course, approximate, since service technicians never know what they are going to encounter with earlier appointments. Even so, when Roland thought he might be late he called - not 10 minutes before, but an hour and a half before the estimated time. He called again to give a head's up when he was on his way. I didn't sit around wondering when and if he was going to show.
Professionalism: He was courteous, genial, and got right to work.
Knowledge: He immediately found the problem - a problem that someone from another company had missed - and fixed it in short order.
On another project at that same visit involving plumbing for a new shower, I needed an estimate and some advice; and I found that, when I asked a question, I got an answer. The guy knew what he was talking about.
I'll definitely call Dial One Richie's Plumbing to complete the shower project, and I'll definitely recommend them to others.
